  1. So sorry for your loss, Neil. May you always have fond memories.
  2. Great report and congratulations, Poppy! 🥳 As for the “best catch ever”, that capture would have been in the Landbased Game section, I guess?
  3. Separate containers/bags for each colour.
  4. Great report, Donna! I felt like I was there. 😎 “Raiders ALWAYS catch hairtail”? I bet I could dispel that myth! 😂

Found this in an an article re BRP from October 2019: “Project Ghost, by contrast, will try to provide more usable space on outboard boats by hiding the engines. The goal, Crocker said, is “to deliver a better boating experience by designing an integrated outboard engine and boat product for consumers delivered from the factory.” The webcast shows two pontoons with Ghost engines that are integrated into the stern area. It also showed a Quintrex boat with the same type of engine configuration.“

BRP’s statement said that they will now be focussing On “the next generation of propulsion”. I was told that this concept is called “ghost propulsion”. Curious what that is. Also, I suppose down track someone’s bound to explore large viable electric boat motors... 🤔
  7. I used a dry rub. But then I decided to do a little glaze as well and baste it occasionally with a mop and bucket. First time I’ve done a brisket. Bit worried it’ll be too dry. Cooked a lot quicker than I intended. 🤷‍♂️ Damn thermometer on the smoker’s all over the place!😡 Need to upgrade and get one I can calibrate! Shoulda gone fishing instead! 😂
  8. It’s magic weather today. Would have been fantastic to be out there. At least you got a few. 😎 Me? I got a request for a smoked brisket. Hope it’s ready for dinner time! 🤷‍♂️😂

Yes, it came up in my Facebook feed this morning. I’m in a group of obviously staunch ETEC lovers. They are not happy! It would be a concern for parts and servicing, as well as resale values Of motor and boat. I can’t afford to replace my rig anyway. 🤷‍♂️😢 http://news.brp.com/news-releases/news-release-details/brp-advances-marine-strategy-focusing-boats-and-new-technologies
  10. Yeah, I knew that! I just had a window, you know and felt like a walk. 🤷‍♂️
  11. Lol. I tried there this afternoon and kept getting hung up on weed! 🤷‍♂️😂
  12. An interesting video from the DPI about the creation of oyster reefs in Port Stephens.
  13. I personally prefer the old light blue of the 2018 theme. Very calming! Hence I never changed to the 2019 theme. However, not having the banners there is good. I was always clicking on them by mistake - FFS (fat finger syndrome)!
  14. I’ve still got a few. I used them last year in the bottom of a paternoster and got a few flathead plus other assorted species. I also used them weightless just on a hook and got a few flatties on the drift. Haven’t really fished them actively though. They do seem to move through the water well, though.
  15. Yeah, near where I live. Your Dad threw me when he said, “but Shoal Bay renown for big flatty”. 😂 Good all along there. 😎
  16. Ahh, I see... one of those reports where the location is sort of! 😂 Corlette, Shoal Bay, near enough! 😂 A bit like some of the tackle shop reports, e.g. “Dooley had a good session on the luderick at Cemetery Point”. 😂😂 A great effort anyway. 😎
  17. The article says the ship was 73km SE of Sydney when the incident occurred but they travelled north and were off Seal Rocks this evening. Let’s hope the clean up happens a lot quicker than the last one and the Singapore registered vessel/company pays for it. They only just finished the cleanup of the last incident off Port Stephens two years ago!
  18. Well done Scratchie Junior! 😎 Looks like you were down near the end of my street. I should do more of that myself!
  19. Me either but I wouldn’t mind removing the guts etc that way and doing the rest at home. Always seems a shame to throw so much to the pelicans!
  20. It’s happened again. This happened this morning 73 kms south of Sydney. Be careful out there. https://www.newcastleherald.com.au/story/6767720/cargo-ship-loses-at-least-40-containers-off-nsw-coast/
  21. I’m just watching Masterchef and there is a guest chef on, Josh(?) Niland, who just demonstrated a method of butchering a kingfish to get the most out of it. It was fascinating! He scaled the fish by cutting the scales off the skin with the blade of a knife. He keeps the scales. Then he showed a method of removing the guts without cutting the belly open. Then he cut a tail shank, a couple of cutlets, a 4 point rack, 2 point racks or devil’s cutlets, a huge butterflied belly flap, a nice fillet (perfect for sashimi), the cheeks and the head (split in 2). Fascinating. It will be interesting to see what the contestants do with the cuts they choose.. I’ll try and watch the demo online tomorrow and see if I can post the link. Definitely worth trying!
  22. Thanks KC. Yes, the same one I poached on Friday. Having read a few recipes, I poached it for around 30 mins. Obviously not long enough, although the slivers I cut off the top end of a couple of tentacles seemed tender enough. I managed it OK, the wife struggled with some and the dog loved what she left! I’ll try your “pinch test” next time and definitely poach for longer. I was happy with the stock I produced - I even drank a cup of it! Hopefully next time the wind won’t be blowing so hard and I can fire up the charcoal grill for a good charring. 🙏
  23. Salt Away costs about $59 for a quart (946ml). 1 litre of concentrate makes 500 litres. I use the dispenser between the hose and the earmuffs and I think it takes about 90ml, maybe less. It does the engine flush and generally the full boat wash down including trailer as well as my rods and reels. So, works out about $6 a trip. I could use less by washing the boat (tinny) and trailer with detergent (and I do sometimes) but using Salt Away on the hose makes it quick and simple. I like simple.
  24. I tried this tonight, Thai style. The marinade/sauce was amazing! I had a bit of trouble getting the BBQ hot enough in the wind and I didn’t manage to get the octopus legs tender enough. 🤷‍♂️ The head was OK though. Still, the flavour was fantastic! 😋 I will definitely try this again, maybe with a kiwi fruit tenderiser. Thanks KC! 🙏
  25. Yes, Yowie, in hindsight maybe I should have kept them but I couldn’t really be bothered filleting and deboning them (the only way certain family members will eat them) as I was really cold and wet and wanted to get home. The missus said, “Two octopuses?! After all that time out on the water?!” I was going to reply, “I wanted to come home with something different this time, like a big snapper or tuna. I guess octopus is different.” But I thought better of it. I was also going to say, “The correct plural of octopus is octopi.” But again, I thought better of it. 🤷‍♂️ 😂
