  1. NOW THATS A SQUID. Up the squiddlys!!!!
  2. Nice work Dale. We managed a few kings also on Saturday, tried to call out. Hope to be out there again soon!
  3. We only managed two, but there was a good sized school hanging around a bait ball on the sounder.
  4. Headed out this morning in search of a few squid to get a king this morning. we have 5 frozen ones and gave up on the chase after 20 minutes . So out came the frozen squid to be striped. Went to Molineux point and slow trolled for a little without much result. Headed over to the other side of the bay, where Dad, my brother and myself found ourselves tangled with the hooked fish. I never seen us dancing round the boat trying to untangle our catches. My brother lost his king and Dad and I managed these fish below. Unbelievable day. After that it seemed like the school under the boat we not interested in our baits anymore. Seemed wierd as we could sound them again, but then they dissapeared. Anyone found results like this where you loose one king and the school goes quiet all round?
  5. Even good fishing shirts are hard to find!
  6. Tap Tap Tap or Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz I would rather do that than stay at home. Great Stuff Dan and Greg. I willd be looking forward to more habour Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz next weekend I hope rain, hail or shine!
  7. SKUNGA!!!! Long time no reports!. Usuall haunt is landing the kings lately on the usual technique. Or should I call it unusual technique??? I don't know. Jews are from the same spot. Took Dad out and he managed three I got two and my brother one. We realsed what could go back and kept the dead ones in the photo. They really would not of survived if we put them back. I have too sounded the area and a little down channel to the left looks like where the larger ones are hanging out of late. Might spend a day working plaastics over these deeper edges of the hole and see what rattles! Squidboy
  8. Excellent Report!!! The truth in now out there and I won't have to watch the X-files movie to find oout. Should it be illegal to see things to catch 'hairtails' that don't exist? I could be up for a big claim that means!!!
  9. I completly understand your posts guys, but seriously, If we smash these spots like shark island and balls head there will be as many fish as what you would find in a swimming pool, none! I catch and release and keep one if I am lucky with the kings. I honestly do not need more than 1 fish a week or even a fortnight. I will try and take photos a bit better next time, but we generally catch, take the photo and then release them back to their homes where they came from without too much stress. For the people that want to give spot x away, its fine, the moment you do that, don't expect to ever fish it again in peace or catch them again.
  10. Roberta, You have to be the worlds best ever Black Fish catcher. Just want to say I love to see your catches and your successful trips. Squidboy
  11. Hit the Habour early this morning at Spot X. This spot has been firing up for at least three weeks now and barley fished from what I know (well I can't see boats around this place when I am at work). Usual baits taking the odd hoods around and my Dad scores himself his first for 2008. Not bad from a man who only beliveives in PRAWNS as bait! We had a big missed on a large FK (greater than 1 metre) but we should be back to tackle him soon again. Big baits took the fish today and it was a splendid day on the water. Have any raiders found spots where kings are all year yet? I hope this spot produces in summer cause it will be game on if these hoods hang around. Spot was blacked out to conserve the fish. Catch and release for us lately for the kings. Jews were caught on Monday night with my new 3500 bait runner. We have not missed a fish yet on this reel. However these smaller fish were kept for the table. Great with all these little winds at the moment, I hope it keeps up like this, this summer. These are perfect fishing conditions for people who brave a little cold before the sun is up. Got to be in it to win it! Enjoy
  12. I work in an office which has no window!!! Then I walk around the building and see the entire Harbour. Such a tease when I want to be on the water and not at work. I tell you, I gotta thank the Pope for last Friday, it was a great start to the weekend!
  13. Welcome to Fish Raider. Look forward to reading your posts and how you beat your dad. Squidboy
  14. Dale!!!! Mate, the kings caught at spot x right now seem to be quite well rounded. Also when I gutted the last king I even noticed he was full of food but still hit the plastic. Seems pretty good for us fishos! Still can't belive it is winter and we are scoring kings like we are. Looks like the harbour is really shapping up!
  15. Got to have a line in the water to win. The wind picked up late in the arvo, but I was surprised we didn't see each others at the wedding cake. Good luck for next time! Tight Lines Squidboy
  16. I rang the pope in the morning to see if it was ok. All passes with the call and the weather was put on too. Honda is a great motor, quite, fuel efficient and first start starter!. I'll be back into the kings hopefully next weekend again. Time to get into the squiddlys for the summer
  17. Headed out at a very late 7:45am Friday morning and tried the habour for the odd winter King. Action was very slow with my dad dropping two fish whilst I was driving the boat. I decided to get up and give it a go and after about 10 minutes I pulled up the specimen pictured down below. Pretty beautiful back ground for the photo moment, but it feels fantastic that some people were probably at work in the city who could watch me having the time of my life on the water. Enjoy Fishraiders and I will be surely back in the harbour to hook up a few more. We dropped two other fish, but one was enough to take home for the day. All round a very nice day on the water and very little boat traffic which added to a great day. Tight lines!!!
  18. Head out last night at 8pm to the harbour in search for a jew with my new bait runner. Never used one before and I must say they are absolutly MAGIC on jews. Anyway, put the squids out and one of the rods had that magical sing to it. My brother picks up the rod, clicks over to the strike drag and he was on. After a short but eventful fight, he finally landed a jew at 72cm. Few hi fives and we settled again. Not much for the rest of the night, but three hooks pulled straight out of potential jews going for their runs. Pretty weird to hook up so many fish during a change of tide. Tight lines Fishraiders, pictures to come.
  19. Steve, All I got to say is Mate, You saw me getting dusted a few weeks ago. But when I get my boat back, I have stepped up a couple of LB's to get those bigger kings on board. Hope to catch up soon, and Dale I will be tieing another dozen flies this week whilst I am away with work. Squidboy
  20. Thanks everyone. It took about 15 minutes for the first hook-up (pictured) and I thought she had the weed until the fish darted sideways across the water. Looks like the fish finally woke up to what was happening. Great Day anyways
  21. Hi Raiders, Dropping sun, Dropping tide, two soft plastics and two rods. We headed down to the harbour to try and catch a lizard. Girlfriend was the first to pull up one and it is her first flathead. Enjoy raiders Very proud of her, and I bet she will be wanting to get out there and do this again.
  22. Heard of all those spots, but to be honest, without a boat, your not going to get your quota unless its every blue moon. You really hve to work for squid over the winter. They will not be in big schools, but they will be bigger ones. try around Cliffton, Spit as well as Good old Balmoral. Mind you when fishing places like the spit aviod the four hundred raiders flying around in petrol motors. Stick with a quiet electric and spots with light and darkness. Squid normally hide in the dark and attack something when it comes to light. Once again, don't expect to bag out on the one spot, keep moving!!! This also will give some grounds a break from over fishing. Anyway, if anyone can help me on some good Jew advice, I will be able to give plenty of squidding tips too, to land them or even provide a couple to go for a jew session. Still interested in finding different spots and different techniques. Squidboy
  23. Mate, Their aint too many secrets down there. But let me remind you, BIG jigs, at least a 3.0g and must be right on the bottom. Try the end of the container wall as well as the beach area. Followed by the island, you cant go wrong, but you can loose jigs. Tight lines, maybe you will see me out there one day.
  24. Great Work there Squid Hunter. Welcome to Fish raider and I hope you catch lots of squid down here too! mate, the Harbour is a wonderful place and so is botany when you get a chance to wonder south a little further. Winter time is a time for the larger ones and depending on the rain will depend which location you will find them Once again, welcome and its great to see Squid Hunters on fishraider! Its an art
  25. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments in response to my post. I put it up on the fish of the month, hopefully I can win that and make it a really remarkable personal best. Jew was caught on a squid stripe and I had my reel on free spool. I felt the big gulp and gave the fish about 2/3m of run before I set the hook. I never had my Trinidad running so hard before with the 80LB braid on song. A real experience to see my reel work for a fish for a change and especially on a Jew. Hope to be back up there sometime next year to do it all again. Also, it was on the change of the tide. Regards Squidboy
