a lot of people in our fishing club that crab in lake mac set their witches hats in a line then sit close by and fish so they can keep an eye on them...unattended floats get pulled all too often up here so I assume its the same elsewhere...as a side note fisheries check floats all the time and if the float is not legal size.shape.and details of owner.plus weight on the rope they take them..so anyone using bottles or pool noodle up here can expect to have them seized...rick

will you be scooping or using drag net..rick

top sunrise shot jeff..unlucky on the reds mate..was tryin to go broughton tmrw but have no tow vehicle for a coupla days...happy new year to you and yours..rick

I seen one mounted the other day on an angle so they didn't cut the rails...apparently the base doesn't matter how its oriented it all works off the direction of the head unit...you should be able to have a mount made to go out between the existing rails...rick

you've got it covered with your choices..use the lightest heads possible so you get good action..too heavy and they wont work as well...hope you catch your first sp fish.good luck..rick
-
imo two speed reels don't have any advantage till you get up to 24kg line...in lighter line the balance between drag pressures and gearing doesn't work....we fished for sharks out of lake mac for years and all our 15kg outfits were single speed...the tyrnos reels are very good reels and you will have no problems...rick

mate..soft plastics will work drawn across the bottom with jerking or jigging motion..hardbodies work midwater or subsurface.depending on style and size..pretty broad question..hope this helps..rick

the three inch pumpkinseed works well in deep water..like Swansea channel..30ft running hard..in shallower water I drop to 2inch..pumpkinseeds or squidgy bloodworms..rick

a few years ago I had the unfortunate pleasure of watchin a group of fisherman of Asian descent..im not racist just being factual..they had two buckets of undersize bream.reds.tarwhine.off a wharf in front of Swansea rsl..I talked with them about it being illegal..they didn't care..i rang and rang local fisheries..no answer..my mate and I are both bearded tattooed hard cases so we took it upon ourselves to kick their buckets over and release the small fish back into the channel..they kicked up a stink.but when I informed them I had rung fisheries and given descriptions of their cars and regos and the fact that we could kick their arse they opted to leave..fisheries informed me they booked them later that evening on blacksmiths breakwall with undersize and over the limit of tailer...we were happy...I wouldn't recommend this course of action for the average fisho.but.we had it under control and could handle the consequences.....sik the fisheries on her if shes an habitual offender..if she knows the size limits and defies it.how many times has she done it how many times will she do it ???????rick

spot on a mix of wet bread pillies and tuna oil mashed in a bucket then thrown in water in small enough quantities to attract but not overfeed fish...if that doesn't raise something..theres nothing there...rick

bugger..that must be terrible having to catch heaps of bream.hahaha..keep an eye out for muddies there should be plenty..rick
-
just standing there looking for them doesn't mean they aren't there..my local jetty holds squid..some nights you catch heaps some none..daytime never..bait can hide under jetties or they may be 40mtrs out over reef..if you want instant bait head for a shop or look around and fish for them like everyone else has to...none of us has been handed spots that work all the time..we have to try different spots at different times..its called learning and is part of fishing...rick

there is a lot of area you can wade..tide heights vary up to 60 cm and times are later than the entrance...rick

Swansea channel is more suited to scooping from a boat as you can anchor on current lines and upwellings to advantage..the entrance would be the choice for wading and scooping...there is large areas of shallow flats accessible from the southern side near the bridge at the moment..my advice would be to check during daylight hours for where you want to wade in the dark...if your worried about kids safety have them wear a pfd in case they lose their footing..wetsuits are preferable to waders as they fill with water and are dangerous if you take a tumble..two men drowned there last year wearing waders..but neither could swim and they chanced deeper water...hope you have some success..rick
