  1. Maritime have been hanging around local ramps in the Shire lately asking if you have all the gear. They havent been there to hand out fines just give advice and see if everyone had all the right gear. I thought i had everything but turns out not. I had taken the torch out due to a flat battery and forgot to put it back (apparently you need it in the daytime). I had no sticker indicating where the lifejackets are. Although he did say that given it is a 4.1 poly I probably wouldnt get booked for that. The one i found odd, but probably should have known, is the maritime sticker i need that tells you how many people I can have in the boat. What i need to do is check the manufacturers plate for how many can be in the boat, put that number on the official sticker and then place the sticker directly in the line of site of the skipper. This happens to be right next to the manufacturers plate. The maritime bloke was handing out kits to everyone that contained all the appropriate stickers and the safe boating handbook. So they are on a bit of safety drive. Dave
  2. I would start with the socket on the landcruiser. Sometimes a simple spray with an electrical contact cleaner will give a better connection and make them work perfect. Dave
  3. This is kinda stealing your thread but it is still on topic at least. Does anyone know where they sell the Jarvis Walker Black Queen. I want a smaller blackfishing rod to use in the boat and i know they are cheap but having used one recently i was pretty happy with it. Unfortunately I cant find anywhere that sells them. Dave
  4. Nice post and a coupla good fish but damn good photos
  5. Couple of nice catches there Nutty. Are you digging the worms in the Wonni yourself? Dave
  6. You can get a similar effect with small sinker clips. They are a thin plastic piece in a T shape where the line runs through and a stainless clip hangs off the middle. Clip on those tear shaped sinkers that have a swivel in the end. They sell them at a number of places. The packers doom are much better though as the tear sinkers still roll around a bit. Dave
  7. Sounds like another cracking event that I have missed. Will you stop scheduling these things when i cant make it! Dave
  8. For the estuary it wont mean much this coming season but the last big dry certainly had an effect over time. By the end of the last El Nino there was certainly a dearth of fish. The big bream didnt seem to come into the Georges and mates complained about the same in the Hawkesbury and we struggled to get regular big autumn flatties. No rain No nutrients. Mind you I may have just had a bad year or so. Dave
  9. Dead as a post but they still go great guns. You can use a 1/0 and gently go from the top straight down through the end and then bring the point back out at the very edge of the head. This will keep them alive for a reasonable time but you will struggle to land flathead on that size hook. Goes fine for bream and whiting though Dave

    Squid on

I've managed a few of those little bottle squid around the bridge over the last few summers. Never specifically gone out to get them but when they follow a bait or a lure up I drop a small jig in. They seem to run in schools as the 3 or 4 times I've got them I have ended up with a few real quickly. They have always been about the size of your hand and make a cracking flathead bait. Dave
  11. Heheehehe Maybe you should get rid of the boat. I see lots of posts on here about "great catches" and plenty of them disappoint but that bream is a cracker. As for the gut full of shell one of the great pities of the oyster virus is that we dont have any in the Georges any more. We used to skulldrag bluenose bream off the top of the leases in Woolooware as they cracked oyster shells open. dave
  12. Is the inlet open? If it has closed up again i think you may struggle for the crabs. Dave
  13. Leave all your cabin lights off and take it easy. Around Sydney you get enough reflective light to see reasonably even on a new moon. At Tuross though might be a bit darker. Have you ever hit a dead body Fab? Dave
  14. Welcome to the site Sebastion Couple of nice flattys. Some of the best fishing i have had in the Bay is in the half hour before a decent southerly blows up. You need a bit of a balance between getting fish and getting a wet bum coming home and of course making sure the Southerly doesnt blow up too big and become dangerous. Dave
  15. The legislation being quoted relates to the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. The definition of Darling Harbour Area is 3 Definitions of Darling Harbour area and Pyrmont Bridge In this Part: "Darling Harbour area" means the following areas: "Pyrmont Bridge" includes:(a) the piles marking the channels approaching the Bridge, and( the abutments of the Bridge, and© the extension of the Bridge to Market Street and King Street, and(d) the Bicentennial Flagpole and its baseAs its the Foreshore authority this all relates to land based. Whilst Bob is right you wouldn't keep anything, there are some monster bream and further up in Walsh Bay (directly under the No Fishing Signs) are some of the biggest blackfish I've ever seen Dave
  16. Rock Cale for mine. Those frogfish have a much larger uglier head and taste a hell of a lot better Dave
  17. Both of those options at Lilli Pilli are fine. I've only fished it a few times shore based and that was ages ago but I've landed squid next to the baths, straight out from the baths and straight down the front of them. As for glow jigs yeh they work great in dark spots just take a torch with you to give the a recharge. Dave
  18. I'm flat out until April. I think my Poly will end up rusting. Maybe we could hunt some of those monster Easter flathead Dave
  19. Mickeys is the first one west of Alfords pt Bridge Not sure about Blackbutt but if its the one Stewey took me to a few years ago its on the Lugarno side just before Salt pan. Little Moon doesnt run anywhere near as much as the big one. You will get whiting and flathead in there. The best ive done there on the bream is a run up at night in tight to the mangroves. Dave
  20. I did alright for whiting a couple of weeks back on the sand flat at great moon bay using nippers. Dave
  21. Ssshhh. Thats a secret ramp that we dont want too many to know about Tell them all the Woronora ramp is better Dave
  22. Both my PB Flathead and Jewfish came from under the bridge and i have bagged out on bream. All at night Mind you theres been plenty of lean times in between Dave
  23. Pure soap is basically fat. I've never tried it for crabs but from time to time when the poddies wont trap i use a bit of shaved soap and it works OK. Dave

    Beer

    Reschs Nothing more to say
  25. We once had a monster blackfish fall out of the sky and land next to the boat whilst fishing the Shoalhaven. It had a claw marks in its back and was struggling to swim. Tasted great. Dave
