  1. I made the tank to follow the shape of the floor so it sits really low. Frank
  2. Stevo. In my 14 foot tinnie I have a 100 ltr tank sitting in front of the rear twart seat I have bilge pump filling tank and also have bilge pump emptying tank both are through hull type bilge pumps each has a switch to operate pump, you just have to remember what switch is turned on, both can run at the same time if you just want to refresh water but that's a bit of a waste of battery power. I have the outlet coming out the side of the boat just below the gunwale . most pumps are capable of pushing water uphill to approx. 600mill 1 metre maximum. So you could have your tank sitting on the floor and still have the outlet going over the gunwale, engine well location ideal for outlet hose to be. I would recommend a tank no smaller than 50 ltrs if you intend to venture offshore. Frank
  3. Stevo. Keep in mind if you are talking about having the bait tank under the bait board you have to factor engine at full tilt so you would have to remove tank/bait board before tilting engine for transport on trailer. If you are talking about having the bait tank where I suggested , port side where seat is now you could simply put a drain hole through side of engine well without too much fuss and have easy drainage. Could fit quiet a large tank in that space. Frank
  4. Baz. Any further progress on the bait board ?. Frank
  5. I've done it from Vic to NSW and I think as long as trailer is registered it doesn't matter what state it's in. Frank
  6. Derek. why not just use velchro? Frank
  7. Mike. IF you are anywhere near Berala bring the rods to my place and I will supply the dremmel and guide you through the process so you don't damage the rods, might even have some suitable end caps here OR make some. Frank
  8. Neil. The rains will come, maybe not enough and maybe not soon enough to save a lot of farmers lifestyle but they will come. We had a cloud burst at Burrinjuck and then another as you state just recently so a couple of follow ups will see a bit more water in the rivers. Hope it's sooner rather than later but we just have to keep our chins up and keep hoping. Frank
  9. generally when shortening rods ( for whatever reason ) you would take a similar amount off butt as you do tip but in your case I don't think this would be needed, 100mm seems a bit excessive to me for what you want to achieve, try taking 25mm off and go try it out and another 25mm if it is still not what you want, keep going till you get the optimum length you are looking for. Use a dremmel ( if you have one ) don't try using hack saw as this will rip through the corbon/glass instead of cutting through and you might end up with splinters. A photo or 2 before and after shots would be good. PS cutting 100mm off the butt would probably mean you would no longer be able to place the rod into most rod holders with confidence. Frank
  10. I use this stuff and have found it to be quiet good just slap it on with old paint brush taking extra care with any cut edges, dries just like resin , white when brushed on so easy to see where you have done but dries clear. Bunnings and reasonably cheap, I am on my 2nd lot of 4 ltrs and it does heaps. Washes out in water so easy to clean brushes. Frank
  11. Donna. Thanks for putting that up on the site. I am approaching 73 years of age and have been a boat owner since I was 16 and I never realised the flares got so hot that they could burn a hole in a boat. It's a really good presentation and one that each and every member should watch and learn. I will be handing in all my old out of date flares during collection. And this thread deserves a post of the month award IF there was such a thing. Frank
  12. I would suggest you purchase a deep cycle battery of between 95-135 amp hour to run the electric, if you have a weight issue you could reduce the size of your current battery to a 20 amp hour which are tiny in comparison but would still give plenty of power to run the low amperage items. It's pretty important you run deep cycle for the electric. Frank
  13. Yes must do it this year, got about 20 years worth here. Frank
  14. Somewhere far away from the ramp. Frank
  15. Hi mate. It's early days yet but who knows what I will be doing when you arrive. IF by chance you are prepared to go for a fish in quiet waters to have a go at some bread and butter Ozzie fish in a small tinnie I would be only too happy to take you and your wife for a few hours. At this point I only have a 14 foot alloy boat but it takes 3 people with some comfort and at least I could get you on the water for some fun and it wouldn't cost you a cent, and I would supply all the gear needed, you would only need to get you and wife to my place OR meet me at the boat ramp . As it gets closer to the time contact me and we could make some arrangements to meet. If you are not interested in small boat I do understand. Frank
  16. The view from our cabin Typical Burrinjuck storm it got worse than this thunder lightning wind but not a lot of rain, nowhere near enough water to do much good but it did bring some moisture to the region. At one stage we couldn't see the far hills. Frank
  17. Well what a complete and utter waste of time FISHING WISE that was !!. Great to catch up with BigNeil and spend time with him again but the fishing was atrocious. Not one fish, not even a follow , seen numerous Carp but even those refused to have a go. fish just closed down and whatever we done couldn't bring them to have a go. Spent many hours in the boat doing whatever we thought of to get them to bite but it just didn't happen. Friday there was 8 boats out on the water and not one fish caught, average 3 fishermen per boat, at least that made me feel a little better about it and stopped blaming myself for the lack of action. We had 4 sessions totalling approx. 16 hours on the water and not one fish, an all time non event for me at Burrinjuck. I have been fishless there before but usually because of inclement weather and not being able to get on the water but this time we spent plenty of time on water with no result. Friday afternoon the usual Burrinjuck storm hit us and we pushed through a meter chop to get back to the ramp, bearing in mind the boat is only 11 feet long. A great time was had by myself anyway, l but I'm not sure Neil enjoyed it as much as me, I will be back there again but probably not Neil. Sorry guys there are no photos of fish but that's how it goes sometimes. Frank
  18. Heading down to Burrinjuck dam this morning to catch up with BigNeil and get a bit of freshwater fishing in. The target species is Yellowbelly ( Golden Perch ) as it is currently Cod closure, any accidental Cod caught will be released without taking out of the water. Been a while since I wet a line and I am really looking forward to this trip , specially after being disappointed with not being able to get accommodation at Windamere . I will be home Saturday and will place a report then, fish or no fish. There is no reception at Burrinjuck so won't be able to do anything from down there. Frank
  19. I am right handed cast with my right hand ( normally ) and wind with my right hand with spin gear , I feel awkward winding left handed, it's just what I am used to. With baitcaster reels I can cast left handed almost as good as with my right hand but it still feels awkward if I wind left handed. I have a beautiful left hand wind baitcaster worth over $400 and I think I have used it about 3 times as I use right hand wind mostly. As have been said. Use whatever feels comfortable. Funny I hardly ever seen anyone wind left handed till REX became popular on TV then all of a sudden everyone has been winding left handed all their lives, Influence ?. Frank

    Fish Heads

I think depending where you done it you would get a favorable response . If you done it in George st you would get frowned upon but if you done it in a popular crabbing area by the water you wouldn't have enough heads/frames to go around, and there is still a lot of good meat/flesh in heads and between the frames people boil and use other methods of getting the most from their catch. Frank
  22. Zoran. You done well mate , gummies are a great catch and top tucker but you must bleed them straight after capture and cared for till you get them to the cutting board. Frank
  23. Wonderful. You never cease to amaze me. I would love to one day have you accompany me in my boat for a session to show me around a few spots in the port, but I realize you may not want to reveal your spots or your style of fishing to a total stranger. Well done once again and thanks for sharing. Frank
  24. You could get 2x 35 amp hour batteries for the price of a 60 ah full size battery and they would weigh less. use one till it's flat approx. 3 hours use then switch to 2nd battery for another 3 hours. and nobody is going to run an electric motor more than 6 hours a day. Easily stored handled and charged. Frank
  25. I was at one stage thinking of mounting a bow mount lecky on the transom, but decided against it. It would be handy on the back to use electric motor to pull off from the bank and also would be very handy to drive boat onto trailer, and would manouver just as well on the transom as the bow but the room it took up on the back was too much so I mounted it on the bow like everyone else. Kingie I have an old minn kota transom mount 36 lb thrust I could lend you along with a battery to see if they would be suitable for your boat, certainly would push it along OK. Frank
