  1. 1. Yes a pilot hole is necessary. You can screw straight in but it takes a bit to get going. 2. I have been told that i should use a sealant called Lexel on the Poly but i have never found it anywhere. Sikaflex works fine though and goes on everything i screw into the hull. 3. Cant answer. The great thing with the Poly is when you move something and get left with screw holes you just put a bit of plastic swarf into the hole, warm it up with a heat gun and smooth it out. Dave
  2. From memory the atomic hearts that i grew a few years ago were rounder on the bottom. I lean towards the red ones being Atomic Top End.. And another vote for the green being Cayenne Dave
  3. The front of Lilli Pilli, back from Little Turriel bay, has had a couple. Drift along with the runout and just keep lifting your lure. Dave
  4. Forget Bonnet Bay go that little bit further and get to the hole in the wall at Sylvania Waters it will make your start a bit closer to the bay. Shoot straight over to La Perouse and have a dig for squid around Bare Island, yakkas in close to Molineaux Point or squid around the weed beds off silver beach. Then either anchor up near the end of Molineaux, around the drums (or in closer) at Kurnell or head back to Captain Cook and try and get a spot near one of the pilons. I've had reasonable success at all three recently. Dave
  5. Shimano. About bloody time. Nice job admin hopefully a big multinational can deliver as much to the site as the rest of the sponsors Dave
  6. That was hillarious. The young bloke full of energy and you with absolutely none.

Ditto from me. I'm on a couple of other forums on various topics and this one has been the easiest to use. The changes have made it even better. Nice job. Dave
  8. A phone call or a fishing session with Byron could go for hours without you being able to get a word in so when i spoke to him a bit before Christmas and the call was very brief i knew he wasnt travelling well. Rest In Peace Mate
  9. The regs also state A maximum of four rods or lines can be used by any one person at any one timeIt doesnt state "in possession". I couldnt find a definition of being used. All a bit confusing. Dave
  10. You will get whiting on poppers and a fair range of soft plastics. I have landed them when bait fishing on bread and small bits of flesh but I wouldn't call it regular. I have also caught a few when breaming with chicken breast but once again I wouldn't call it a "go to bait"

    BOAT RAMPS

First trailer first served its simple. Having said that i wouldnt use Grays Pt ramp on a weekend if you paid me. It seems to attract a lot of mugs. Dave
  12. Find the weed is deadset right. Anywhere from Jibbon and Bass and Flinders right down to Gymea will deliver squid in the kelp and weed beds at various times. When the water is a bit dirty head out the front but normally a bit of a search will turn them up. Dave
  13. Whilst i have fished a few times in the last few weeks i havent been out in my boat. I decided last week to give it a top to bottom clean. Everything came out including carpet, floor plate etc, plenty of soap and gurney was applied and the boat looked brand new. Even gave the trailer a lick of paint. Put everything back together and it sat there for a week whilst i exceeded the Christmas cheer. Took it out this morning, filled it with petrol and was at Water St ramp by about 5.40am. Whilst getting the boat ready i discovered that not only werent the bungs in but they werent even with the boat An hour long search of the garage and they were discovered hidden in a dark corner. Needless to say my mood wasnt good so i had breaky and went to sleep on the lounge. Tomorrow will be a better day. Dave
  14. It's simple - sharing knowledge. Other sites have simply been "brag boards" but the members here give out a reasonable amount of info. Whilst there are plenty of posts here that go:- went fishing, caught one this big, heres a photo. Sooner or later those members start to contribute a lot more info. The other thing i love about this site is the "No Crap" policy. Boofheads are soon weeded out and real contributors are encouraged. For this the owners and mods must be congratulated. The amount of members contributing (I'm guilty of failing in this regard recently) far outweighs most other sites. An example of this is Friday when the site was down i did a simple google search of "Port Hacking Fishing Reports", Fishraider came up with one from last week and the next nearest one was from March. Says it all really. Lastly if it wasnt for Stewey I wouldnt have a Polycraft and that was the best move i have made for many years. Dave
  15. Start by getting them into an esky. Most eskys are bigger than the bucket you are using plus they insulate them from the summer heat. You MUST change the water within the first 24 hrs. This is when they dump a lot of crap out and destroy your water clarity. An aerator is obvious as is constant changing of the water. If you dont have the chance to get fresh water every day then make sure you are at least cleaning it up a bit. NEVER feed them bread. They tend to float upside down after a couple of days of bread. There is a black serrated weed on sandy/mud flats that goes well as food but its a bit hard to find. Try Weetbix but give it to them sparingly. Strangely after years of keeping them in a white bucket or a white esky and watching their colour fade over a couple of days i have now found that putting them in a black bucket keeps their dark colour. Maybe they are part chameleon. Dave
  16. Yeh completely inedible. Not a bad live bait when smaller but they do make a great slab bait for Jew. Dave
  17. I would have thought the first response from a Govt department was a press release followed by electronic warnings. Not an ad-hoc posting at boat ramps
  18. Thanks for that. The crab bait has just gone back in the freezer
  19. There has been a rally organised for tomorrow to protest the proposal put forward to build two new runways from Kurnell out into Botany Bay. If anyone is interested it will be held at Bonna Park, near the boat ramp, at 9.30am. They have also asked that anyone with a boat turn up and simply anchor off the park as a show. So if you are having a fish in the Bay drop over about 9.30. Dave
  20. Gars are great Jew bait. Never tried them as a slab/strip bait but live they go off. Only problem is i like eating them better than Jew so invariably they end up at home rather than on a hook. Dave
  21. Between the expansion of the port and the installation of pipelines for the desal plant and the fuel tank farm poor old Botany Bay has been hammered in the last few years. Now the Member for Manly, who is also the State Treasurer, has decided that new runways at Kurnell will fix the Airport problems. http://www.theleader.com.au/story/956579/runways-plan-furore/?cs=1507 This will be nothing more thana disaster for the fishery. Dave
  22. The title says it all i suppose. I am thinking of getting a vacuum sealer unit and just want to know which models have flaws and which ones are the ones to go for. Thanks in advance Dave
  23. There is no doubt the majority of your electricity bill increase is due to a huge upgrade of the NSW network. This has come after years of neglect with Govt from both sides stripping money out of the distributors to prop up the State. One of the catalysts for the upgrades was about six years ago when the Union pointed out to the press that a large part of the CBD was blacked out following a substation blowing up when a cheap tarp covering it became torn and the sprinkler that was cooling it sprayed through the hole. OFarrell has already mooted taking the sale of distributors to the next election. As for the carbon tax the simple fact is it will work as an incentive to reduce emissions. If you can lower your electricity use you may be able to come out ahead after the tax cuts. If you are big business you are continually trying to reduce costs and this will give them a big push to move towards more energy efficient methods. One of the main reasons we haven't moved to renewables as quickly as other countries is that our coal costs are so low. Electricity generators will now spend more money on renewables as they will have be able to reduce their carbon output and therefore pay less carbon tax. There is no point saying we need to reduce emissions but we will trust business to do it themselves, they simply don't care. The two methods that have been implemented in a wide range of countries around the world are the Tax and a trading scheme. They are both very similar as the cost of carbon is charged to business just in different methods. The theory behind both of them though is that if business is charged a levy for the damage they cause they will find ways to reduce that cost and therefore reduce the damage. Dave
  24. Only managed two blacky sessions in the Woronora recently and both have been on the run in. The first resulted in four undersize and today was one keeper, two dropped (probably legal) and very few other downs. Is it just me or are the blackies few and far between at the moment? Dave
