    Fun Trivia

I got 9/10 on fish species quiz but only around 5 or 6 for fishing in Victoria or South Australia but I was expecting that as when I get a question about AFL in the MrsWordfisherman quiz I get that wrong 99% of the time ! I occasionally jag one though There are quizzes for all sorts fishing as well on there .

    Fun Trivia

Once you start it times you and doesn’t stop until you submit your answers , once you have started you can’t go back and do it again or do the quiz twice as it knows you have already done it , if two people are sharing the same computer to do their separate quiz I think you have to notify them of it won’t let you do it - all there to stop people cheating I suppose .
  3. And a thank you has to to to Greg for letting you give Fishraider and Deckee a number plugs 👍👍👍

That’s the important bit - we are not playing for cattle stations and you might learn something !

    Fun Trivia

I can highly recommend it !
  6. I think the fishing Australia was the revised issue .
  7. The lure is a Bellbrook swayback . Surprised the rubber on the floppy hasn’t disintegrated! They were an ingenious lure with a two position bib - worse thing was replacing the hooks - not a hard job but getting them wasn’t easy .
  8. Yes but not the floppy it was rubber . Nothing wrong with timber lures , some say they have a better sonic signal than plastic .
  9. To a lure collector they would be along with a genuine Rublex Floppy in mint condition ! I always wanted an ABU Killer but I don’t think they ever bought them into Australia . The Lure shown in my post was made in Sydney , they were a fairly famous name back in the 50s through to the late 70s . A jointed minnow has a really unique action . Sadly my one got sacrificed to the gods of the oyster reef a long time ago 😭
  10. When I was a kid there was Fishing news - a newspaper dedicated to fishing - I think fortnightly publication . It was very similar to what Fishing monthly is and may have been it’s predecessor. Then the goldmine of info was published - The Encyclopedia of Australian Fishing - Three volumes that were purchased in magazine format and when you had the lot you ordered the covers and spent half a day sorting all the issues out and fitting them into the covers . The third volume ( not shown )was the master guide to practical fishing .
  11. I used to buy my tackle of Ron and Rob - who sadly passed away way too young - he was a top bloke .
  12. I wonder how they would go fighting a Marlin off the rocks while wearing a PFD ! iirc things got pretty nasty down at the tubes in later years .
  13. For Bream a cranka crab For Flathead I thought I would go old school - anyone remember these ? Second lure I ever owned and mine was the same colour as this one - first lure was a wonder wobbler that I got from the fishing clinic at broken bay and caught my first fish on a lure (flounder) with it on my second cast from fitness camp beach - You could say I was hooked immediately 🤣 That reminds me I want to get a Halco wobbler ( same as a wonder wobbler ) to try on Salmon and tailor off the beach .
  14. Fishing the Hawkesbury was a classic ! I had a pile of videos by Mal Florence many years ago but once the VHS died they eventually got pegged out - some of the best sportfishing videos ever made. A River somewhere was also a gem of a show - one episode I recall was they were fishing for trout iirc and Tom decided to play the Harmonica around the campfire- Rob snatched this from him and hurled it into the bushes and sat down thinking that was the last he would ever hear of that , next night Tom pulls out the same Harmonica and starts again - this time though Rob doesn’t chuck it in the bushes he chucks it in the Fire 🤣. The ABC had some fantastic shows - The Bush Tucker man was another and I’m getting buried with my Bush Tucker man DVD’s 🤣 I have turned off to many Fishing shows on TV and many podcasts as they had become a competition to see which one can mention some sponsor the most in each show and I’m certain they are being paid a bonus every time they mention a sponsor . This imho was one of the best Fishing books ever written and it really gave me an insight into how Ron’s fishing mind worked and how good an Angler he really was . Ron also wrote one of the first decent books on depth sounders but as technology has marched on from those days the book is now outdated .
  15. I watched that until the VHS broke ! There was a whole series of videos under the “A Fisherman’s World “ title and another favourite in the series was the Rock hopper . Going for Gold ( Yellowfin Tuna) and Marlin off the rocks were also great videos to watch also . If you are into Bass and don’t mind a bit of reading the the Top of the list is a book called Bethune on Bass ( John Bethune was one of the founders of Fishing World Magazine along with Ron Calcutt) and that book has some fantastic stories in it ! Isn’t it nice to watch a show about fishing that isn’t one big add with a few fish thrown in to keep you interested !
  16. If you get up early tomorrow around 4am and call in to The Hi Tide programme on 2SM radio and ask Kieren or Alan to ask Lawrie McNally about Hat head and Mackerel fishing in the area , he is a ref fisho and retired commercial fisho who knows the area like the back of his hand - you will have to listen to the whole show for his answer though . I fished there 20 yrs ago but not for Spaniards and didn’t do any good but one thing I do remember was the Snakes - every campsite had a long handle shovel close at hand and I wondered why - next day I saw a couple of dead snakes hanging up and I realised it was to kill the snakes ! Don’t know what it is like now but if you do go up there be careful ! That old Video was made 40 yrs ago and a lot has changed since then and the High speed spinning fad Hassan far as I can see mostly faded away . If I were to go up there today and try for a Spaniard I would float out a big live bait under a ballon , you cover more options that way as you never know what is cruising by - could be Mackerel , could be a Cobia or it could be a Marlin .
  17. You could try this stuff available at Bunnings- can’t vouch for it as I have never used it . Or try Nans tarps at lidcombe they may be able to advise on a better product , also places that sell caravans and camper vans or parts for them . Also as it is just a silicone spray you could try the stuff they put on tyres like tyre shine- it is just silicone spray and you can buy it cheap from places like supacheap . Your boat shouldn’t fill with water as you should be leaving the bungs out and Jack the front ( Bow ) up so it is higher than the rear (transom)and the water will drain out through the bung holes .
  18. Yep just seen that and thanks for doing so , I may have seen it but not linked it to Scratchie at the time . I think Scratchie , Shroom and Swordie need to do a fishing trip together and make a YouTube video of it - would be a fantastic video imho!
  19. Thanks for the link Donna ! I may have listened to it already - can’t remember but I will definitely be listening to it next week !
  20. Shroom has joined a pretty exclusive group - Greg doesn’t let just anyone come on to his show and he checks out their credentials pretty’s thoroughly before inviting them on . I’m looking forward to listening to this but will save it for the week a head -I like to listen to it in the truck ! Congratulations Peter and BTW fantastic Mulloway on lure in your last YouTube video !
  21. Nice catch mate ! A bit of wind is a good thing , glassed out conditions are usually less productive as the fish become timid and as you could fish with it at your back it should have helped with casting distance . Have you tried lures at the same spot ? I know of a guy up the north coast who fishes sugapen lures with assist hooks for whiting that are up on the flats . I could certainly massacre a feed of those right now !
