When fishing shows change for the worse

Hi Raiders

Ok things always change over time, fishing shows are no different whether on YouTube, streaming services or free to air tv. Some shows have improved while others have evolved and are not your cup of tea anymore. So what’s the show or YouTube channel that you don’t watch anymore?

My contribution is Timmy the Turtle who has moved away from his early videos which chased fish in his local waterways towards a glossy well sponsored productions. It looks as though he has two channels now as well.

I agree on the Timmy turtle, definitely lost ot for me

There's a few youtubers I watch regularly

Andy's fishing, Sammy hitzke are the main 2

Occasionally I watch Luiben Pffeifer and Hawksey but they can get a little repetative

I don't watch any fishing shows at all now, they are all just one big add, and some "celebrity" using gear, telling everyone how fabulous it is, and you cant catch fish without it, all fishing in some location, guided by professionals but making it look like fish are lining up to be caught.

They are all the same as @noelmSaid.It doesn’t make a difference wether it’s fishing, camping or 4wd shows you need Shimano this,Arb that,Jayco this…. You spend 90% of the show watching the zoomed in shot of the reel their using,or the different brand names of the products they are trying to flog to the idiots that watch them shows.

This idiot hasn’t watched any of them for years now.

I think I watched a couple of get away episode’s years ago and Rex hunt. That was enough nonsense to last a life time.

I have seen the current rubbish flicking past channel flicking.

On YouTube:

Shroom, KMS , Golden hour , spikes fishing , sticky fishy fishing, let’s go fishing , the hook and the cook / Scotty’s fishing adventures, Alex Bellissimo, al Mcglashan, Chris Bamman , Crebos fishing , Dave Sheldon fishing  ,flick with mick , riveRecon, sand flat fishing Australia, tackle tactics and Roger Osborne .

TV

fishing addiction , step outside , the fishing show and sometimes a few of the offerings from NZ and hook line and sinker ( if I’m bored enough ) .

Radio / podcasts :

Hi Tide , The big fish and Doc lures .

I can’t watch shows like ET , IFISH or Reel action because they spend more time trying to ram some sponsors name down your throat than explaining what they are doing  ! I watched one of these shows once and counted the amount of times they mentioned one particular sponsor( retail tackle / camping / boat shop ) and gave up around the twenty mark - every second word that dribbled out of their mouth was this sponsors name 🤮.

I know some of the shows I have mentioned that I do watch are also sponsored but they don’t drown you in it as much and one is somewhat politically based but I’m used to that show being like that after nearly 30 yrs of listening to it - not sure how much longer it will keep going though

To add another YouTube channel to the list - Roger Osborne does some great videos on beach fishing .

That’s what drove me away from Timmy Turtle

Have you tried Windsor bait and tackle, Nevs fishing, Ricky D or Josh D fishing on YouTube? They are not professionally guided and have a somewhat organic presentation

On YouTube there are a few more genuine options than the rubbish on free to air tv.

Like with many things, the need to make a buck has ruined most TV fishing shows. They are no longer a joy to watch because of commercialisation. So be it, if that's the path they choose to travel.

I find myself watching more YouTube presentations done by "amateur" anglers. People just like you and I, who enjoy fishing and don't have "monetary obligations" to meet. Sure there's a level of egoism involved, but we should all be proud of the things which we can do well. Moreover, we should share our unique capabilities with others... a bit like education used to be like. More experienced people teaching those who have room for improvement.

Shroom presents what I consider to be a well balanced type of video. He demonstrates his knowledge and skill, using many types of lure, in a "personal way". What I mean by that is that he uses his PERSONALITY, determination and technical knowledge to produce a product which is simply "a look over his shoulder". There are many good amateur presenters who I enjoy watching. Fortunately, I like many types of fishing...so I am probably, easily pleased.

I record it and play it when I’m fiddling around in my workshop , they have always been involved with horse racing because they originated on a radio station that is the station you listen to for the races .

I rarely watch any, like most comments on here, the shows are all about sponsors with celebratory anglers taken to spots where its made out to be the fishing is so easy if you use the gear they are using.

I used to enjoy Hook Line And Sinker as the shows were more realistic in regards to the ups and downs of fishing. The boat build projects and silly challenges they set were also entertaining. Im not sure if the show is still running or if its the same content as I don't watch much tv.

I said this once before, I reckon a good show would be a couple of people (mates or husband and wife) with a simple boat, simple tackle and use common ramps up and down the coast, no guides, nothing, and just fish like 99% of the population do, comment on the ramp, facilities and how good or bad the fishing was when going it "alone". Home handyman stuff almost, buying bait (or attempting to catch it on site) and fishing as true "tourists"

Good summary of the shows.

It is for those reasons I have blocked out the use of the name of the big chain stores.

When we first took fishraider on and at various points along the 18 years I asked them to sponsor fishraider forum. They would only ever give us a few vouchers.

On Google searches with anything fishing related fishraider forum content would be at the top. We never needed those chain stores to help.

I agree with everyone that most of the content online and by influencers is heavily sponsored these days.

That's the reason I joined fishraider. The site was always the most relevant and always at the top of the page. I don't fish as much these days but like sharing knowledge.

Show wise I don't mind watching shroom, the fmimf, and flickwithmick, also many others already mentioned but I prefer fishin over watching fishin!

Good to see I'm  not the only bloke who noticed his "specimen" pronunciation 😂

Have you heard him pronounce Swivel? He says “shrivel”.I think he’s been out in the cold fishing too long.

Most of the YouTube channels I mentioned are owned  by  average everyday anglers , one stand out is Spikes fishing as it is one of the (unfortunately) very few channels created by a Female angler - Mel Spikes .
