Jarvis Walker Black Queen Deluxe is the first that jumps to mind. Solid glass, cork grips, they have been making them for decades.
  2. Hi Raiders I went out today for a shot at Blackfish around Balmain. On the first drift I got a good down but didn't hook up. Next few drifts I was getting touches but no real takers. Then they were stripping the hook with no movement of the float. I thought small fish or maybe Black Trevally. I tried different depths, smaller baits and finally pulled up tight onto one. It went a good 6 inches long.p
  3. I think Kingie Chaser and Green Hornet have made good points. Tide is also a big influence on Blackfish, as Useless Fisho just reported about a new spot he fished. Some places fire on a run in others on the run out or part of. I had similar experience to yours, got my first quickly and thought this is going to be good, I didn't realise my float stopper moved during the fight. I went fishless for a good spell. They can also spook by Cormorants or other species like grouper or kings.
  4. A new location is always a bit of a challenge. Sounds like you've got this one worked out. Nice to have another option up your sleeve. Cheers

    Big neil

So sorry mate. My thoughts are with you and your family. God Bless.
  6. It's really hard to pick a single day. The day I caught my first Blackfish was an early start, I got the last parking spot in the street. Got back to the car a few hours later, I got a $500+ fine for parking in Disabled. I learned a lot that day.
  7. Same as KB and Green Hornet, Blackfish. I like the challenge, the gear, the tradition and the rouges gallery of characters I've met along the way.
  8. It took a bit of Googlising, but it could be The Three Stooges. Kate Upton in a Nunkini, I'm not sure.
  9. Hi Neil I'm glad you got out to commune with nature and pursue the passion. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns next time, he probably enjoyed the experience too, and if like a Magpie he might recognise his mate. I have heard of them opening backpacks and ripping into bags of chips. I've seen them surgically remove the eyes of blackfish in a shallow keeper net.
  10. Thanks Donna. I hadn't heard of that one either, might have to watch it. Cheers
  11. Dear Donna, Please put us out of this misery. What is No.3 ?
  12. Bingo Scotty Maybe schooling up to run. They were big too.
  13. Hi Raiders, I saw this school move through Little Manly from an elevated position. Can you guess what they are?
  14. To build it up into a Blackfish rod you'd be looking at around $80-$100. So I would say the blank is worth $60, sight unseen.
  15. Nice find. They don't make them like that more. Would make an excellent Blackfish rod. I'm a Snyder fan. Check out these result from a search. https://www.fishraider.com.au/search/?q="Mag Bream"&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy

  17. Thanks for posting that Donna, it was great. It reminded me of another doco recommended to me when I first started chasing Blackfish. Ron Calcutt's The Rockhoppers, great bit of nostalgia.
  18. I'll be learning the finer points of fly fishing with the help of Hank Patterson https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5m0QbVTWhtw And I'll be whittlin' up some float for the Blackfish
  19. Oh mate that made me laugh, you'll fish just about anywhere. I remember the picture of you fishing in a bucket in the back yard. Good stuff!
  20. My Grandfather was a NSW country policeman from Uralla, he was brought up hunting and fishing. Ducks, pigs, yellowbelly and cod. He spent most of his career in country areas, Broken Hill, Bathurst, Leeton, Gundagai, Albury etc. He was nicknamed 'The Sherrif ' not just because he was a cop, he was the best shot in the area. He was a good sport, played golf, cricket and tennis, but I think fishing was his favourite. After many holidays to the coast, he and my Nan retired to Forster. Fishing and vegetable gardening were a supplement to the pension, (and back in those days there weren't the same bag limits we have today.) Most of the neighbors also fished, and they would share the catch between themselves or freeze it if someone was heading to Sydney to supply Mum and Dad with fish for 5 grandkids. We went up every year for a couple of weeks. I went out fishing with him, he always got fish, but as a little kid, I didn't catch much. I guess I didn't know what was really going on, but I was fishing with my Pa. First time out, I was maybe 4, we fished Wallis Lake. Pa and my sister caught about 30 Flatties between them, I caught a Blue Swimmer crab and nearly jumped out of the boat at the sight. I still have some of his gear.
