  1. At least Mr T got to see fish. I went out on my own and came home with donuts. Then again I know from experience you are greedy Stewey
  2. I scored six of them at a garage sale about a year ago. I have three left. I troll them for flathead and have lost a couple to fish. If you don't tell anyone I also lost one with a miscast that put it in a tree. Dave
  3. My boat gets a bit of a wipe down after each trip but gets a full cleanout and gurney every nine months or so. I recently learnt that in order to land good flathead consistently you need to put the landing net back in after cleaning the boat. Its not always about attention to terminal tackle detail. Dave
  4. Fails to order a tow bar when sorting out a new work car.
  5. Going to give that a go. I clean mine up and the keep laid out damp on a few sheets of newspaper with another few on top. Seems OK for about about a week. Dave
  6. Click on the "Articles" tab up the top and pour over a couple of write ups from Slinky Dave
  7. I fished the Wonny for bream a few weeks back with nippers and all i got was a couple of undersized mullet. I went out the next morning armed with float, bread, nippers and breadcrumbs aiming for more mullet. I came home with six bream. Typical Dave
  8. Doesn't the swivel effect the way the jig falls? Dave
  9. No one mentioned Jimmy Buffet because he is terrible Paikea What about Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Fish Ina Dish. Not their best song but certainly their best fishing theme song. Dave
  10. Always good when you gets couple of 50 + models. Hopefully the jet skis go back to work cause I've got all of next week off. dave
  11. Tomorrow morning sea breeze is forecasting about 20 knots. The bureau is calling it about 8-10 knots and Windfinder is at 5 knots. Will be interesting to see who is right.
  12. The best laid plans of ................ The plan was to get out early for squid, pump some nippers and then burley up a few bream. The early bit was Ok but it went down hill from there. On the water before the sun and spent an hour jigging at one of my squid spots for zip. So I headed round to Salmon Haul Bay only to find the weed bed covered in boats. No problems. I turned around and drifted the Burraneer flats whilst waiting for the tide to come in enough to pump nippers. First run across the flats turned up a nice 53cm flatty. A couple more runs across the flats for two undersized flathead. Then the electric decided it wouldn't turn left anymore. So off I go to Maianbar. As I headed up to the nipper ground I tried to tilt my outboard up and it would lock in. Whilst I fiddled with it I drifted into the shallows and got semi-stuck. Idiot! Anyway finally got going again and then anchored the boat only to discover the nipper pump was still in the garage IDIOT! Bugger it I'm off to Warumbal anyway. Anchor up and pull out the the burly to check what I could use for bait. First out was an unidentified bit of fish gut, that went straight onto the hook and over the side. Next out was about a dozen stinky prawns. Once peeled they weren't too bad so one of them went overboard too. Then the rod with the gut doubled over with the drag whistling. After a couple of solid runs I started to turn it and bring it up. Halfway up it took off again. Finally I got a look at a King, undersized by the look of him, but as I leaned over my sunnies came off and went in the drink. Idiot! When he got a look at me though he shot through for another run and busted my 8lb trace at the hook. BUGGER! No more gut in the burly esky but for some reason there was a bit of skirt steak off cuts from a recent cook. Cut it up, whacked it onto a couple of 1/0 hooks and with a squirt of aniseed drop them over the side. Between the peeled prawns and the skirt steak I managed to catch 487 tiny reddies and 255 miniature tailor at three different spots on both sides of the entrance to the Arm. By this stage I'd had enough and decided to leave before the Easter Boofheads were out in any great number. Got to the ramp and there are three boats taking up all the space and I presumed the drivers were doing the hill climb back down from their cars. So I proceed to fillet the flathead in the boat and sliced a big chunk off the end of my thumb. Just another typical fishing day for me. Electric motor won't turn left, outboard won't stay tilted, sunnies are at the bottom of the Hacking, a piece of my thumb is rolling around the bottom of the boat, no bloody nippers and only one lousy (well not so lousy but you know what I mean) fish. Still you wouldn't be dead for quids. Dave
  13. Damn damn damn I've just been reminded I have something on that day so I have to be a cancellation
  14. I'm surprised this hasn't been on the site http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/international-court-of-justice-orders-japan-to-end-antarctic-whaling-20140401-35wb0.html Now maybe the greens can remove the scales from their eyes and go after the real issue- over fishing of Tuna in the Pacific Dave
  15. If you're lucky Lilli Pilly bathes may deliver kings Dave
  16. Bugger the soapys when you get a couple of 80cm flattys Dave
  17. Stick with that flat when the tide is running. There's a deep bit through the middle, go from there back to the northern end mid tide to the top and you will get some great flattys. Dave
  18. Robbie Farah and anyone wearing a Manly jumper Dave
  19. It usually doesn't take much to clear the Hacking out and there are a couple of decent sized tides tomorrow so it shouldn't be too bad. Dave
  20. Not sure I want to take burning torches to an oil spill
  21. I usually steer clear of politics on this site but as this has been debated here before I don't mind passing this on. It is an extract of an email sent out to ALP members fro Julie Collins the member for Franklin in Tas. If you are concerned about it contact the Federal Senators from your State and let them know Less than two years ago, Labor put a stop to the Supertrawler with a ban which turned it around before it had even starting trawling Australias oceans. In Tasmania, where the Supertrawler planned to do its worst, we were particularly relieved by the ban and I fought hard to see it delivered both for our local fishing industry and for the unique marine creatures in our oceans. Because of what's called a "sunset clause" in the legislation, it means we cannot stop future supertrawlers doing damage to the sustainability of our fisheries and our precious marine life. Thats why Labor is moving legislation to remove this sunset clause so new supertrawlers can be banned. Its being debated this week, but we dont yet know how the Coalition will vote. Can you call one of your States Liberal Senators and tell them you want the Liberals in the Senate to vote to protect our oceans and ensure our fisheries are sustainable? The public was clear it wanted the Supertrawler banned in 2012 and we need to see that kind of support again to make sure we can keep other supertrawlers out of our waters. Here are a few points on whats being debated: The legislation is being debated this week and is expected to be voted on this week We need the Liberals to support the ban to make sure new Supertrawlers cant come to Australian waters Local fishing operators and our precious marine life will suffer if new supertrawlers arrive before the scientific evidence is gathered Politicians do notice when their phones run hot on an issue and making a call can make a difference, so make sure the Liberal Government knows how you feel. We can stop more supertrawlers coming and we have a chance to do that today lets not miss it! Julie Collins Member for Franklin, Tasmania PS You can help protect our oceans and ensure our fisheries are sustainable, call your Liberal Senator today. Australian Labor Party Authorised by G. 23. Given that all of my boats have been tiller steer this has been a very interesting thread. I hope for your sake it all works out this weekend. Dave
  24. Rarely will a cable corrode in the middle of a length. 99.9% of the time it is some form of dodgy connection. The problem I have found when working on mine and couple of mates trailers is that some manufacturers join cables inside the trailer frame rather than at the fitting. If this is the case rip the whole lot out and do it again as too many joins means too many issues. Dave
