  1. Hi Craig SGFC have 10 boats fishing the Bill Heyward appologies from myself as i am port stephens bound this weekend as the current report's and SST data along with the weather looking the best it has for a while makes it to inviting to knock Port back.... hope you have a great tournie. Tight lines Warnie....
  2. Yea..Chris you've made me make my mind up...... i will start off with one outfit first and trial it and see how it goes for the season... guess we will be swapping thumb stories.....by end of season... soft super glue ?????? is that actually what its sold under or are you refering to a product similar in to... knot sense,...plattibond etc.... Cheers Warnie..
  3. Hi Chris.. i read with interest in regards to the 50's spooled with braid and top shotted with mono has i have been debating the idea for yonks now......we ourselves utilizise two fifty's for our stand up 37's and have gone down to the spool on more than enough occasion's now to become concerned i'm not sure how much 37kg mono pack's onto the spool....but whatever that amount may be it's not much weve adopted the attitude of late "if we cant stop it by the time it get's to the end of the spool it can have it"... but in all honesty its the wrong approach.... my stumbling block has allways been that connection point both for the fact of it letting go and been a weak point... and also concern when in getting to that stage in the fight were the knot is just going in and out the rollers of the rod in a stalemate situation at a time when the fish is not giving much away.... but by the sounds of things my concern is unwarranted as all seems to be going good for you and it seems a lot more game fisho's of late are adopting that method... is there any other advise that you can offer or pittfall's you have come across you can share for i have little doubt that i would of have ordered the braid and it will be well on it's way to me before you even of have had a chance to respond back to me..... Cheers Warnie.....
  4. Spongy...i have encountered fairly largish kings whilst fishing for marlin in close at differant times the slimies have all been bridaled through the nose as per standard game fish fare and hookup as been par for course this mind you is utilizing a circle hook this being the correct way to rig it... so as the hook is free off the bait to best achieve what its designed to do... by the sound of things im guessing a j hook is the prefered hook of choice by most and were placement in the bait wouldn't be as critical for effective hookup but stand to be corrected.... as mentioned with the knife jig another use for a knife jig is to connect one on the end of a slimey jig for a weight which is a popular method used by game fisho's in help getting the slimies to jump on the jig in deep water when there are being unco-operative..... Cheers Warnie..
  5. Hi Col it seems i was not alone with the staining and the sensus of conjecture was it is the same thing that causes tannin (think that's what is called) stain to the creeks after rain anyways 75% removed not much more to go........ with metho for some reason the thing that removes it the best no sign of it on the motors or prop which is good for.... just as well for i am gearing up for the upcoming tournies...and will be haveing a fish busy feb and march bar weather Cheers Warnie...
  6. Honestly...dont go through the exercise toss it in the bin and go and get your self some spectra... it,s anti rust friendly also, handles easy, sit's on the winch neatly a dream to handle and more importantly... won't decapitate your head if that swage your thinking of getting done and decides to let go Cheers Warnie...

    Slimies

Scott as a rule if you sound around the area smack in the middle of a line in between the end of north and south head and more so if there is a current edge pushing out the harbour evident...... you will find them tightly schooled up just of the bottom....locate them drop a jig down and jig them up.. these are the slimies that take steroids..... we grab them all the time for takeing out wide to the shelf and couldn't see the kingies turning there nose up at them if offered.... or at the very least it will be one worth talking about...... Cheers Warnie...
  8. Hey Col Am only speculating here but you know how they talk about the black death in heavy run off out the rivers with a fish kill... Well it was far short of that.... but blatantly obviuos that the delicate balance of the ocean had been affected which resulted in virtually everything vacating the area for greener pastures.... But this was no more evident to me more so when i got home and really cleaned and scrubbed the boat down.... when trying to remove the brown coating were the hull has been in contact with the water to my amazement even with truck wash and scrubbing jet blasting etc...i could not budge it upon closer inspection it looks as if the water from up there as acid etched the two pack paint on the hull... i have had to resort to using a cutting compound with a orbital buffer to make any impression on the paintwork and it's going to take a bit of elbow grease to bring her back to normal.. Have you col or anyone else come across it before?????? and i'm not talking about the usual diesel and oil residue you get whilst moored in harbour.... would appreciate any thought's...... Cheers Warnie....
  9. Yock...... quite an interesting concept but got agree with useing something a little less complicated But i do like the sound of of the percussion cap idea mentioned by bob....not for the fact of it going bang when being struck by a fish but more like the thought of that i could scare the bejesus out of anyone onboard who so happens to sneak a snooze whilst i'm not looking.. yes bob..... would be real interested in haveing a look at your secret stash goodness knows what else that will uncover that's long been forgotten about... And col.... now that you mentioned it i've just noticed it's raining sorry...... but after seeing this for the last 3 weeks i guess i was conditioned to it...i will put my hand up and take the blame for it i don't wish to be selfish and thought you might all like to see what you have been missing out on..........lol.... Cheers Warnie....
  10. Hi Yock You have me puzzled as to how the outrigger clip work's..??????? maybe in hand it's more obvious but from the pic i am scratching my head are you able you enlighten me further has to how it function's..... Got to love those markets especially up north were i have seen alvey winches quite often go for a pittance in comparison to there real value.. Cheers Warnie....
  11. Hey kevlacat.... i expect you will get years of untroubled usage out of the yammie good choice... one tip i would like to tell you is i have twin 115 yammies and were the tell tale exit's out the motor on mine i ended up pulling the tubing through the hole and with a cable tie i nipped the tube forming a u shape then put the plastic reducer back on the end this then shoots the tell tale vertical or at what ever angle you like this allows me to hear and see at a glance if the engine is running by the increased noise of the tell tale when hitting the water but more importantly in my case it allows me to trim my motors at the ramp up as high as possible at the same time allowing me to physically see that im still pumping water through the motor and is most helpfull at the ramp especially when it becomes an issue when not having much water under your props when putting the boat back on the trailer ... Cheers Warnie..
  12. Not a silly question at all johnno the 0-0-0- system is used in game fishing to register the boats account for that sked which generally are run over two hours... A typical scenario would be 2-2-1 that's signifying 2 strikes 2 hookup's and either the tag and release or capture of what species it was and only applies to that current sked till the end of the day collectively it could be added up to be a 5-5-3 tag and release of 2 striped and 1 black marlin for excample.... Cheers Warnie...
  13. Hi Jayse... Its sounding like there are a few starting to show there face around here by the sounds of things but were i have just come from up north at s.w.rocks it was very dissapointing to say the least after a week of surfing the big swells that was experianced up there and after when they finally had settled down we were subjected to the heavens opening with the end result in being the rivers spewing huge amounts of fresh muddy water into the ocean.... This effectivaly shut down almost all forms of fishing and even having an effect to as far out to the shelf were i can only guess this affected the fragile balance in the food chain as the normaly prolific bait at present is non existent along with what ever may be wanting to feed on them... and looks like it may need a further couple of weeks to recover The good news is there is a hell of a lot of floating items that will hop on the e.a.current and should prove a bonanza for those fishing for dollies that might likely reside with it.... for we are talking telegraph pole size items hopping a ride... here are two pics taken back towards the bar when crossing back in on saturday gone.......for those who know the area hopefully to show the colour of the water which is pushing substantially out wide... Cheers Warnie...
  14. Hi Clifford.. Just going through the finishing touches to the gear and tackle and finishing in loading up the boat in preperation for going up north tomorrow.....so if i can remember while i am away i will try and get some pic's illiustrating and touching on the area's you are not quite sure about.... although i'm not sure with what your not 100% on.......maybe it will highlight as you say "what not to do" tight lines boy's all have a good one while i am away.... Cheers Warnie....
  15. Hi Clifford In the meanwhile if you hear the fishing starting to ramp up with stripes being in the reckoning change tactic's to involve in putting two sweetened hookless lures set on the riggers with the two 30w's run in conjunction with a normal lure way out the back on the shotgun on one off the 24kg outfit's along with your assortment of teasers set in the wash.... next have Fishlexic primed and on battle stations with the remaining 24kg outfit at hand ready with a prepared garrie or slimey waiting......and when the next marlin turns up ready to eat something if either it end's up takeing the shottie or the classic scenario in that been Fishlexic simply dropping the skip bait back to the lit up aggresive marlin that has been teased to the point were it simply pounces on anything resembling a feed then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz will be the result.......fishlexic hooked up on 24kg and fighting.........sounds easy hey.......quite often in that given situation it can be.........at least you will be fully optimising and useing to your advantage the fight on 24kg gear... in helping to turn the tide your way.... just another option to give consideration to.......... along with the multitude of other mounting plan's you proberly have in mind...... Merry Xmas....Warnie..
  16. Hi clifford Quick get the writing pad out There is still time to put a xmas wish list together... "Please santa make that 5 tiagra 50 wides" I think maybe it's time to relegate the tld 30's to the backburner just for a while..... get some runs on the board and then start settling down with the lighter gear or if you are running at least one fifty on board then by the sounds of it run that on the shotgun it sounds like that is the one that seems to be the one getting nailed the most.... Cheers Warnie....

    Tuna Tubes

Hi arman... i have twin tuna tubes built into the back of the transom of the boat and the pump's that feed these tubes are a Johnson flexible impellar pump f4b-19 12/24 v DC In all honesty to get these tubes manufactered and installed cost me a small fortune where as the boat i had prior to the present one....that tuna tube consisted of a cut to length of 150 pvc sewer pipe with a funnell from the hardware inserted inside to capture and concentrate the flow through the bait's mouth and was just allowed to over flow into the motor well out the back nothing fancy about it .....this was fed via a rule 1100 gph pump in the identical fashion you would a live bait tank with the hose from the pump connected to the neck of the funnell standing proud after being inserted through the centre bottom cap on the inside of the tube.....as allready mentioned the inside is painted black which aids in keeping the bait calm.... a bye far cheaper and cruder version than say the one posted by daniel but just as effective all the same...... Cheers Warnie......
  18. So by that nudge.... Sound's like Pitchy bends the......" No undie rule on sunday" to apply to every day of the week. Warnie.....
  19. TRUE STORY.... Answered a distress call to a boat that was in danger of sinking.... upon arriving on the the scene The boat in question had sunk!!!!!!....(forgot to put the bung's in apperantly) The only recoverable item's besides the three fellas treading water and hanging onto a esky lid were a bunch of banana's marking the spot.... I made sure of well and truly chopping them up with the prop when leaving.... Warnie.....
  20. Hello all With the season fast approaching and tackle preparation complete i was wondering if any of you like me follow any superstitious trait's or uphold any daily ritual's to ensure the best of luck for the day.... The following are some we uphold on ungry through out the season... No bananna's to be brought on board which includes it in your nestles youghart for example.. we donate and flick a dollar coin to Huey on the way out.... Who ever is on strike is not allowed to lay down or snooze.. Who ever uses sunscreen is not allowed to handle the lures before washing there hands in tuna oil.. Who ever releases a drag on a reel with the feeble attempt to make someone strain there neck, jump up and smack there head, or fall off the chair makes the sandwiches for the day... who ever shout's marlin !!!!!when a dolphin swim's by has to give themselves an uppercut... And last but not least in tournament's we advocate......no undie sunday.... nothing to weird listed there.......does anyone have any of there own to add...... Cheers Warnie...
  21. If ever there was ever to be a section given on fishraider in voting for...... "The most tireless persistent fishraider duo of the year"..... you two would be a lay down mazare in knocking that one over.. the fishlexic and no regret's dinner table will be adorned with fine fish cusine once again.. Gee boy's your time is just around that corner and no one could say that's it's not through lack of trying or effort for the reason that the fish you are trying so hard for...... elludes you both.... more to the fact whilst there are some fish around and some are getting caught there remain's a fair amount of water in between them at present...but that situation is about to change very shortly and when it does i have no doubt that persistence you are showing at the moment will be pleasantly rewarded There will be a lot of yahooing.cheering.......backslapping and bootscooting happening on onboard the boat that day which i'm sure in the end will make the journey........oh so worth it!!!!!!! fine effort boy's...... Cheers Warnie...
  22. Sounds like you have put some thought into it there chris......so i'm sure if something is not to your likeing you will adopt another method that will be to your likeing....in my regards my bait tanks are 150 litres more than double the volume you are refering to so i figure 1100's would be par for course.....i guess i get a tad paronoid when a lot of time can be involved in getting bait to see it die due to insuficent exchange of water during the day or in the trip out......hence the faster and quicker i can replace the water more so the better is my way of thinking....but in fairness to you as i said i am not fishing for kingy's and most times the slimey's i'm refering to will be of the horse variety and they can be quite tempramental to any thing other than lot's of fresh clean water......Chris my concern in the pickup was not for the sealing as such in allowing water in....but more so for the possibility of running over something and ripping the pickup off the back of the boat due to a submerged object...ie; a floating log or a fish trap while being 20 mile out resulting in it being difficult to stem the ingress of water with it being below the water line i guess i would just have to carry a rubber stopper that i could belt in the hole if that were to arrise.... as i said just an outside mentality way of thinking in regards to a question of yes "but what if."....with some thing....... that on most account's will most likely never happen.....Hope you have it all up and running soon and you get amongst them with a vengence and hope to read all about it in the report's....... Cheers Warnie...
  23. Hi Mugen.. Just out of interest what was your reasoning behind doing it the way you have......as opposed to doing it the standard method say as Wildfish as shown....you have obviously put a fair bit of work into it.....and as i said was just interested why you went that way.... My main concern for you would have to lay in the pickup...Judgeing by the picture i would have to say that a fair volume of water would be forced up and through the pickup...particularly whilst underway... so would like to suggest replacing that clear tube for some high pressure hose and adding another clip to the fittings.....it is quite possible over the summer months the heat can soften the clear tube to the point were it might keep blowing off....i say this only as coming from an out wide fishing mentality.......that people like myself become very nervous with any thing that can allow water and worse still that can be forced fed into the hull more so if you were unable to see it happening.....i realise you are mainly fishing the harbour and as such is not as paramount.. but more for some one who might opt for the same set up and apply it to a boat and venture way out wide... Please don't take offence as none is intended as i can see your heart as gone into it.... Also after reading some of these posts i myself for example and i know i'm not fishing for king's................ but i do have bait tank's which are fed by rule 1100gph bait pump's i see the majority talk of useing the rule 500gph pump.... and other than a slightly bigger outlet hose the 1100gph pump fits the standard pickup bracket and was wondering why a bit more than double the volume of water into the live bait tank would not be of a benifite in helping in keeping the bait's refreshed and alive.....just a bit puzzled in that regard have i missed something or is there another reason.... Cheers Warnie...
  24. Daniel my sentaments exactly... i have no intention's of swapping at this point in time....untill i see the fishing report's full of people singing there praises to that effect.... i am prepared to just stick with a double hook rig..... set up in conjunction with tested and proven bunch of lures that i presently have faith in.... however i was very interested in trialing the hooks...... but after haveing a good look at them i have since thought otherwise the very tip of the hook just looks like it has a tendency to want to roll over a bit to far for my likeing so i am going to stand back on that one as well... i have no doubt that what is been marketed will sell well.... but at this point in time......i will pass on it Cheers Warnie....
