  1. 2 pages of confusing advice for something that is a very simple task.... The old cones can be easily removed with a flat blade screwdriver in the 2, 180 degree opposed slots present in nearly every hub. The new cones are easily driven in using the old cones (make sure the old cones go in the same way as the new cones or there will be no "lip" to knock out the old cones once the new cones are seated). Soft drifts and splinters and this, that, yarda yarda yarda is "theoretical talk". Its not practical. I have fitted hundreds and hundreds of bearing sets in customers trailers over the years using the above method. Never have I encountered a splinter or any issue. Should you feel the need to wear safety glasses, helmet, radiation suit etc etc then feel free..... Mate, its a simple job and disregard all the "dire warnings" given here. With regard to replacing bearing cones, of course you would as they typically come as pairs (cone and race). Hope this helps
  2. WTF I voted this afternoon and it was at 87%. Just voted again and it is down to 76% 520 votes yes. 1623 votes no. I think the greenies may be giving it a hammering. Refresh your page and go again, and again, and again. EDIT:- 7.45 pm. After refreshing, opening new tabs and voting again my vote has not been recorded. Presently at 76% 525 votes yes, 1630 votes no. In that short period that is 5 votes yes and 7 votes no. (71%) You guys had better do something. It looks like you have at 7.54pm it is 529 votes yes and 1651 votes no. (That's back to about 87% on last votes)
  3. I guess by the time the rod was put down and the photo taken the ripples had dissipated. (big word for a fisho) Unless yes, you guessed it, 'holy jumping jewfish Batman"- it's "Super Bass" All aside a great shot.
  4. Jam sandwiches get soggy and don't taste very nice. Difficult to light your cigarette and keep it lit. Spectacles have no wipers so vision becomes blurred. Boat fills up with water from rain, sh#t - have to bail out. Beer is diluted by effects of rain. Can't be bothered fishing cause fingers too bloody cold.
  5. Well done Byron, contribution second to none. Dry wit, anecdotes and your good humour is always a pleasure to read. Might be time for your autobiography. Will definately be a best seller. Thanks for the advice and compliments Look forward to your next 2000. Congrats, keep them coming. Cheers Carl
  6. Have you tried "Tent City" at Redfern?
  7. Nice haul of inkers. You're in the bush, there's firewood, you're hungry, you've got a nice fillet knife - say no more. Could always say you found it floating already dead Cheers
  8. Sensational stuff Ian, there's a few fat ones there. Great to see you and the family hook into some fish, albeit undersize. Still a bloody good achievement with the crappy weather and 2500+ anglers. How did the brother and his mates go?? The water level looks a little low, or is that normal? As always - your pictures tell a thousand words. Cheers Carl
  9. Virgin Blue have airfares starting at about $450.00. Boat, fuel, gear, accomodation free. What more do you want?

  11. Sarcasm aside, it will be, probably already is, your pride and joy. You and the will have many hours of pleasure from your rig. Take it step by step, as the purse strings allow. There is no need to rush these refurbishments. Go out a few times first and note down what changes, if any, that are required. Personally, I would remove the ply floor and put all my bits and pieces in these Nally 60litre type bins. Go out a few times more to ascertain what "add ons" you would like. You may then find you can add a "compartment", or storage area, or live bait tank, or underfloor fuel tank / esky, then put flooring to the area left. This may also provide a little more balance / balast, and improve the handling given the weight is more evenly distributed and the centre of balance becomes lower. Some marine carpet would go nicely on the floor also. A bit of a sand, prime and a nice 2K finish. Your boat will look a million bucks for a bit of well spent "petty cash" Good luck Cheers Mariner
  12. Amazing photos - you could call that for just about any place in the world. Well done Ray.
  13. Top shelf Hodgey, Don't know about you Roberta, but some of those sound familiar to me. Cheers Mariner
  14. Eastern Pomfred Schuettea scalaripinnis Steindachner The Eastern Pomfred can be recognised by its body shape and colouration. It is silvery with a yellow back. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins are yellow. It has a dark bar at the rear of the head. This species grows to 24 cm in length. It is often observed during the day in large schools under sheltered, rocky ledges. The Eastern Pomfred is recorded from coastal marine waters of central Queensland to southern New South Wales.
  15. Every Sunday morning Grandpa would take his 7-year old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some bonding time. Just he and his granddaughter. One particular Sunday however, he had a bad cold and really didn't feel like being up at all. Luckily, his wife came to the rescue and said that she would take their granddaughter out. When they returned, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs t o see her grandfather.. 'Well, did you enjoy your ride with Grandma?' 'Oh yes, PaPa the girl replied, and do you know what?' We didn't see a single dumb b*stard or lousy sh*t head anywhere we went today!
  16. Congrats on getting the job. Only problem is that the local Electricity authority has no money to buy fuel to run the generators. We have been experiencing load shedding for some months now. No need for charters, my boat will be available free and all gear supplied. Can you give me a price for a neon sign - PM me. Cheers Mariner
  17. Two women were sitting together, quietly.....
  18. Lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. Anyone manage to keep their foot going clockwise?
  19. Hi all, Yes I have been quite busy, it's that time of the year. I just opened a new pool room last Monday and it has been overwhelming with triple the patronage that I budgeted for. Have been working 18 hour days since then You were right Pel, I couldn't help myself with the container load of spare parts. There just happened to be enough space to fit in 12 pool tables. The Mariner is now sporting new props, rudders, skegs and shafts. The flybridge is back on and my carpenters are presently finishing the interior paneling. New fuel lines have also been fitted. I will try and get some pictures - when I get time - I haven't even had a chance to see it for a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that it will be in the water in another 2 or 3 weeks. Cheers Mariner Simon, you can email me on dreamtime@solomon.com.sb Zenman, this time of the year it's a little unstable due to the vast numbers of people in the capital. School has finished for the year so there are plenty of "bored" students lurking about. 2 nights ago we had our house stoned by a couple of drunkards. About 20 large rocks were dispatched at our house and cars. Fortunately only 1 of the 6 cars in the yard were damaged. Unfortunately the damage was quite severe with 2 of the windows, a mirror and a couple of body panels receiving damage. The police arrived about 20 minutes after the fact, but credit to them on arresting one of the culprits.
  20. This has really got me stumped!! Try this mystery quiz: http://www.milaadesign.com/wizardy.html
  21. Dear Walter: I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with our neighbour. I am 32, my husband is 34, and we have been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago, and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counselling and I'm afraid I can't get through to him anymore. Can you please help? Sincerely, Anne Dear Anne: A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburettor float chamber. I hope this helps. Walter
  22. This issue has been round before http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...showtopic=25591 " I was reading the July 2007 issue of Modern Fishing and came across the letter 'Lizard Lore', from a fellow reader (Anthony Willebrands-DL) and thought I may be able to provide a few answers in regards to the Flathead biology. I'm currently finishing my PHD through the centre for Fish and Fisheries Research at Murdoch University in Western Australia, in which I am investigating the biology of the Yellowtail Flathead and the Western Blue Groper and Blue Morwong. During this study of the Yellowtail Flathead, (Platycephalus endrachtensis), in the Swan river estuary in Perth, we found several characteristics that Anthony Willebrands and other fellow Flathead lovers may like to know. Even though the Yellowtail Flathead can not reach the extraordinary lengths and weights to that of the Dusky Flathead, it does share the same characteristics of females and males having markedly different growth rates. The females and males of the Yellowtail Flathead attain a maximum length of 615mm and 374mm respectively. If you were only to see this result , you could be forgiven for assuming that this species is a protandrous hermaphrodite( male and female sex change). However, we also found that both sexes are present at all age classes from a age of one year old to the maximum of 9 years, recorded for both sexes. Further investigation of the reproductive organs, overies and testes of Yellowtail flathead found no evidence of male and female reproductive tissue occurig together-a key indication of possible sex change. Our conclusion was that Yellowtail Flathead were dioecious ( Speparate sexes), with females and males possessing markedly different growth rates. In other studies of Flatheads in the genus Platycephalis, including the Dusky (P.fuscus), Southern blue-spotted Flathead(P.speculator), Sand Flathead (P.Bassensis), Tiger Flathead(P.richardsoni) and the bar tailed flathead(P.indicus), similar results of femailes attaining a larger size have been found. Furthermore, none of these scientific studies found any evidence of sex change in these species. The thought that Dusky Flathead may change sex may could have come about from literature describing the biology of other members of the Platcephalid family, including several species found in Japanese waters, such as the Lizard Flathead(Inegocia japonica). They do change sex from male to female. In species where the large fish are females not just in Flathead, it is imperative that we try to protect these large fish because it is these individuals that have the greatest reproductive output; they are able to produce hundreds of thousands or even millions of eggs. To think that these large Dusky Flatheads are barren is not correct. Kind Regards Pete C. Peter Coulson, Centre for Fish and Fisheries Research , South St. Murdoch, WA 6150.

    Uss New York

USS New York It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Centre . It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft. Steel from the World Trade Centre was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the moulds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.' Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade centre steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.' The ship's motto? 'Never Forget' Can't seem to post up pics of her - Mods (Global space left: 0bytes?)
