  1. Thanks guys. I can remember getting help when I was young. It made me a better fisherman. I'm still getting help from Fishraider. JD, I don't know anything about obsessive compulsive, must have behaviour....hahahahah
  2. Hi Raiders, It's been a bit quiet in the upper harbour lately, still getting a few but nothing worth noting. The theory was that the fish have moved downstream. Today that theory proved to be right. It was never going to be an early start for me, so it had to be a solo mission. My wife has me committed to making cupcakes for an RSPCA fundraiser. I as allowed out for a few hours this afternoon. I took up my position around 1pm, the tide was on the way out. The downs began from the second drift and continued pretty consistently for the next few hours. I'm happy to say I'm not using braid anymore, still pulling a few hooks, but nothing like a few weeks ago. I had a few in the bag when some young fishos took an interest. I put one on my setup, and converted the others spin setup with the help of a clip on float. Happy to say they each got a decent fish. I kept fishing and added a few more to the bag. The largest going 43 cm. One of the young fellas went 35 but the average was around 30 cm. I took 3 for dinner, and gave the rest to the boys to take home for tea. Some new Fishraiders in the making. No fishing tomorrow, I'm icing 6 dozen cupcakes. Ryder
  3. Yes, I do own a few rods, each has a purpose. Yes, I do own a few reels, again, they have their purpose. I find rods, repair rods and reels and give them away. This kind of thing goes on constantly amongst Fishraiders. I know some collectors and introduced other Raiders to them. It interests me... but Im more Use it or Lose it. So, I've made a few good scores recently, the Alvey made Image reel. Made for the British market. The Hank Newman rod And the book Sydneys' Top Fishing Spots. Last week I found another, later edition. Highly sort after, and promised to a good mate and Raider. My dilemma, If I give it to him I'll only have one!! Hmmmmm??? Just Kidding its yours Trevor.
  4. Great fish mate. School holidays, snapper off the rocks, hairtail social.... Living the dream. Well done.
  5. I received this email today from http://www.stopthetrawler.net/ Andrew -- We targeted four of the biggest supporters of the super trawler this election – and they all got booted out! That’s a massive win for our alliance. It shows all politicians that if they abandon their community and allow massive corporations to plunder Australia’s oceans, then we will vote them out. Monster trawler supporters who lost their seats on Saturday include Peter Hendy in Eden-Monaro, Andrew Nikolic in Bass, Eric Hutchinson in Lyons and Brett Whiteley in Braddon. Compare this to the results for politicians who actually stood up for their people and against the super trawler, and kept their seat; politicians like the Liberal’s Sarah Henderson in Victoria, Tasmanian Independent Andrew Wilkie and Labor’s Julie Collins. Click here to like and share this post on Facebook! It's pinned to the top of our page - please share it to let all politicians know what happens when they sell out our oceans and regional communities. We still need to get whoever forms government to put in place a full super trawler ban. We have a commitment from Labor to do this, but nothing from Malcolm Turnbull, who has been shifty and evasive at every turn. But for now, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of you who signed petitions, shared our updates on facebook, wrote to your members of parliament, or organised events in your town – this is your win. Now, any politician with half a brain will think twice before doing over their people and supporting monster trawlers that threaten our regional communities, kill our protected marine animals and steal our bait fish. Respect and thanks to all of you, Bec, Ginny, Laura and the Stop the Trawler crew. P.s. All FOUR of the key super trawler supporters we targeted lost their seat on saturday. Please share the message on Facebook so that all politicians hear that when they don't stand up to super trawlers, they lose. -=-=- Environment Tasmania · Level 1 100 Elizabeth St, Hobart, TAS 7000, Australia This email was sent to jackandrew@aapt.net.au. 6. Neil, mate I blame the braid, there is no stretch. But then again I stil have a bit of stink on me. Things don't go quite to plan. I switched to braid because I am using an Alvey Blackfish reel and the side cast option. The mono line just gets twisted. Steve, I'm looking for the nitlon, haven't found it available. The Dango option is gone, and Sunline float line sinks, go figure. Trevor, crab night goes very late, I wasn't sure I'd make it today, Andy didn't. Haha I didn't start until 1pm, and it was racing within an hour. It was really a reconnaissance mission after our chat last week. And yes, the fish are there.
  7. We caught up with old friends Sonya and Andy last night for dinner. Chilli Mud Crab, yummo. Sonia's Dad, John, has a nice waterfront that I have fished in the past for some great bags. It must be over a year since I tried it, and today it proved it still fishes very well. The action started from the second drift. I got a good down, and busted off on what felt like a solid fish. Next drift, I pulled the hooks on another good fish. Then I landed one just legal, and pulled the hooks on a few more. The downs kept coming, and I did land the odd fish in between screwing up. Rather than counting the fish, I was counting the misses. At least a dozen bust offs or pulled hooks. I left them biting after 2 hours, with 5 in the bag and 1 throwback. There were some big fish, the largest 2 would have been mid 40s, no pic my phone died. I kept 3 for the table I have to get rid of this braid. The Hank Newman performing well.
  8. Nice mix. Goes to show the flathead don't completely shut down in winter. Bad luck about the rod.

    Bloody potholes

Thanks for sharing, I always read your posts. I learn a lot Proactive. Keep them coming.
  10. Hi Raiders, Some of you may know I just became the proud owner of a vintage Hank Newman blackfish rod. Early this morning I introduced it to my usual partners in crime, Trevor and Royce. Trevor: Oh it's light, Oh yeah it's good. Royce: It's an early Snyder 2 wrap BF144. Both Godfathers agree it is a beauty. It wasn't long before I hooked a fish, and it was big. It must have been on for over 2 minutes, but it wouldn't tire. We had a good look at it, and recon it was around 45 cm. Alas the hook pulled just out of reach of the net. Thing went quiet, and time was running out. I had other obligations. Half an hour to go, after a long drift, my float went down. I waited, waited then loaded up on another good size fish. I didn't want to make a mistake on this one. Trevor manned the net, I gave myself some room, and played the fish out til the end. Netted and on the deck, the ceremony was over. A 43cm fat fish I love this rod.
  11. J Miscas, Dinosaur jr is a semi regular on Rock wiz. Otherwise I wouldn't think it. Maybe the genre feel. 2nd, great post Mrs. Got the old brain ticking.

  13. It was a great weekend compared to last. Nice going on the sambos. Keep going on th plastics, you would be surprised. Kings busting up on the sea walls.
  14. Cheers guys. My foul ups make it more entertaining. Haha I have to pass up the braid and go back to mono and learn to cast. That Nitlon you recommend Steve, seems worth a try. Big Neil, the new rod is a vintage Hank Newman. It looks to me late 70s Snyder blank. I have to take it to the Boss for authentication.
  15. Great video. I love the canoe, down rapids and dragged over snags. Way to go.
  16. After a couple of weeks of no fishing, and a couple of weeks fishing for no fish, this long weekend was a welcome drought breaker. With our success on Saturday and Sunday, Trevor and I decided it was worth another go this holiday Monday. I got the first down, had the fish on, only to pull the hook. That was the start. Trevor put 3 in the bag before I pulled the hooks another. Admittedly the fish were a bit touchy, not many distinct downs, but I wasn't doing well. I had that feeling like I was going to donut. We got a few under size, then finally I got a keeper, 27cm in the bag. Trevor kept adding to the bag with decent fat fish and I kept pulling hooks. At one stage he said 'You must have pulled the hook on 6 fish' then POP, make that 7, then 8. A wind knot appeared in my leader, I thought 'Stuff it' , next down I busted off right on the knot. I did finally straighten myself out and start getting a few, by then Trevor had his bag limit so we called it. 15 in the bag all released to fight another day. Maybe I will do better next week with my new rod. Haha

    Past two days.

I thought I would surprise you, turning up late. I was lucky you were still there. My Hank Patterson calls ' Monkey Fist,' 'Ham Bone' didn't work. You still fished the @&x: out of me.
  18. Fantastic report Adam. I had to recharge my iPad. Haha Roamin in the gloaming on the bonny banks....... I want my rod back.!!
  19. WOW!!!! Action packed day. I so need to go.
  20. Nice going Royce. Good luck with the trout.
  21. That looks great Steve, money well spent. Built with your own hands, it's priceless.
  22. They certainly have been tough lately. Glad you found the fish mate. I don't think I've seen the rod on the left before?
  23. Nice going, great to have the missus enjoying fishing. Glad it went better than me and mines first Blackfish trip. Well done.
  24. Broome?.. On business? Living the dream.
  25. Well done Norm. You're an inspiration, getting out there and trying new techniques and with good company. Fishraider at work.
