  1. Col..... Sure was living the high life in those weather conditions..... but out of my own 7.2 broadbill not on the "Broadbill"....... how ya going with that shoulder of yours ready to get back into it yet??????? Ps... Alex (black russian) having just had a second look at that 2nd pic of your stripe it looks as if the leader has wrapped it's self twice round the bill and picked the hook up in the process as opposed to being hooked in the mouth.... i bet that made him a bit fiesty....Was that the actual case there as you done well to stay connected ?????? Warnie....
  2. Hi Bob... Yes it can be a mongrel to get it to let go if you so happen to snag up on the mountain more so if you are to use as i do and that been 200lb braid... but also that's why i incorprate a sacrificial breakaway of 1mtr of 80lb at the sinker and 1 mtr of 150lb between the braid and the connection of the rig.. if that situation does arise then all you need do is. tighten up as much of the slack as possible and lock up on the deckwinch and the lifting of the boat in the swell is all that is required for it to break at where ever it is required to.....and presume that you incorporate something similar likewise?????...but after reading what you said possibiliy no...... when ever the bottom is to grab it like that normally suggests that you are laying it (the rig) on the bottom with slack line....i think you will find if you just make a slight adjustment in when first making contact when hitting the bottom by quickly winding it up 10 turns (approx 10 mtrs) then take up the slack then replace it back down to keep it in contact close to the bottom.... also helping it in being more vertically orientated.... more often than not at this stage is were it get's ripped back out of your hands..... but this time hopefully it wont be the bottom....so if thats not the way your don't it presently then give that a shot and see how you go.... Cheers Warnie....
  3. Craig.... Jeeze talking about cutting it fine !!!!!!!! calling your hooked up at 4.59 and 50 seconds i think it was well done all the same... the fishing sure sounded like it stepped up a cog or two for you boy's on sunday.....with the day providing some nice blues for some of the boats fishing that productive water.... as i thought it would be the case there were no shortages of the stories of the one that got away with most boats coming across at least one or two fish these being mostly stripes and with saturday turning on a weather day mostly reserved for the likes of fiji..... i'm sure you would agree for those of you that stayed on your boat at the club saturday night that the atmosphere was great......and bed when it came sure felt good... congratulations to black pete for the capture of these two good fish... and two pics for alex (black russian ) who had difficulty posting earlier and and while im at it two of my own ... and Cheers Warnie............
  4. Alex..... Are you having trouble putting up pic's ????????? i presume... when i get a chance later on i will have a look at what we fired off on the camera and post up... Warnie....
  5. As a rule any boat's with some thing to weigh will generally start to roll up from around 5.30 onwards... i think the last sched is around 5.10 as each boat give's there estimated ETA back... it soon get's around if anything note worthy is to be weighed..... Cheers Warnie.....
  6. Dandas... Sure could be every chance!!!!!!! i will make a few phone call's for you... as you can appreciate this close to the weekend commitment to crew is generally well in place but i'm sure some of the bigger boats may well be able to accomodate you... failing that why don't you turn up saturday night to watch the wiegh in maybe grab a feed or have a drink or two say and come and say hello......That invitation is open to all those who may be interested in Game fishing and or to watch the Fish been weighed in and is not restricted soley to just those that are participating in the weekend tournament...... Cheers Warnie...
  7. How ya going there nudge... who are you fishing on this weekend matey... Just out of interest to some of the newbies out there here is a pic of the marlin and jason the happy angler that i'm pretty sure took this tournie out last year (correct me if thats not right) anyways check out the gear it was caught on fairly basic at that 24kg line class and shall we call it one of them pink things as a lure... i feel confident there would of been some handy work done on the rod and nimble boat work in the bargain... but nothing special all the same that most of you don't allready run...well except maybe one or two... but it's not unreasonable to expect that you may come across this calibre of fish whilst you pull lures especially on or over the shelf...and paticularly this month off sydney... think's i might give my pink thingy a go this weekend... Cheers Warnie....

    Tow Vehicles

Pel... You reckon that bonehead's economy sound's poor... well you best stock up on caltex shares as you said for i get 270klm out of a full tank that's seventy five litres i think that translates poorly... yes i know im towing weight and i don't push her......she being a 4.2litre ford maverick 4wd but the truth is.... and ive tried a few let me tell you !!!!!!! i haven't come across a better tow vehicle that does it so easy as this one... but i pay the price at the bowser.... paticularly if i throw in 400 litres into the boat to boot... actually come to think of it!!!!!!!! never mind about you i think's i best get the caltex shares...... Cheers Warnie....
  9. Hi all... This weekend bring's with it the SGFC Peter Goadby Memorial Tournament.... a tournament that traditionaly is well patronised by trailer boat's.... of whom a high pecentage generally figure well in the resulting prizes This tournament need no introduction to those of us that are in the know... as well as incorporating the final round of central zone.... wondering who may be taking part in the proceeding's this weekend and with the weather at this stage looking like to be putting on a good show !!!!!! And the reports of fish out the front auger well also.... i am expecting the liquid refreshment. and the one that got away stories to be flowing thick and fast come saturday night....hope to see you all there on the night... Cheers Warnie....
  10. Rab's.... Thanks for your imput into this topic by discussing and throwing up results through trial and error's on the water how other can you learn better than reading about it through the likes of posting on here.... And then applying it straight into practise that's why i like to keep inviting comment's on such and getting informative answers back as you gave so as some of the newbies to the sport can gain valuable insight I have never tried the cats paw for my connection to the swivel the reason this been twofold... the first been i can't quite remember when it last happened but i don't think it will be the last time were i have caught a marlin and have noticed that one of the strands on the double has broken or let go for what ever the reason.... And when at a time were i was heavily involved with wind on leader's where we had a failure 9 times out of ten..... the finger was pointed at that paticular connection at the loop and the double...... the point i'm trying to get across i suppose is if it does fail's it leaves no chance........ the other option at least may give you half a chance...... maybe with that last blue of your's you made mention of it was just to be...... i know it won't make it hurt any less than it did but i reckon stay with what your doing.... Cheers Warnie.....
  11. Andy.... Firstly shame about you not staying connected to the stripe and i would like to know more about the circumstances involving the method was it on a lure or were you livebaiting for example... Yes to how you described finishing the plait... and keep on reading your bible as you wont get much better for you to be able to refer to.. I am interested to know why you feel the plait was the weak link... i say this for on reflection and when i think about it......... when it's got to the stage of a fight and the time as come for what ever the reason and the line is singing and pinging and every body on board start's to flinch and cringe.............the thought never enter's my mind off the plait letting go more so to either the line breaking or a crimp letting go..... so much is the confidence accredited to the plait and in fact i couldn't tell you when or if it ever has failed before some thing else has............ and would like to know from some of the other boy's on here were there thought's would lay... I suspect the other choice been the knot on the double to the swivel as the culprit i my self use a uni to achieve this connection... you ask if i run one????? would that be a double or a swivel which i would answer most definently yes to both.... I incorporate a 2 mtr double along with a 3 mtr leader on both my lures and traces for live baiting... i also use uv knot sense which i find great to use...i apply to both the start and in paticular the tag of the finish on the plait allowing me to trim the tag very close to the plait you will find this allow's the plait to run very smoothly through the roller's on the rod...but also elimlnates what can commonly happens in a plait were the plait elongates under stress and when recovered the start looks like it's starting to unravel and becoming untidy.... most likely from it originally not been plaited tight enough at the start...... The one good thing that comes out of loosing a fish is the fact of there being more questions asked than you have answers for but this is a valuable part of the learning curve and a process that we all need to go through and whilst it can be described and you can read all about it... it can't compare with actually experiancing first hand with your tackle with either the jubilation or dissapointment with which either of the two outcomes will apply...... also you said a uni with the braid doubled to the swivel by that am i presuming you are running braid as your main line then if that be so!!!!!!! start by getting rid of the braid and switch over to a good quality mono...... Cheers Warnie.....
  12. Katari... Most guy's i know choose the plait as the preferred option for doing there double in mono you mention your not happy with the tidiness would this be in the plaiting itself????? or the finishing off the plait..... plaiting the loose end back into its self finishes off neater than finishing with a series of half hitches although if you do finish in that way alternating the half hitches on opposite sides of themselves tidies it up heaps failing the above an application to the plait of..... plati bond or.knot sense or something similar on the market cover's everything up.....the obvious point there though is you have to be confident you are doing everything correctly in the first place........and if that is so then the finished plait would look very neat Cheers Warnie....
  13. Hi Yock... I am sure if not for the fact of you being solo the end result would of been quite differant.....bad luck in that regard but an eventfull day none the less. Cheers Warnie.....
  14. Hi Craig Marlin Magnet is that the electronic one.....it sends out a electronic pitch similar to distressed baitfish is that the one you are refering to ???????? or am i off on a different tangent.... Warnie.....
  15. Craig... Sure sounds like an eventfull weekend you had.... and coming across some nice fish in the bargain... the shotgun not releasing cleanly at the band is a bit disconcerning...... any ideas on the reason at all craig....... is the band twisting on its self back up the tag line and fouling not allowing the band to break????? as you are probarly aware the final central zone round is out of Sydney in a few weeks and traditionaly is highlighted by some good blues getting nailed and there will no doubt be some boats vying in trying to do so......hope you can make it to that one as it's one of the best on the calender... Cheers Warnie....

    Bait Tanks?

Hey nath... There is a plastics mob in wetherill park that carries them in various sizes colours etc some one on here will be able to back that up with a name and address as the name escapes me although it has been mentioned on here a few times in the last couple of months..... Cheers Warnie....
  17. No change Ant..... what you see is how i do the rig's with the exception of the bead which is pulled over the figure 8 sleeve concealing it......... Cheers Warnie....
  18. I guess if you don't ask you won't get to know the answer... but there must be something more in gamefishing than meets the eye.... for i have a new young fella fishing presently with me in his first season and he's quickly gained his nickname of "question's" ironically it started off as "Boofhead" for i kept confusing his name with some one else who has a similar name on the boat and the questions weren't flying as thick and fast then as they are now....... Cheers Warnie...
  19. I want to impress on that i don't hold no fault with the hook which was a 10/0 eagle claw el2004 i think thats the correct code light gauge may i add..... just as you were surprised with yours so was i with this... how can so much pressure be exerted on the hook to the extent to do that yet for the 130lb fluro carbon leader not to break or the crimp to let go before hand... im guessing there were other factors at play here... every time the fish shook his head he was working the hook he typically stuck his head out the water and windscreen wiped madly with water cascading every were then after what seemed ages in this time not moving more than 2trs i then could see the hook flailing in the air then reconnecting around the bill hence drove straight down on him...... the trace although wrapped around a dozen odd times easily pulled free but a half hitch?? knot ???? in the double had him securely held.............. cut it and away he went...all on 24kg sunset at that stage... i hope that sort of forms a mental picture of the event that unfolded Warnie....
  20. Boofhead...... The gamefish faternity use this system to denote the boats fishing proceeding's for the day whether socially fishing or in tournaments.. and only applies to the current sked were it restart's again for the next sked usually 2 hours apart The first number refer's to strikes the second number relates to hookup's.... and the last is the result of such..... For example if you were to have two hookup's and loose two marlin you would call then call that as 2-2-0 usually you name the species involved at the end of numbers upon at the end of day's end you collectivelly add them up to get your total ie.....which could read 5-5-4 the tag and release of 3 striped and 1 black marlin... Cheers Warnie.....
  21. It's good to of read the report's of late of raiders getting into the fish and especially the quality of the pic's that have been taken and posted.... However along with these good fortunes there will be as equally as many misfortunes here is one that eventuated for myself well almost..... shown is the trace and hook in the accompaning pic's which actually don't do it justice and is the result of a circle hook straightening happening on my last fishing trip out..... it was noticed during some jumps that the leader was wrapped around the fish's bill resulting in the fish being able to apply extra pressure on the hook via the leader every time it shook its head which at one stage it did so unrellently...... resulting in the hook straightening and dropping out unfortunently for the fish.. the head shakes along with the few line wrap's on it's bill allready... only served somehow for the pulled hook to form a half hitch securing the fish and allowing us to quickly move down on the fish and grab the trace were the trace had tightened to the point were it had to be cut free the fish showing no ill effect and swam straight off....... just illustrating one of the many things that can go wrong when fishing whether this be through tackle failure or by other mean's.... Cheers Warnie.....
  22. Clifford.... Tackle you have upgraded to is a lot more up to the task of what is asked of it and preperation of the terminal side of things is all sounding so much better and the results speak for them selves......Once again well done...... also forgot to mention of dont be afraid of going over the button if need be as this can make all the differance at times paticularly on some stubborn fish you will come across providing you know your drag is set correctly..... its all just a matter of having confidence in your tackle.... Warnie....
  23. Hi andy... i will send you a pm in the next day or so, has i have not long just got back from fishing up there i will send you all the info you require...to hopefully send you in the right direction.... Cheers Warnie...
  24. Hi clifford Firstly congrat's on your fish and as mentioned for a while now of it been only a matter of time in coming im curious to know what refinements to your methods or improvements to your tackle and positioning of your lures had any bearing on the capture.... namely was it on 24kg or a new outfit bought after recent dissapointing hookup's was this fish taken on your preferred lure???? what colour??? was it placed in the boats most consistent position obviously everything held together this time so what helped in contributeing to it.... long leader??? long double maybe a combination of both along with a wind on leader.....or maybe one or neither of the three i ask you these question's as you epitomise the person who obviously has had his fair share of low's with dissapointments through line breakages, tackle failures, wrong option's and the like in that learning curve that we all seem to go through and still do!!!!!!!....... it may help some of the newbies to the game gain a better understanding in the preperation that is required for it to all start falling in place correctly and help in getting it together.... Cheers Warnie....
  25. Sam........ keep your chin up and don't get disheartened..... just sit back and it will happen and most likely when you least expect it..... you still have plenty of prime time marlin fishing ahead of you yet before you will need to turn your thought's to tuna...... here is a tip!!!!!!!!!!!! ......toss a gold coin in the water on ya way out and those gamefishing god's will smile on you more favourably....... Cheers Warnie.....
