Anybody here use the alloy boat rollers on their trailer? I was under the boat on the weekend and noticed a fair bit of marking to the Keel on the quintrex. It appears where the edge of the keel has contacted the step on the Alloy roller. I put it on last Summer because the plastic one was just getting hammered every time i retieved the boat. I was thinking of spinning it in a lathe and removing the step on the roller and making it blend better. As except for the marks it has been an improvement otherwise. Anybody had similar problems?

Sorry mate disagree a bit. There is a difference between a Stacer and allycraft and the way they are constructed that makes the Stacer more desriable. The after market trim and tilt was CMC or CNC by memory handled by a house boat company in Australia, approx $1,000 if i remember correctly.

Whilst i had the bait tank out last year I started to install a second bilge pump with a separate float switch. I did not finish wiring as i mainly wanted to get the gear in while the tank was out of the way as it makes access to the centre bilge near impossible on the boat. And i could do the wiring quickly if i was going offshore or to moor it (which i did neither) I started to wire it this morning and i noticed the ball in the float switch was sticking and not always switching on or off. I imagine banging around on the water it would loosen up a bit but i don't want to take the chance. It was a cheap brand of switch (not Rule or Johnson) and i probably got what i paid for and will not make same mistake again. So what do raiders find best in float switches separate or integrated? I noticed even when 1st installed that you had to be careful with wires and hose getting in the way of the float switch. my setup will be a 1500GPH Rule 1"1/8' outlet manual switched pump and then a automatic switched pump of around 7-900 GPH

my first boat was insured with Nrma for 2 mths before being written off. Only beef i had was being new i didnt have correct values on the Hull (too much on motor) and they were only going to take the hull. leaving me with a trailer and motor to sell! After a very friendly chat with the assessor he agreed to sell me the hull back and i flogged the remains on blah blah poop and breaking even. 2nd boat i took the Yamaha marine insurance (Yamaha users only) 30% cheaper than anybody else for the last two years with some really good included benefits. It was managed by Nautilass underwritten with Hollard and i had a bit of problems with getting an agreed value through. This year the renewal has just come through and it has gone up considerably now underwritten by Westfarmers! I will be shopping around this month for the best deal but may go back with NRMA, just don't want the hassle of separate BMT values

Probably because most on here seem to have the Hummingbird, Lowrance or Furuno. Do a search, the threads/users i have read give the Garmin a good wrap. Let us know what you think when it is here.

Going to be staying in a house on the water up at Forster for a week and was wondering if there is anything obvious i should be doing whilst the boat is moored? Do i leave the leg down or up? Should i still flush the motor (maybe no water on the jetty) Is there a particular way i should be tying the mooring lines? Any suggestions are welcome as i have never left a boat unattended at a jetty before Thanks

To my knowledge all Lowrance sounders come with a transducer so it would be a spare part i think

Yep sand will do it, pack it tight and if you are going to use heat make sure the sand is as dry as or your bungs will fire out like a shotgun. You can buy a cheap Chinese made tube bending kit that have round dies to 7/8 and square to 1" for about $150-$180 these look ok for the money but i guess that is sort going to blow your budget a bit (and doesn't do 1" round, although you could use the square die). Go and have a look at the principal of how they work by pulling the tube around the die and then make something with plywood and MDF. This a bit hard to explain but the concept is dead easy cut out your required bend radius from 1" MDF and fastened to a ply backing board. Then secure the tube to one side of the makeshift die (we call a "buck") fasten another piece of ply over the top. By now the tube should be secure and can not easily expand sideways (hence cant flatten). Then gently start to pull the tube around the buck. Everything needs to be solid and you can use sand as well. As mentioned above your sand needs to be dry, it is best dried on trays in an oven, but it stinks to high heaven so find another method to dry it. Even if you are not going to heat the tube the sand still packs better if it is baked dry. Good Luck

All good points above, keep in mind the Chinese boats will have a much lower resale value as well, I know a couple grand seems a big difference but it will get forgotten after a while.

Selous I perfer the platuim card to the nautipath even with the pixelation but i guess the platuim cost heaps more. was the nautipath standard or did you have to pay for it?

Hi Craig I am not referring to the noise, emmissions or fuel consumption. I am sure that would all be great as per other etecs, just the mechanics of a large capacity two cylinder inline motor firing at 180 degrees. Could not see that being as smooth as the 3 or 4 cylinder motor. But i reckon he needs to try it for himself, i just wish mine would take the 115, last ear looking at the Bluefin 525's a dealer in QLD had one with a Etec V4115 thing flew did 75km and jumped out the hole like a rocket.

Tuffy you should look at all your options, the Yams a great especially the 50/4's. But the etec's are impressive as well, the only thing i would say is try a 50 etec out. I would have no hesitation putting a 75/90 etec on my boat especially with Huey as the dealer or there 115 it is a magnificent motor imo. But personally would need to be convinced of the 50/60. The old johno 50 did not impress me, being a 800cc twin cylinder, never seemed smooth to me, they would speed up idle and do all sort of things to help but in the end 800+cc is big for two cylinders especially in pararel form and compared with your Honda may seem harsh. Gotta watch using the traps nowadays as some councils have banned them (Blue Mountains Council for one) They have found instances of small platypus getting caught and drowning in unattended traps.
