  1. Putting a magnet over the hole might not do anything, especially if it was a "S/S" screw .... Probably a cheap non 316 Marine Grade screw .... Never-the-less, it still would be a good idea to do, the same with cars, that might have "BOG" over dents .... Great_White
  2. Great Article you have put together there Fab1, I will be passing this on to my mates here in SA .... So, your little "Help File" goes WEST .... and will help others interstate. Thanks Great_White
  3. Definitely Top one is a "LING" ... Bottom one, trash ..... eel of sorts ... LOL Great_White
  4. As the old saying goes ..... "Oils ain't Oils" ...... etc etc ... I have used for many years, the old trusty "Singer Sewing Machine Oil". A Very good fine oil. Oh and cheap too ..... Normally just a dab here and there, not on fibre washers, but just about anything else. Great_White
  5. Ducky , what is the "W" rating of the LED underwater light? Is that a BLUE coloured one ? ...... Do they come in different colours? Oh, and where did you find these? Flea Bay ? Great_White
  6. @Berleyguts I had the same problem with my Humminbird Transducer ... The two (2) Retaining tabs have worn .... too many times the transducer has done the job of popping out.. I had to go and buy a new bracket, problem solved. Very inexpensive, under $50 by memory. Unfortunately, this is what happens with the "flip out mechanism". Great_White
  7. Happy 13th Birthday Always a great read, and great memories, from when I fished over there all those years ago ... Thankyou for a Great Forum Great_White

  11. If you are reading this (Easter Sunday) ... even better .... you've nearly made it ..... now keep it safe going, one day to go. If you can, take that extra 1 - 2 days to get back, and miss the traffic..... (which can be horrendous on the Princes Highway) Oh, and Happy Easter Sunday ..... take mind not to eat all of the kids Choccy Eggs !!! A safety message and thoughts from a Southern Stater ! Nearly forgot ...... tight lines to all ... Great_White
  12. I too spooled up a couple of my O/H's with thin braid, same again, even with more tension on spool, "Birds Nests" , went to a heavier Braid and no problems since... How ever, I did de-spool my ABU 7000 which had 40lb PP on it, and went back to 20lb mono.. Great_White
  13. Fantastic News Indeed !!! I didn't know of any other place I could log into, and basically relive my early 20's Fishing NSW Sth Coast regions. I am so pleased that Fishraider will continue into the future !!! Great_White
  14. Again, Here! Here ! Surely , there would be enough very active people from here, perhaps willing and able to take the reigns !!! Going to be a very sad day to see this site go, and I am from Interstate !!! Great_White
  15. @youngfisher10 See if you can attach a small rolling swivel to the front of your lure, and just use a locked blood knot. Hope this helps out Great_White
  16. Great Snapper there for your Dad, and a PB too .. Love it when the Bonnies are on like that, I never ever got tired of catching and releasing them, absolute excitement machines on light lines .. 4kg and lower ... I really really miss that type of action .... Great read .. Cheers Sam and Sam's Dad .... Great_White
  17. A quick tip when squidding in JB, put stinger hooks on the end of your Jag, and use heavier gear than normal. Nothing like catching live bait, and having a 8-10/0 Decoy Single hook attached to the bottom of your jig , ready and waiting for that King to monster your catch ...... Great_White
  18. Garrybeynon, what a CRACKER of a Jewie on light line ... Everything is possible, good knots and patience ... Well Done Great_White
  19. Thought I would post again, on / in this thread ... Is there any updates on availability as yet ... Thanks in advance Great_White
  20. Looks like you have grabbed the bull by the horns here ..... Steber19 As for your pictures .. try Microsoft Office Picture Manager . If you have it .. and just edit the pictures for web based.. works a treat Obviously done the homework here.. looking forward to seeing the project as she goes along through the transformation. Good luck
  21. I had a similar issue, I was getting litres of water coming out after a fishing session, when removing the bungs at wash down.. I came to one conclusion and found that I would try to screw the bung in tighter ( tighter than hand tight). Next time I went out, I used a pair of multi grips, to do up the bungs, and guess what, no water after a days outing at the wash down area. I had the same thoughts, replace this and that as well... I did sikaflex around my bungs and over the rivet heads as well. But my guess was it my undoing , by NOT tightening them up in the first instance.... Sometimes the washer supplied with the bungs can become stiffer, and not as supple when brand new ... Something to look at as well, I guess .... Great_White
  22. This IS a tragic and repeated story over and over each year, unfortunately. I used to fish the rocks, well Beecroft Peninsula, back in the 80's to early 90's... Anyone who has fished there, knows it is not a forgiving place to fish, let alone actually getting to your selected spot. I remember, one spot, just south of the "Block House", it was nicknamed 3 Graves , by the time I had moved from the area, it was known as 9 graves... and that was just from ( how to put this nicely ) naive people thinking you can safely climb down the rocks using clothes line ropes, or none at all.!!! Even here, in S.A, we have had non indigenous ( read immigrants ) people washed off harmless break waters and drowned. Most because, in my opinion, no fear of the sea, as it is found as something "new and exciting" having never seen it before! Yes, unfortunate, also preventable. But, as most , nearly all have said, you can not teach common sense . !!! My condolences to the ones that are left behind, and even worse, when there is no body recovered to farewell with dignity! 23. codymanly , wow, what an incredible day fishing the jetty .. Might be time, to bite the bullet and purchase a decent landing net, probably one with a decent extension handle. Shame you lost that massive flattie ... But at least you got something to take home for dinner ... Very under rated Bonito. When I was living on the Sth Coast, I would always bring home 1/2 dozen or so for eating. Well done on a great day out .. Great_White
  24. This is certainly a very contentious topic.. I belong to a private boat club in SA, and we are NOT allowed to drive our boats onto trailers at all.. Yes, it does erode the base of the ramps, to a state, where, the ramp either cracks, falls away, and leaves the issue with rear wheels of trailers falling off, creating a huge hazard in itself, sometimes even requiring the retrieving vehicle to be pulled out. Another issue is when driving the boat onto trailers, if it is not done correctly, with lifting the leg / motor up, the damage to your prop is another issue, with all the "soft blast" material being thrown backwards by the prop, eating away at the precious edges of your propeller.. The only time it is illegal, is when the local council has placed signage up saying that you are only allowed to winch on boats, and not drive on. So unless that signage is in place, you can drive your boat on to the trailer regardless. So, practice is the key for driving on, and watching others do it, whether correctly or wrongly should give you an idea. If you are not very proficient doing it, perhaps having a fellow boatie go with you , and get some tips / advice might go a long way to help you get it right. Great_White
