Gday Raiders. Last day of work today and knocked off early so decided to take my son out for an afternoon fish. Target species was the humble yet very tasty whiting. Bait was tube worms. Arrived around 7pm and fished till 10pm. Tide was very low when we arrived but it made finding the gutter super easy (you can see it clear as day in the background of the photo below) . The fishing was slow initially, a fish every 20 mins or so. But around 830pm the tide really started rising and we starting getting some good fish. Most of them around 30cm. Some nudging 40cm. All up we managed a nice bag of 20 fish and my son Adam probably caught 7 of them. Very proud of him. Thx for reading Sam

Gday Raiders Its that time of year, my bottom bashing sessions are soon to come to an end and replace with the much painstaking yet very rewarding hunt for a beakie. Todays session was really just to see what the situation looks like offshore. First up. Trolled north head in the hope for a Bonito or King. No love there. Fanged it to the FAD. Water temp, hot. 24 degrees but green. No dollies around. Even the babies or rat kingies no where to be seen yet. We then did some reef hopping between Manly and Long reef finding the odd snapper, an Octopus and a single pearly. Fishing the 70-80 depth the current was running downhill HARD. There was a southerly breeze going so with boat and current going opposite directions it made getting to the bottom a little difficult. On the way back we trolled from blue Fish point to north head again hoping for a Bonito but to no avail. Looks like they havent arrived yet. On holidays from tomorrow and plan on doing a shit tonne of fishing over the holidays Thx for reading

Great report fellas. Sounds like it was a fun day in the water ! My theory about the yakkaz is that they are best targetted before and just after sunrise. They become very finicky after that.

Try a 1 meter trace next time. The bait has a better natural movement. I always fish 1 meter trace

Beach fishing is absolutely very different. 8lb on the beach is just a waste of your time and money

Great report. And great result considering a 10 year hiatus! Yes, absolutely 8lb line in the surf is a no go. Probably ok for inside the estuary but as i mentioned in an earlier report this week. The backwash from the surf combined with the fish naturally trying to swim into deeper water creates the perfect leader popping scenario! Glad to hear you were happy with the new gear

Ahhhhh.....another lost battle to the legendary whiskers. Hed have a fair few jigs hanging off his gob by now. Better luck next time. Great bag of eating fish as always
