best ive seen was an rx7 filled up with concrete...rick
  2. how old is your braid..it might be failing no matter what knot you use..also check your guides to make sure they are not cracked especially the tip ..this will cut your line in a blink..rick
  3. small redspots will work..anything the rubbish cant pik apart is useable..rick

    Ruined trip

mine ordered a cube of gravel on a Monday..that way I had to spread it before the weekend..my girls a thinker lol..rick
  7. if you don't mind a long walk Winnie bay is good..if heading north I would go to laurieton and fish north side of pt perpendicular there are longies there now tomaree has been quite..booti charlotte cape hawk have fish..hat head has heaps goin thru..your reel will work but a tld would be better...rick
  8. the temps 20.7 at the island..by all rights it should be holding bait still but they were not there sunday...rick
  9. if you get hassled by sweep I find if I burley heavy and keep them near the boat then cast out the back of the trail you can still get reds...if the sweep are ratting your baits go to bigger baits or use whole heads off yakkas or slimies..I sometimes cut the head of sweep with part of there body trimmed thinner and use that..rick
  10. avoca is a bit of a wave trap not good in swell..it would be unfishable the last two days as its been big..i would consider 1.5 or bigger too much but it depends if its coming from south east or north.it all affects it differently...imo there are better spots anyway..rick
  11. north isl mate the sisters was covered in undersize reds..that is where we could fish ,it waspumping whitewater...breaking in between the two main rocks..can only sit where it lets you on the day...the big schools of slimies have disappeared. caught 4 all day...have to get them at the heads next trip..rick
  12. yeah mate the weather turned really nice but the wind swung round 180 degrees to stuff me up anchoring where I really wanted..that was the bad side of it..rick
  13. I wouldn't go under 10mm in that size boat..you have to think of the weight of your boat then the pressures swell and wind can impart on it..i have a 100 mtr length and a 300mtr length with pik anchors on both and use a float and clip system .the winch you are thinking of will restrict you to fairly shallow water compered to a float system..with 95mtrs of rope at a 3to1 ratio of angle you can anchor in 30 mtrs...with a float I can fish 100mtrs...my personal opinion only but I don't see the value or use in a winch...rick
  14. hi welster stick with the silver rope and buy a float and clip..its the only way to anchor in my opinion..i have a vsea cuddy and fish by myself often I can anchor and retrieve in 90mts of water with little effort..drive past float keep going till anchor chain comes up and hits clip.the float will bounce on the surface stop turn boat around and idle back towards float pulling in slack rope with ease..simple effortless easy..i cant imagine pulling an anchor in by hand..thats archaic and too much hard work..choose anchor type to suit bottom your dropping it on and use plenty of chain ..I put a foto on a previous thread of the reef picks I use with a breakaway rig..look up.[anchoring in deep water over reefs]...hope this helps..rick

  16. unlucky on the fish front but good that you enjoyed your stay and caught up with some members..hope the cod treat you better when you get out and have a crack at em..rick
  17. I fished outside for years in a 4.3 clark centre console with fifty mariner..just be careful of the weather..these days there is seabreeze willy weather and so many other apps for fones theres no excuse to go out in bad seas and put you or others at risk..rick
  18. well I managed to get to the bay early sun morn..beautiful morn sat on 22 knots all the way to the island..once there we had the wind turn at daybreak and swing thru west to nsth west to south..all my fave spots had fish on the northern side or uphill side but I couldn't anchor to get at them..we fished a few spots near the sisters but it was pumping with big swells breaking all over the place..picked out a few keepers amonst lots of small reds..no slimies there like 4 weeks ago..a couple of bonito and some undersize kings kept us busy for a while..a move to the north side had us sitting on a reef edge and the sand flatties were on the chew..every bait then any plastic were pounced on but most were 30/31 cm kept 6 that went 35cm then moved again..a bit of joy came in the shape of a nice spangled emperor .foto in chat under weather..all in all a top day but no big reds..ah well you cant get em everytime..I finished the day with a good box of fish..8 reds. emperor.bonnies.flatties.tailor.and 4 big greeneyed squid..hope to get back there in two weeks..didn't worry bout pics of smaller fish..but just shows with perseverance you can still get a feed in unkind weather conditions..rick
  19. good stuff scratchie they luv them zmans..rick
  20. it makes it difficult to anchor where you want..as your berley and your lines go under the boat instead of out the back of the boat....also in my case I couldn't anchor safely near a working bommie as the wind was blowing from opposite direction as needed..rick
  21. The wind was blowon swest the current ne..made for a hard mornIings fishing ended up with eight small reddies but this spangled emperor was a bonus
  22. thanks mate swell was still pumpin at catho this arvo on the high tide..had to be careful where I fished...looks good for the morning..now I have to try and sleep..rick
