mrsswordfisherman
You may have missed me @mrsswordfishermanand @Scratchie from the forum recently. I went for an emergency decompression of nerves in my lower back and had operation yesterday. Please look after your backs raiders. Apart from other medical conditions I was a manual handling trainer for nurses in the 70’s and 80’s. We used to physically lift patients and there were no wonder hoists or equipment back then. I had left mod team in charge and the Jeff sent me pics of his little bloke Cruz. Dislocation of ankle and fractures of tib and fib. Oh boy brave child. Here are some action shots of us Lucky we have our trusty smartphones mrsswordie at her worst! Cruz has some very special messages. I am sure Jeff will post

Scratchie
Well........ wow, what a drain the last 7 days have been! Spent 4 days in Port Macquarie with 3 of my kids all competing at State Cup for touch football, only to be rained out and pretty much cabin bound. Came home and the young fella bought a new car and then we were back into kids sport! Tuesday came round and I knew @mrsswordfishermanwas having an operation so I sent her a message wishing her well. Then off to another rugby league trial for my youngest to make Hunter RL. At this trial he had already made the team but in the last game of the day, he went out to help the others, which proved tragic. He ended up breaking both his tib and fib and dislocated his ankle. It looked surreal. But the support he got from his coach and the rugby league community has been overwhelming. Whilst laying there his club coach came over and was so upset he thought he needed to do something to lift him up! What proceed has been overwhelming for my son! Messages from...... Jordan Rikki, Isaac Luke, Kenny Bromwich, Benji Marshall, James Fisher-Harris and also one of our own fishraiders that plays for the Newcastle Jets! Back home now and all is very quiet! Hope it stays that way for a week! cheers scratchie!!!

Green Hornet
I hope your op is a success Donna and you're back on your feet soon. I was a builder and had to retire early due to a worn out back, so I know how debilitating it can be. Scratchie, hopefully your young fella bounces back quick as well and gets back into the game soon.

Yowie
Donna, hope you are on the mend, and Swordie is looking after you. 😂. We can only hope that he is, and not out fishing. Jeff, hope the youg bloke is getting better, though it will take some time. Is he Scratchie Junior, Scratchie Junior Junior, or Scratchie Junior Junior Junior? As for me, I have a small fracture in the femur, left leg, on the inside of the knuckle just above the knee. An impaction fracture, probably caused by jumping off the fence at home (do it often after pruning/spraying my fruit trees by walking along the brick wall then jumping off) Bouncing around in a rocky boat and jumping about in the surf does not help. The specialist said I am too old to be jumping off fences now. Also twisted the ligaments behind the same knee in the surf early this year. Taking time to heal, cannot sit down and do nothing, some exercises I normally do have to be shelved for a while. The main problem is I have not been fishing for 4 weeks. 🤪 Dave. 1

I do core excersize at home, planking mostly with bit of sit ups, bicep arm curls with 10kg, squats holding the 10kg, as my back is f...d , and just simple back core excersize makes a BIG difference. I'm a heck of a lot more mobile with 5 mins a day. I've started an exercise regime too Dave. Twice a day I jump to conclusions. Nearly killing me. Cheers, bn

jeffb5.8
Good luck with the recovery Donna, is it true Nurses make the best patients? My Mum was a nurse and then a nursing unit manager at Concord Hospital and I'm pretty sure she would try and sort out issues whenever she was a patient, even 30yrs later. Not sure the young Nurses appreciated her input. Hey Scratchie Hope the young fellow recovers well, We just went through a similar injury with our 8yr old, Xmas day on the trampoline, he Fractured his Tibia through the growth plate and small tear in the ligament of the ankle, He did 6 weeks in a cast over Summer school holidays and then 4 weeks in a moon boot. Back to the specialist on Monday and starts the long road with physio. Hardest part with our young one and probably yours, Master 8 is always on the go, Swimming, bikes, soccer, football or skateboard, so he really struggled not swimming or doing sport.
Steve-o
I also started getting back in to exercising because I want to do a nine day hike, did a two hour practice run and realised I was way out of condition and was never going to be able to go up and down hills carrying the weight of nine days of gear in a backpack. Ten years ago I was the fittest person I'd ever met but now I am a bitter dissapointment. The plan is heavy weights on legs, back, chest, arms, shoulders until mid-late spring with a calorie surplus for strength gains, then a month of cardio to get the fitness back and burn the fat gained and off I go. Cardio stops you building muscle at the optimum rate. Hope you guys get better soon.

Oh Dave that must be painful too. Just do as you are told!!! We are all getting older and we don’t like it. Swordie has not been fishing and has to look after me for a while now 👍 42 minutes ago, jeffb5.8 said: Good luck with the recovery Donna, is it true Nurses make the best patients? Green Hornet
Good to see you up and around Donna. Hopefully you do get out on Saturday. As necessary as they are, hospitals aren't nice places to stay for a few days.

Scratchie
Thank you everyone for the well wishes for Cruz. He definitely has a long road to recovery. But he’s home now and on the Xbox playing games and watching footy! I’ll give him two days before the frustration sets in! Lol 😝 He’s definitely been given some inspiration from a few NRL players to get him motivated. Fingers crossed all goes well. cheers scratchie!!!

Just getting off track for a minute, its a pity the media can't broadcast the good things like this that many NRL players do for the community, instead of the crap and scandal from a small minority. 1
