  1. the carpark is an area of slightly rougher bottom just inside the shelf off port stephens..its actually nearly due east from Newcastle..in between..33.02.00 and 33.06.00 from76 fathoms to 90 fathoms...its roughly 4 miles long by two miles wide...it is inside the Newcastle canyon  and generally holds bait..when the bait is there the marlin are there...our best days have seen us tag up to 14 fish..when the beakies are there some days ive counted over fifty boats in the one area that can be seen by eye...if you need any info or more tips pm me...I will hit the beakies after xmas  theres a few there now but not the numbers like feb/march..rick

  2. the two stand outs I fish are south west rocks and wooli/Minnie waters...plenty of other spots in between..scotts hd sawtell shoals coffs mulloway arrawara...barriers bay at plomer hat head.....even crowdy if they push south like the last few years...rick

  3. the longtails havnt reached forster yet...the good water pushing down has hit a cold patch from crowdy down..saying that yft can turn up any time..we got 3 yft over 45 kg in one day livebaiting Winnie bay years ago was on xmas eve and the water was 19 deg ..there were striped tuna in hard on the rocks..lots of bait..epic day with over a dozen yft and longtails caught...I carried the biggest back to the bottom carpark and it went 48kg 10hrs after being caught...not sure where you can still fish at jervis but we spun up tuna after xmas most years at eves and beecroft...rick

  4. seriously....you are questioning where thousands of people carry their tanks....the main concern for fumes is in inboard situations where fumes under floor or engine bay could ignite upon ignition due to errant sparks from leads or wires to starter..then you have blower fans mounted for this problem......sorry to ignite an argument on the side of your topic baz  I think you have a great workable setup...rick

  5. if  the filter was the target for ventilation .no problem there..if the tank was the target  that was answered .keep the breather shut till you need it for use..you don't leave the cap open on a jerry can so don't leave the breather open on your portable..underfloor tanks have breathers built in as you cant normally get to them to have a manual breather that can be opened or shut by hand..i carry a 22.5 ltr portable on bigger trips in front of my fishbox in the front of the boat and leave the breather shut so I don't get fumes.....if you look at baz original foto his tank is in an open area...??????????.rick

  6. telescopic rods were discussed a few months ago..majority are crap..some are ok..i carry one in my cod backpack in case someone has a failure or break..it is a good.lol.quality that I picked up cheap in a garage sale...unless you spend big bucks and buy quality brand I would leave them alone  and look at 4 or 5 piece travel rods..rick

  7. hey baz  open the breather on your portable when you switch to it..leave it shut to retain fumes while stored...the filter setup you have is fully sealed with clamped and screwed connectors.and now taps..i have no idea why ventilation was brought up..if your system is leaking and needs ventilation it should be replaced..on lots of larger boats ive fished on these filters are behind doors and in enclosed spaces..all this comment has done is make you worry bout something that's not a problem...you have set it all up well with taps to stop the line drawing air..if I were you I would be rather happy with your handiwork..now go fishing and enjoy yourself...rick

  8. id go 75 or 90.they are same weight..i have 4.8vsea glass hull.since going from 2st 60 yammie to 90 2st yammie I havnt looked back..entirely different boat to drive with plenty of power left unused..the 60 4st would be doughy on that wider hull..they hold a lot of water surface when getting on the plane..loaded with more than 2 bodies on board I think you would be disappointed..rick
