  1. I cant speak for that location specifically, but my biggest flattys and good bream and whitting have come from water less than 3 meters deep. if the shallows have bait fish, nipper beds or you see the odd fleeing prawn/shrimp then they are definantly worth a go. Also if there is a good drop off I am guessing the kings, salmon or tailor would not be far away.
  2. On another note, has any one here ever eaten a slimmy before. a pommy workmate recons a very similar fish is very popular in Europe.
  3. Would it be worth putting a big banana prawn on a squid spike.
  4. Good one, Can u imagine being a bait fish with that "thing" swimming around. And good effort, that second photo actually made me dissy. (upside down miss Jane)
  5. Mate, it is an interesting one. Like why marlin bight on a tide change in 500 meters of water 20 kms to sea. There is a thought that Bass for example like the consistent high barometer, but they can go absolutely mad just as the barometer drops aswell, I presume instinct tells them rain is on the way and they had better feed before the water turns to mud. I also wonder if in fact the consistent high barometer also correlates to a rise in water temp, as a drop in water temp is a sure way to see the end to a hot bight. I am not sure how much the barometer affects other species.

    Tides?

Glad I made some sense, I had a couple of bourbons and wasn't sure if my thoughts matched my typing. Today would be another example. Up the hawksbury there will probably be no run in tide due to the amount of fresh coming down. The water level may rise due to the push back from the run in tide down river but up river continue to run out. The variance between two tides on a particular day, say the first low of 1 meter and the second of 1.2 meters is usually dependant on wether the moon and sun are working together or opposing each other as both play a role in the tides.

    Tides?

There are a lot of factors. a big swell can push water back up a river long before the run in tide begins. In some areas dense salt water can push up a river down deep while less saline water is still running out higher up in the water column. Depending on how far up river you are or in which system you are in can have tide changes at very different times to a tide chart. you need to figure out how far before or after tide changes occur at the refrence spot on the chart. ie the high tide at Gladesville may be consistently 1 hour later than Fort Denison.
  8. Top stuff, You took a knife to a gun fight and still won. Yeeahaaa.

    Fuel venting

Plastic or metal doesn't matter. Fuel will expand and contract regardless, sucking in moisture particularly in an under floor situation when it cools and venting flammable/explosive fumes when it heats up. Testlab is all over it. The tank would be better off back at the motor. For mine, if I had that sot of space under my floor I would be putting in another purpose built tank as Testlab described as a back up or fitting a kill tank. I believe it was in southern queensland recently where boat owner and worker were seriously burnt by a fire/explosion when working on a fuell tank. Small chance of something going wrong but if it does people will get hurt.
  10. Nice effort. do you use weed or cabbage. I have had difficulty finding weed(that is the bait type) in Sydney.
  11. Good one, didn't see that coming. Now we will wait for some fishing reports from you Brendon. Good luck and enjoy your near new motor.
  12. I have been told by a ranger in darling harbour that fishing is definantly not allowed. At the time I was watching a couple of kilo plus bream mooching around in front of me when a couple of fish I can only guess were frigates scream through the shallows so fast I only saw the shadow and a pressure wave for a second or two. as far as the piers jews, kings and a host of other species are all legit targets.
  13. Nice one Yowie, I spent the day on a roof at Richmond. I am jealous as. top day top location. And a good feed.
  14. Thanks guys, persistence it is then. Will try the s factor as well.
  15. Yes they can be frustrating. Many years ago fishing "the Banks" down the coast in a markham whaler we had 10 to 15 10kg kingies decide the best place to spend the morning was hard up between the twin hulls of our boat. They would come out and headbutt our livies but could not get a serious reaction out of them. After a hour or so we gave up and began bottom bashing. They would charge out and harass our hooked fish but could not get a bite. On another more recent trip of Sydney we were throwing plastics at rats, my every effort with different retrieves and plastics drew nill. My beginner mate however was braining them just dead sticking his SPs. I began casting lightly weighted flickbaits and just let them sink for two hits straight up before the school decided they had some where else to be. Just when you think you have tried everything, try some thing else.
  16. Hi guys, recently I have been throwing a few vibes around at night for a jew. So far no good. I figured they work in dirty water, why not at night? Am I barking up the wrong tree or should I persist. Any thoughts.
  17. Good report, good fish and good feed. GOOD ONE.
  18. Now I know why our NEW Australian brothers and sisters are soo keen on keeping a few yakkas for a feed. Top story, thanks for sharing.
  19. Fishing for blackies with my grandad in the shoalhaven taught me that fishing a foot too high in the water column or having weight too close to your weed bait ment far fewer takes. I am not sure if they are more aggressive of the rocks or not. One way to find out though. And keep up thinking outside the box.
  20. Squid strips are a top bait, low resistance and eaten by most fish, even whitting.
  21. Lucky bastard, 10 mins from a boat ramp. I am 45 mins through Sydney traffic to my nearest, Good to see you are making the most of it. When my olds had a boat ramp next door some of our best trips were unplanned 1 hour sessions when the wind dropped or it just looked right. I am very jealous.
  22. Yes Link. one fish had a hook through the eye and bleeding from the gills. I bled it put it on ice, skinned and boned, red meat cut out and beer battered. salt and lemon. far from the worst feed ive had.
  23. the kids catch plenty around wharfs fishing with peeled prawns. little buggers have a good croak too.
  24. That guy is soo lucky to have all his fingers, It reminds me of family barbeques with our border collie around.
