  1. I generally always use an fg knot, when tying it make sure to keep the wraps close as you can to each other as possible. When finishing it off I do a rizzuto finish, trick is with using super light line such as 4lb you don't want to put much pressure on when you sinch the knot. Only a quick pull with enough strength to sinch them together is sufficient. If you have any other questions just chuck me a pm I am more than happy to help out!
  2. Absolutely love Atomic deep divers in Ghost Gill Brown and Pro lure cranks in any colour they are deadly! Generally I like to belt my hardbodies into the dodgiest spots and see if I can land a Bream! When Bream fishing in clear water throw your lure to their back and wind in across their face, when they are in a school they generally will go into a feeding frenzy!
  3. Most definitely going to target some big Blue Nosed Bream on some plastics, a couple Estuary Perch here and there, when winter comes around the corner i'll be dusting off the Blackfish gear pulling out the floats and green weed and getting into some!
  4. Gulp Shrimp 2" in whatever colour matches the bait they r eating, I usually use Camo as I fish dirty water usually. Daiwa Baitjunkie 2.5" grubs are awesome too! I prefer them over zman, they action seems to get more fish for me. When fishing for Bream I like the keep working the lure flicking it off the bottom in sporadic but soft flicks. Seeing as you are in clean and clear water use the lightest line u can feasibly use, I would use 4lb if I were you. Also give crankbaits a go! I LOVE fishing hardbodies for Bream and they always seem to work well. Look for places that would be more inclined to hold more Bream ie a marina or anywhere with man made / natural structure, fish love this! If you have any further questions don't be afraid to PM me i'd love to help out!
  5. Hey Raiders, Had a super unfortunate thing happen recently, namely my td black, I was two piecing it as it is a two piece butt join rod (Grub'n 1.5-3kg). Went to two piece it and it wouldn't come out. Wrapped a shirt around the blank and took it off but it ended up flying out of the ferrule at a million miles an hour and slamming the rod tip goes into my fibreglass beach rod and my jewfish rod. Checked over it and there doesn't seem to be any damage, hell I loaded it up fully and its fine however is there anything I should be looking for if I look over it very throughly? Like cracks and stuff? Also how would I diagnose a rod thats been compromised from a big slam.... Cheers
  6. Yes that was me! Unfortunately as our last lockdown hit a while ago they couldn't keep me on, i'll definitely keep asking as I loved to work there but things happen. Thank you as always!
  7. Hey guys! Haven't made a report in ages so thought i'd create another one to put up after my hiatus of not posting. Lately i've been focusing heavily on bream fishing and bit by bit i've become a much better bream fisherman day by day. Figured out the tides and the techniques needed to catch fish in my local. Been using crankbaits and soft plastics mainly as my techniques of choice to catch these fish and i've been cleaning up most sessions. Saturday didn't yield much in terms of fish catches with only a small flathead being caught on an atomic GGB 38mm Deep Diver crankbait. Had a couple hits but that was about it. Sunday was a completely different day in terms of the fishing!!! My mate and me took out my mates rowboat punt onto our local bay and had a ball on the bream. There was another young bloke down at the spot with a plastics rod so we invited him to come out for a session too and we had lots of fun all three of us. We rolled cranks all over the bay amidst bucketing rain, 35kph winds and decent sized tides but we persisted! We rowed up onto a mangrove edge and proceeded to belt cranks parallel up against these edges. The other person we took out got a small one that didn't do much but still good to see him get something, my mate got a 28cm tip on a Daiwa infeet spike 52mm which went sort of hard and put in some good runs on the 8lb, it eventually gave up and started running to the mangroves to cut him off! He eventually got in it and how goods that! His first decent bream on a crankbait! After he got his bream I belted my crankbait up into an opening in the mangroves and kept my rod tip high as I rolled it through the strike zone, tap tap tap BOOM! I'm on! Even though its a small 25cm tip bream he still puts up a spirited fight on the 6lb on my new TD Tierra 1-2kg. Fixed my 2000D Exceler's line roller so it came back into the show to pull in some biggins. As i'm pulling him out he tries to rap me around mangroves and any structure he can find on the way out. I get him to the surface and lift him up into the boat, finally i'm off the donut! After this we end up rowing up to another edge and begin doing the same thing as before. Keeping the rod tip high I roll it past an edge where i've done well land based and boom! I'm on again! This fish feels a lot better compared to the last fish and is going for some runs and fighting dirty to get me structure once again. After him carrying on a bit with his fast head shakes and a couple nice runs I see the silver flash of a bream coming up from the depths. I pull him over the gunnel and there we go! Second fish done and dusted. Hooks out and hes back on his way back into the water. I cast back into the same area the very cast after I roll my crank past the same edge and I get SLAMMED by a really really nice bream! Big head shakes pulsate through my rod really testing the 1-2kg rod and my angling skills. He ends up going for a big run out wide, I start to gain line back bringing him closer and closer to the boat, under the boat he goes! ZZZZZZZZZZZ the reel is screaming! I lean over the side to dunk my rod under the boat to stop it from high sticking my rod and to avoiding his cutting me off on the hull. I gain more like back onto the reel and pivot his head towards me, finally! I have his head turned and the fish tired! I could win this. I keep pumping and winding to keep him out of structure and there his is! A nice fat slab of bream! He measures in a 35cm tip but I wasn't able to get any good photos as it was raining and we were in a tiny crowded boat. After taking the boat back in and locking it up we ended up going for lunch and then straight back into the action! We went to another spot where i've gotten bream on crankbaits in the past. First hour and it wasn't looking good, the tide was dropping even further making it hard to fish any water, we only ended up with a small bream and flathead so far. Moving around the bay to another spot close by we started casting again, first couple casts in and I score a just legal 27cm whiting. He didn't release well so I snapped his neck for the dinner table. Another 20 minutes goes by and I hook up to another really nice bream on the crankbait again! The usual fast powerful head shakes start happening and it goes for a nice run, I start to gain line back on his and he goes for another run! I gain control back and start swiftly pumping and winding in. Another 20 seconds of his carrying on and I've beached him! My mate runs over ecstatic, finally another good fish! A few quick snaps and she's back in, one thing i've noticed recently is all the bream i've been catching have been very fat and well fed, maybe getting ready to spawn or just feeding hard because of the rain? Shortly after that my mate ends up getting a 29cm tip bream on a 60mm double clutch as he slow rolls it past the jetty we are fishing off. Also got my first off the top! Just to top off the day we move to another spot and my mate falls in the water with his setup.. completely dunking his setup in saltwater... We wash in off with the water from my water bottle and immediately rush back to wash it in freshwater. Well thats the end of my weekend report! Good to put another one in after a long time. Hope you all enjoy reading it. Cheers.
  8. The first one is a stripey The second one is known as a Diamondfish / Butter Bream
  9. To maximise your catch rate I suggest giving these tips a go. Buy Gulp sandworms in CAMO in a 2" size. Also buy Gulp Baby Shrimp. Also zman grubs in Motor oil and Watermelon Red in the 2.5" size, baitjunkies in mudblood and bloodworm are also great! Match this with a size 2 1/16 hd tt jighead. Buy some gamakatsu weedless ewg worm hooks in size 1 for the gulps and size 4 for the grubs and some oo and o sinkers. Learn how to do a loop knot and "pothole" your way along a drain in the parra or a creek wherever you are. Find places where the water is running into the drain and focus your casts there. Also DO NOT be afraid to cast into dodgy places if you are fishing weedless, you can pull out some cracking fish on them. Follow the bait and fish under them. A lot of the time you will find bream and flathead sitting under them. Keep moving! Find places that give fish an easy way to get food eg drain entrances and creek mouths. Also target eddies and rockwalls, they are teeming with fish. Fish light! Go 6lb and lighter, and for the rain side of things invest in a hi vis rain jacket, they are awesome! If you need any more help feel free to send me a pm. Jamo
  10. Mum and Dad weren't too keen on it sorry. I would love to have gotten it but I usually am not allowed to buy second hand.
  11. Hey Raiders! To say i've had a horrific streak of luck recently with expensive fishing gear is an understatement. Had expensive rods fall over onto a sandstone rock platform amongst other things, reels been dunked, daiwa ags guides snapping, well I guess you get this picture! With high hopes I ended up buying a brand new 2020 TD Black rod from Daiwa specifically the Grub'n 722 ULFS, five minutes into owning it I take it outside a shop and begin to put in into the car and it slips out of my hands with my 2000s freams attached to it.... Anywho I get it in the car and go home. I end up going for a session and christen the rod with five flatties on plastics on 6lb leader. Had an early day off from school today so I decided theres no better way to spend my arvo than going for a fish! Ended up going down to my local and pulled out a 48ish cm flathead. Ended up also getting my first bream on a crankbait finally! Anyways I end up getting dropped off at home, I run up to the door and get inside and my dog jumps directly on my rod blank setting me off balance and swinging my rod into a concrete pillar.... Absolutely devastated. I try to be super careful with my gear but it just ends up getting smashed around all the time. Just wondering would this bruise the graphite blank and cause a weakness in the blank or turn my rod into a rod with the sensitivity of a broomstick? Super worried about it just wondering if I could get a second opinion on more experienced fishos espeically rod builders and what not. Sorry for the rant but i'm just super worried about my gear as I don't have the money to replace it.. Cheers everyone!!! Jamo
  12. I will definitely consider it, I'm in the market for a new blackfish rod anyways. Thank you for the thought Frank, I will let you know asap regarding it. Cheers Jamo
  13. Bullrout, caught one the other day. Heaps cool looking but they are so dodgy. I caught it and called it a "hospital trip" hahahaha
  14. If you want to catch fish on lures honestly just go for gulp, they smell like crap but fish love them! Also i'd suggest going around a 6-8lb fluorocarbon leader of at least a rod length matched with a 1/12th or lower size jighead. Try off sandflats, you'll catch flatties bream and whiting easily. Also to add to this go to somewhere close to the ocean, you'll find ocean going fish that will generally hit almost anything you throw at them. Further more gulp patterns that I find work extremely well include the gulp sandworm in 2" in camo or the bloody colour and the 2" baby shrimp in Camo. I've had heaps of success with these plastics. Also zman slim swimz in the 2.5" are one of my go to's the tail action is great and fish love to slam them especially flathead bloodworm, motor oil and midnight oil are amazing colours to use! FIsh as light as possible and vary your retrieves also start watching windsor bait and tackle on youtube his videos are chocca block full of info that is relevant to your situation, he will teach you subtle things that will get you onto more fish! Scent wise buy gulp rub on scent or s factor I've had a lot of success with both of them also give procure a go later on in saltwater yabby/nipper and shrimp for bream and flathead and mullet and bloody pilchard for flathead. Use the double hop retrieve, small flicky hops, long pulls of the rod and all sorts of other retrieves that you can think of during your next session. Also don't be afraid to try new areas, its always good to expand your horizons! Anything regarding plastics fishing feel free to contact me I'm always free and happy to help anyone that is keen to get into this awesome way to fish! Let us know how you go. Jamo
  15. Anyone following this guide WILL catch blackfish. If you find where they hold you will catch fish. Get good weed and gear and you'll all be well on your way to getting a few.
  16. Atomic arrowz 2-6lb 7ft Daiwa exceler 2000D 6lb braid of your choice. With that setup you'd be belting lures a country mile!
  17. The herring are amazing for unweighted bream bait, good flesh baits too but depends on the day for using them as dead bait however live herring are possibly one of the best big flathead / jewfish livebaits you can get. In my early days on fishraider me and my mates used to livebait herring for flathead and the live and every weekend we would get absolutely roflstomped..
  18. Those are some cracking blackfish for the river! Me and the boys unintentionally ended up targeting them unprepared however we managed half a dozen for a feed from 29cm-38cm. They are still around just not in large numbers however theres always plenty of small fish... onya. Jamo
  19. Man fishing ultra light setups in skinny water creeks is so much fun! Good on ya, some good ep in the bag toooo good! Well done!
  20. Great Trevally, they go like a steam train at that size!
  21. Man you always seem to manage a feed and a good one at that! Prime eating fish there. Well done as usual good on ya yowie!
  22. I've caught bream with hooks down their mouths and flathead too. I generally cut the hook down to the bend so that its less of a nuisance for them if possible, poor buggers.. Jamo
  23. Very nice Snapper for the hacking Yowie! After lockdown i'm planning to go and give it a go with some baits for pelagics and whatever else I can catch! Onya Jamo
  24. Another awesome story Waza! Keep up these stories, really enjoying them. Jamo
