  1. Good on you for getting up there, Rick. I bet you were glad there was no one on that mooring at Providence! 😎
  2. Looks great, Jeff! One day, I’ll get one big enough to mount!
  3. It was just on Channel 7 news, Scratchie. Apparently they’re going to release it near Barangaroo/Pyrmont.
  4. I don’t use a swivel. I just run the sinker (if needed) straight to the hook. I often prefer to fish mono straight through but if you’re using braid, tie the leader on with a FG knot. Never had much of an issue with line twist... cast up current, maintain contact by winding in the slack as it comes back towards you then wind in at your getting rather than back against the current. Or, walk along the wall with it. 😉
  5. No sinker or just a pea sized sinker straight to the hook and about 4lb leader is the way to go for those bream. 😉
  6. Have a look at the LifeActive Quickmount Bike and Bar Mount by LifeProof. I use one on the grab rail of my side console. It comes with a little magnetic thing that sticks to the back of your case. This locks in securely to the holder and is quickly released with a flick of the lever and a twist. The same fitting fits the suction cup window clamp and a belt clamp, among others.
  7. Bananas give off a gas as they ripen that can ripen other fruit and veges stored with it too quickly and spoil it. So does avocado. I hadn’t heard about bananas being carried on lower quality boats and thus more likely to be shipwrecked or whatever but it’s plausible. Possibly goes back further than that, though, when bananas were stored onboard with other produce and it went off and the crew got sick, so then they started carrying bananas in separate, cheaper boats? My wife loves bananas. She doesn’t fish with me often but when she does, she sometimes brings a banana or two. It doesn’t seem to affect her fishing though, as she’ll often out fish me on the day! 🤷‍♂️Of course, I claim that I’ve focussed on putting her onto fish as it’s not all about me! 😂 I only let her bring bananas aboard in the Bay, though, not offshore, just in case of a banana generated breakdown! 😂
  8. Nice blue spot flathead... gotta be happy with that! 😎 And, yes, that’s a nannygai. I haven’t seen one for ages. I like eating them and they make great Thai fish cakes. 😋
  9. I use a bottom ship jig on the bottom of a paternoster rig instead of a snapper lead, then two baited hooks above that. Sometimes I use a plastic on one hook rather than bait - a jig hook with no head seems to work best. Often get triple hook ups.
  10. Great stuff, Jon! Glad you got amongst them!
  11. She may just have, Donna, but I did not choose “chores”. I got a surprise SMS from Scratchie at 9am on the Sunday for a 10am breakfast and we had already booked the restaurant for our long overdue brunch date together and we were about to head out. It is rare for us to get a day off together, so it was important to my wife that we made this happen. We also don’t like to cancel bookings on the small businesses we are trying to support. If I’d had earlier notice, I could have juggled things around. 🤷‍♂️ Sorry I missed seeing you but thanks for a great report! 😎
  12. Yes, a pontoon would be helpful... especially for those of us who launch and retrieve solo!
  13. If you’re going to put the boat on the lawn there’s not much point in having lawn there, is there?
  14. I had a similar problem at my old place in Sydney, although double garage. Very steep driveway that flattened out at the top. I used to drive up into the garage, then unhooked the trailer and push the trailer around onto the dirt. I eventually had a concrete slab poured off to the side, which made it a lot easier. It became harder when I upgraded to the bigger boat and I fitted a ratchet jockey wheel and moved it that way. An electric jockey wheel would be better but the ratchet wheel was manageable.
  15. Lift all the chain with anchor and lower it while leaning out a little. It shows this in some of the videos. On retrieval, same thing but in reverse.
  16. Thanks for that @kingie chaser. Food for thought (pun intended). I often come home with slimies still in good condition I the live bait tank. I usually salt and freeze them for bait. I’m definitely going to try cooking them next time. I’ve always meant to try smoking them but I never get around to it. I might try something on my new charcoal grill. 😋
  17. There is a local glass company in Port Stephens and the owners are obviously Irish as the Irish flag is painted on their van. The rego plate is CRAICD.
  18. I had an on-site van at Wisemans for about 4 years. Fishing was definitely better in the warmer months but it often depended on the salinity. An old rule of thumb was if the jellyfish were about it was salty enough. Having said that, my van was in a ski park and I didn’t ski, so I’d fish year round. Could usually manage bream and the odd flathead in winter and the occasional small jew. Too many catfish, though! Can’t help much re land based though as I fished from a boat except for the odd session off the jetty at the park. Fish the tide changes because the current really races along. Peeled prawns seemed to work best.
  19. Great idea, Ron! I’m going to make one of these myself! 😎
  20. Poor Ron! He’s posted a tip for a home made tool in aluminium and the thread’s gone way off topic ad nauseum. I think you guys need to go fishing or at least watch Netflix and chill! 😂
  21. My son had ZZ22TU on his last Nissan Silvia (a S15 / 200SX). Apparently the sound the turbo makes on boost. He let the plates go when it was written off (not on the road - it rolled down the driveway 😂) and now he’s got another Silvia (this time a S14 / 180SX), he wishes he still had them. They were apparently snapped up and are now on a VL(?) Commodore.
  22. I was thinking something entirely different but then sometimes I have a sick mind. It might have made sense on a Renault, where 10F meant 10 francs.
  23. I just wanted to say, “Nice little innovation, Ron” @campr. You provoked a lot of discussion worthy of a metallurgists’ convention! 😂 Me? I can’t remember the last time I used an anchor... I just use Spot Lock on my Minn Kota if I want to sit in one spot. 🤷‍♂️ However, I might knock one of these tools up just in case.
