  1. Well was going to have a solid kayak session on Sunday to test my new sounder install but looks like I'll be stuck in the bloody office ....should be illegal. Will make do with a landbased session in the parra for bream etc
  2. The devastating impact they have had on our waterways is enough for me to have no qualms about dispatching them. Heading out west you see huge amounts in areas that would previously have been prime native fisheries but the way they destroy water clarity and mess up ecosystems is staggering. They are a pest, use em for fertilizer they work a treat!
  3. Haha that glorious smell will hopefully hold you for a bit [emoji14]
  4. Nice mate old faithful rozelle providing sustenance to the addiction I'd definitely say luderick mate caught a big one on a plastic at the same spot and they fight really dirty as you say. Keep it up!
  5. Nice man! Good to see you back into the silver haha luckily you still got a happy snap! Healthy release I guess [emoji14] keep it up
  6. Haha mate I'm counting it! Figured I saw the down, didn't strike like I was trying to tear it's head off (again) and we only lost it due to...technical difficulties. Your persistence teaching me the ropes is much appreciated mate and it was a great way to spend the arvo! Hopefully it will clear up and we can grab some more Witha
  7. Awesome work! That's great angling on the light gear lads. Would have been smoking drags after the runs!
  8. Not the best time to start unfortunately mate, closed season starts soon , best bet is to leave them be till it reopens later in the year. From the very limited experience I've had with them, the general consensus is slightly heavier bream gear, say 10lb leader or so and a rod that can muscle them out of structure. Top water lures are a great option, and I had success on a zman grub rigged up with a jig spin. Anything flashy and noisy turns them on Good luck, hopefully one of the bass junkies will give you more advice
  9. Haha excellent man! Glad it went to a good home lol
  10. Haha hadn't quite anticipated THIS much rain mate!

    Lure sale...

There was a sale today. Suddenly I found a hole in my rod quiver that needed filling. Because I definitely need another 9 foot landbased spin rod. Of course I do [emoji14] I had my greatest achievement to date though. Walked past the hard bodies section. Those little buggers are my bane. Now that the gf has decided she likes fishing she doesn't question as much when my rod rack gets a new member haha
  12. That was going to be my theory too, find the holes or outlets of rivers and give it a Crack. No jew expert but the theory suggests they will be much further down. Parra and harbour being so large you'd find them wherever it seems to meet clearer water or where the flush finishes
  13. G'day mate, used to be local up there and there's definitely plenty of options! Estuary wise I always loved drifting down the river into Queens Lake, we usually ran a simple running sinker rig with fresh live beach worms (caught at pilot beach or they have them at the dunbogan boat shed) great for your standard estuary species. The river has sanded up a fair bit and the current can rage, with all this rain try and find the areas out of the main current, plenty of flatties on the edge of sand bars and banks all the way down sting ray creek. If it's still wet and muddy could try some big baits or plastics off the end of the breakwall for a flood jew (never tried but the river can get pretty shagged by flooding rain) just hope there's no more pesky catfish haha
  14. Sounds like a bloody good way to spend a wet birthday mate. Hope it was great! Many happy returns
  15. Of those I'd definitely pick the aernos mate
  16. The one time I've been out the sash weights seemed perfect, but apparently they're harder to come by these days? Other method was concrete in pvc pipe I think.
  17. That's awesome mate! What a report So many firsts and great catches. Good on you saltwater dog for having him on and well done Adam! Nice flatty there too Salt! Keep it up guys! Witha
  18. Haha all good mate. Cooks is pretty toxic!Let me know if you're heading down again might have a chance to meet up
  19. Very nice mate gotta love a cheeky arvo session. Thats about standard cooks size bream and you're right you can do it all day! Just never eat anything haha Keep it up!
  20. I'm trying Donna I am! I'll use COTM as more leverage she's started talking about wanting more kit [emoji14] Thanks mate she caught me dinner yesterday so she's full of bragging rights and keen for more!Witha is my nickname mate but your interpretation applies these days! Hey mate furthest I've really ventured is the illawarra rd bridge and a bit past near the golf course, looking to get further up as I reckon there's definitely potential for bream up that way, Tempe can be hit and miss for me too
  21. Ayyy! Nice one Doc! Cracker fish there Stewy providing quality banter throughout the day no doubt. Keep it up lads lovely looking specimen! Yet to find my ghost in that system but you've inspired me to keep plugging away!
  22. Also this was north bank, but the whole cycle way from illawarra to the rowing club has potential
  23. Thanks mate Yeah only bonus I can see on the night shift is an arvo fish haha gotta make the most of it! Cheers mate she's coming along leaps and bounds To the best of my knowledge yes, did the Google search before choosing to keep them and that's the match. She's a great fishing companion mate cheers give it a shot it's a beautiful waterway! Bit different to the cooks haha We went at the end of run in to start of run out, seemed the run in towards the high was the best bet with most action mate! Yeah i have a suspicion they move in from the bay. However surprisingly alot of my bream from the cooks come up silver and clean, water clarify isn't too bad it's what's in the mud that will getcha Hopefully get stuck into the blackies soon mate I'd sat they're fairly white, pink flesh with a blood line like Sambos. Not tuna red or even close mate Haha the girth on it suggests you're right! Thanks mate Cheers man always good to get results when she's around keeps her interested! Haha thanks mate I try to do my little part. They fought really well on the light gear, my jew stick made it a bit less of a contest but on your combo they would be a heap of fun!
  24. Could call up the blokes in Taren Point I got mine off, they do spares for the Chinese range I think, pm me
  25. G'day raiders! First part is a bit of a delayed report for Easter (working nights is a killer) Decided to head down to the hacking with my now very competent girlfriend and see if we could rustle up a feed for once! Hit gymea baths with quite a few other people about, and after no luck on sending squid baits to the bottom saw a couple of young guys cleaning up on watsons leaping bonito on the other side of the jetty. We quickly made the move and started throwing lures out, the young blokes were more than happy for us to have a Crack as they'd almost filled a keeper net. Unfortunately the fish didn't feel like playing ball so we changed tactics and threw down unweighted pillie cubes and let them waft. The next half hour was a heap of fun! The Mrs hooked up first, on the little 2 kilo rod! She played it like a pro and after a really good tussle up came her first pelagic! Tight structure and light line and she managed it so well! That smile says it all. And mine was even bigger! Soon after it was my turn, landing two and losing one to a pulled hook on my 10lb outfit. My first bonito too so you can imagine how stoked I was! They're a heap of fun and so damn pretty. Ended up taking two for a feed and they actually cooked up really well! Despite what I've heard to the contrary. Asian style with lime chilli and soy. After a few weeks of night shift buggering my body clock up managed to get down to the Cooks this arvo for a quick session with the gf before work. The river really felt alive tonight with heaps of action! First cast I was onto a solid trev which put up a heap of fight as they do. Kept slugging it out deep with its side into the current. Heaps of fun on 6 lb and glad they're back for the winter! Hooked another two and one that felt huge but managed to chop my jighead off Also managed this awesome bream coming in at 37 cm on the zman grubs! Biggest I've found in the cooks recently and called it for a trev by the fight! Also had one of my most surprising experiences on the cooks to date. My girlfriend spotted a prawn in the water...I thought yeah ok someone's dropped their bait...until she scooped it up in the net and showed it to me live and wriggling! Never thought the cooks would be healthy enough to sustain them so glad to see the river improving. She then chucked it on her jighead, sent it out...and reeled back in a bream. I'm a very very lucky man. Textbook fishing Thanks for reading guys hope you don't mind the long posts. Hoping to get out again soon! Cheers Witha
