  1. Nice effort there. I hope you were out of the wind as it was blowing a gale from the north by lunchtime, as I noted. Aaaiiieeeee. Blue Bars on weed, now that's fantastic and certainly a unusual capture. Though I know of some Adults taken this year and very recently. Times are a changing.
  2. Over the years I've found a couple in packets of prawns, mind you that was a while ago as I've not bought a packet of prawns recently.
  3. Thats one impressive Flathead and the Tailors an animal as well. Great to see it was with the family. Golden times.
  4. That makes some great reading Julian, many thanks for the post.
  5. I would also call it a Big Eye.
  6. Na Neil, certainly no poet mate and the Southern Cross thing is by Louis McManus. I used to go and see the Bushwackers many years ago and they would sing this song at their concerts, boy did it go off. Nothing like a good Aussie bush ballad to get going.
  7. Go get-em Neil, buggars of things. Do it for the system, do it for Australia and do it for fun.
  8. Here's a bit of the story http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-16/massive-swordfish-caught-off-tasmania/7331238 Certainly a huge fish.
  9. Totally agree. When I was younger I spent a bit of time up that way and camp by the river. Often in those early morning times the fog would slowly descend through the She Oaks and envelope us. James Lister Cuthbertsons Poem summed it up best. The Morning Star paled slowly, the Cross hung low to the sea, And down the shadowy reaches the tide came swirling free, The lustrous purple blackness of the soft Australian night, Waned in the grey awakening that heralded the light; Still in the dying darkness, still in the forest dim The pearly dew of the dawning clung to each giant limb, Till the sun came up from ocean, red with the cold sea mist, And smote on the limestone ridges, and the shining tree-tops kissed; Then the fiery Scorpion vanished, the magpie's note was heard, And the wind in the she-oak wavered, and the honeysuckles stirred, The airy golden vapour rose from the river breast, The kingfisher came darting out of his crannied nest, And the bulrushes and reed-beds put off their sallow grey And burnt with cloudy crimson at dawning of the day.
  10. Excellent work, every one wins with a smile.
  11. Great fish, love the Red Devils.
  12. The lines on the face make the first one a Six Spine for me.
  13. I'm with you Steve, First is a Juvenile Six Spine and second is a Yellowfin. Both Sixspine and Yellowfin have spines near the tail, Sixspine are more pronounced.
  14. Can't possibly ID the Whaler but I wouldn't be surprised if its a small Bull Shark, (Carcharhinus leucas) with the shape of its head. Carcharhinus leucas
  15. Kids may not look back at it in years to come as the trip they caught all the fish, but the time that went fishing with POPPY and had an adventure fishing off the bank.
  16. There's been workshops etc plus meeting with the Minister fro DPI. The final workshop was held yesterday at Sydney Fish Markets.
  17. Have a look at a couple of these links. 18. I would guess it would have something to do with this http://www.marine.nsw.gov.au/key-initiatives/hawkesbury-shelf-marine-assessment There's a huge push to create another Marine park from Newcastle to Wollongong.
  19. I would call that a Brassy Trevally, quite sure thats not a Big Eye.
  20. I would have to agree, Giant Trevally Caranx ignobilis.
  21. I'd call it a Black Sole to Tony. Brachirus nigra. Pretty slimy critters. Have caught a couple over the years around Watts Reef.
  22. Excellent, love seeing that part of the country.
  23. I recon it could be the culprit. I've been busted off, then a few minutes later you catch one of these with you line out of its mouth. Hungry and not shy. Ones I've caught have been in Kimberleys certainly not in NSW which makes it extra special. Oh and I see your the Silver Biddy record holder, certainly nice having this badge beside that.
