  1. Great part of the world you've got there Neil love the river shots. Only time I've seen the bidgee was a few months ago on a work trip to Griffith for then bidgee irrigation authority. Can understand why the release would affect more than rain out your way! Managed to throw a few spinnerbaits round at the Goldie weir but never had a chance haha. Would love to give it another Crack soon the river is so different to my east coast estuaries. Hope it picks up for you mate that's a stunning looking trout cod too!
  2. All good mate I'm 6 3 and a buck fifteen I went through the same process haha
  3. Great idea! Keen to get out amongst it. I'm on my Outback nearly every weekend at the moment
  4. Awesome work mate! Got my first from the yak a week ago and it's definitely the best fight in it I've had! You won't stop grinning for a while yet. Keep it coming!
  5. Hey mate. Should definitely be a few around that'll suit you. Generally the pure fresh fishers like the smaller yaks for maneuverability but at 6 10 might be a squeeze [emoji14] have a look at some of the American brands like Jackson they do a lot of larger yaks suited to big blokes. Their weight capacity is easily within the limits and they use em for bass fishing over there. 2nd hand one would be easy in your budget
  6. Very nice mate, I love researching spots and scoping then out. Then the adventure begins and if you've done it right you strike gold! Cracker work keep it up
  7. I started off with a 4m paddle yak, excellent for stability etc but upgraded to the hobie 2015 outback. The style of fishing I do really demands hands free. I know alot of the kayak guys prefer sleeker lower centre of gravity paddle yaks for anything resembling offshore, and having taken my outback around middle head etc I know why. The prowler are a great yak for this sort of work and won't break the bank. But Stealth have a great reputation for dedicated offshore machines. Interested that Big Rod takes his PA out, I'd heard of people having issues with swell but apparently not! Can't beat Hobie for quality. But it comes at a price
  8. Yup I'm the same. Dominant hand does the casting and lure control / fights the fish (right hand) and left just winds her in. Been called weird but I think it's more weird for someone to cast with their right then have to swap the rod to their left hand.... Also works perfectly with my hobie as the rudder control is on the left so I can change course mid fight without changing rod hands. "Goofy" supremacy
  9. Awesome report mate! Keen yak fisher myself and I can completely put myself in your shoes imagining the scramble with 2 rods and unhelpful fish [emoji14] Cracker whiting and some good flatties well done! Witha
  10. You guys launch at Clontarf Reserve? Might have seen you there me and a few mates went out in the Hobies too. Harsh day for us found the fish on the sounders but couldn't get a solid set on the micro jigs or plastics. Ended up peddling all the way round middle head and back for only a couple of missed strikes and sergeant bakers! Let me know if you're heading out again always keen
  11. Mate I've done a couple of them now and internal mounts are the way to go for me. Definitely avoid punching holes in the yak if you can. All the silicone / waterproofing in the world can still have issues. Temp readings aren't quite as accurate but as stated above its usually not far off. No effect on the down view on either of mine as long as you get the silicone well air bubble free (warming it up first has been key) Use grommets for the wiring and just make sure you can remove battery easily, no harm when washing as you just let it dry out properly after. Haven't used waterproofing on the connection yet but thinking about it as a mate has terminal connection issues with his battery due to corrosion.
  12. Sure it's the drag slipping not the line spinning on the spool? Had that happen to me before
  13. Keen, just depends on dates? Silly season leaves much to be desired in fishing time
  14. Hey mate, few options but depends on age / fitness / size and budget? The 300 odd dollar flea bay ones are a good bet for starting out, after that you jump in price to the 600 or so dollar equivalent. Theyre quite a bit bigger but very stable and they have a rudder which makes tracking and turning much easier especially in the current on the georges. After that it jumps up to about a grand.
  15. Haha I can vouch for that tide ripping through. What a nightmare of a paddle back! Wind and tide...Good luck lads might get a chance to join you
  16. Awesome work mate! Believe me it gets ridiculously addictive! When I'm on the kayak I usually have 3 rods: 2 bream rods with different lures and a heavy rod. Gives you nice variety Looks like you've tied braid straight to lure? Usually I'd say give fluro leader a crack but it seems you've won without it!
  17. Awesome mate good on you for getting him out. Shame about the kings being fickle buggers. There's always tomorrow! Well done on the feed
  18. Haha mate the nature of the Cooks! I remember when I first put 10lb white Powerpro on and started flicking the cooks I very shortly had a new brown variant of Powerpro
  19. Drifting round for a nice day in the sun with the mrs and a few fish too? Livin the dream Scratch well done mate
  20. Awesome report mate. Love estuary perch they can be dirty fighters! Great size there and nice bream too. Keep it coming!
  21. G'day raiders, So I've been tasked with planning my mates bucks, and he's just caught the fishing bug and the new in laws are keen fisherman. Before the usual nocturnal festivities I'm hoping to get them out on a charter for kings or similar. Roughly about 5-10 people (they suck at confirming) Any advice on good groups to go with would be greatly appreciated. If they're not a raider affiliate please chuck it in a pm only thanks. Cheers! Witha
  22. That vid is the bomb I follow his method if 1.5 or 2cm wrap, so that can equal about 30 turns in the really light line. Can go down to 15 or 20 in really heavy kit. Never had one slip on me
  23. Great report mate smiles all round!
  24. On the detergent and sand front your best bet is a service. Worst case scenario you have sand in or near the engine room and bearings, and the detergent has buggered the oil and grease. DIY is a bit of fun and Sahara aren't that hard to service as they're on the lower end of shimano kit. If you're not confident honestly shimano charged me 20 bucks for a service on a dunked sustain...could be worth a shot
