  1. G'day Inhlanzi, shame about the river not fishing so well this season. Truth is we are overdue for a bad season because the last three or four have been unbelievable. Big jew were too easy to come by and we were all getting way too cocky Last season we got 8 good fish (smallest 12kg) from nine trips. The year before was even better. Everyone was nailing them with monotonous regularity. It was just too easy and we got spoilt badly. This year we are one from one and might decide to quit whilst ahead. With any luck things will improve but it should've been firing on all cylinders by now. Oh well, there's always next season. Luckily there are other species well worth targetting Regards Red
  2. Don't worry Rooster. They cannot win this time . The Aussie worker has smartened up and caught on to this evil old dictator and his relentless scare campaigns. And what about the Lindsay leaflet scandal? Have you ever seen anything so evil? Here's hoping these racist dirty fools do time in jail. Criminals deserve nothing less and what they did is indeed criminal. Then there's Costello, Abbott, Downer and Anderson. These libs are slimier than the ocean's entire population of mackerel . This lot make used car salesmen look like angels . Yes i'm excited and counting my chickens before they've hatched so i'd like to get in early and say "Farewell Jonnie". Hope you lose your seat too Regards Red
  3. Roberta, i'm sorry to hear this sad news. Regards Red
  4. I'm a working Australian and would be prepared to give up my passion "fishing" just to give that dictator Jonny Howard the fair dismissal he deserves. May he get humiliated at the coming election. He deserves nothing less. He scares the daylights out of the braindead people with his 17% interest garbage. When we had 17%, America had 15%. The whole world had high interest rates. Does this horrible lying bast@rd expect us to believe he would've kept interest rates low in that climate??? PLEASE! Then there's his I.R. dream. An absolute insult to me and my children. To dismantle the conditions we fought long and hard for is insulting to say the least. Who could forget this dictator threatening the attendees of the I.R. rally with a $22,000 fine. I will never forget this horrible man and pray for working Australians to wake up before they work saturdays and sundays with no penalties, no leave loading, no RDO's and worst of all.....less pay! Cheers Red
  5. I suppose it depends where you do your trolling and the size of fish you are likely to come across. I wouldn't be trolling big fish haunts such as the Hawkesbury Road/Rail Bridges with 6-14lb line. There's simply no future in that Cheers Red
  6. A fair price is around $150. Thats what i paid for mine and it was mint in the box. Its a used item with old technology and unfortunately not appealing to collectors. These days the new Shimanos are very well priced and people would prefer to buy new and get their 10yr warranty. Regards Red
  7. You're probably right mate. You often here south coast fishos talk about the 2nd drop etc I'm sure you'll do well in the comp. You just got to keep an eye on those "Reel Quick" lads Regards Red
  8. Robbie, thats a fair price assuming you got the drag upgrade, the Stella handle and the extra ball bearing? The upgraded Spheros is capable of almost anything in our waters A much better choice than the good old baitrunner. Cheers Red
  9. All good advice. Buy the best you can afford, preferably 1kw as a minimum. Tabsy, i always thought the shelf line was 100 fathoms Good luck at the Whitesands mate. What are you targetting? Regards Red
  10. Spheros all the way. It has a metal body for a start and has a little more speed for your lure casting. Baitrunner is a good reel but not for heavy braid. It flexes way too much for my liking. Cheers Red
  11. A 10ft Silstar Traverse-X if you can find one Red
  12. we are all guilty of hijacking from time to time however your effort was very informative I certainly won't be buying those squidgie jigs.....not at that price. Jewhunter, a photo of this incident would've been nice in the photo album. I still giggle like a schoolgirl when i think about it It all happened too quickly with no chance of ducking out of the way. Cheers Red
  13. Mate, the harbour is not my home ground. Haven't squidded there for more than 7 years. Hopefully other members can come to the rescue. I've caught them in the past at Middle Head, Manly, Quarantine Head and Shack Bay. Hope this helps. Cheers Red
  14. Its odd how almost every undersized fish destined for release ends up being so well hooked Why is that? Cheers Red
  15. Roosterman, where my squidding is done, i'd be lucky to come across 2 Arrows a year. Perhaps the size of my jigs scare them off however i don't think they live in clear water kelp beds. I don't particularly like Arrows as a bait, especially for jewfish. Others may love them and thats the beauty of fishing. The southerns are the go in my opinion and i love targetting them, especially the large models. You get about 7 good baits from a real big southern . Cheers Red
  16. Wildfish, lucky no one was around to witness this. It was a humiliating moment I've squidded for years and never been nailed with such precision . Anyhow, tipped a bucket of water over my melon and wiped myself with a rag. Thought all of it was gone until i got home and looked in the mirror My right ear, inside and out was totally black Pissed myself laughing Guess which squid is going to end up in strips first Cheers Red
  17. Well done Roosterman The treble stinger increases hookups for sure. Unfortunately they can get messy when trying to release undersized kings. I've released one that never looked like it was going to make it. Its shaping up to be a great season Cheers Red
  18. Dave, i was in a boat, trying to get out of the wind. Was casting quite close to shore. Only had two colours onboard, yellow/pink and brown/orange. Both jigs did the damage. One of the big buggers lined me up good and proper and didn't miss his mark getting me in the head with considerable force from close range Lucky i had sunnies on Cheers Red
  19. Hi Raiders, Had some free time so went out gathering bait. It was now midday when i arrived at Yarra Bay hoping to nail 3 or 4 nice ones however somehow managed my bag limit of 20 calamari in an hour or so. The buggers ranged from tiddlers to monsters with 42cm hoods and went crazy for the new Duel Pheromone Skin jig in size 4.0 The usual jigs received little attention and were given their marching orders on the spot . Needless to say i'm a happy chappy with some fresh stocks in the freezer, bagged up and ready to feed to a jewfish or two. Now just got to keep them away from the good wife who has other ideas Cheers Red
  20. Thats gold I have done the painfully boring Blue-eye drop only once and that was enough. Suprised it took you 10 trips Roscoe Getting bashed for 20 miles in a trailerboat is not much fun at the best of times. These days i'd much rather feed a floater to a red or even gather calamari for bait. Must be getting old Cheers Red

    Reel

Noah, on your budget i'd look at buying a quality 2nd hand reel. Jordy is currently selling some reels in the Swap and Sell section at great prices. A Tekota 800 for $140 and a Speedmaster for $100. Can't go wrong with those prices. I bought his Calcutta 50XT and it is immaculate, as advertised. Well worth a look in my view. Cheers Red
  22. Nice jew mate. Well done . Cheers Red
  23. The Duel Pheromone Skin jigs kick butt but at $28 they are pricey. I really like them in size 4.0 as they are of good casting weight and squid of all sizes will pounce on them, even those annoying little buggers . Been using them for a good 6 months now and would recommend them to anyone. Cheers Red
  24. "Currently top speed is around 33knots at 3200rpm" Mate, i'm not sure if your tacho is reading properly. 33knots at 3200rpm sounds a bit over the top for a 70hp motor on a glass rig? Cheers Red
