Pickles
Headed out drifting for Flatties in 60m off South Head. Filled up with Slimies and Yakkas at the artificial reef (lots there and we were getting 4& 5 fish to a string of live bait jigs). As well as a swag of nice sized Flatties, we caught several “Butterfly Gurnard” as well as being an attractive fish - they taste great (equally as good a flathead) and 52cm, so plenty of flesh. They do have a nasty, painful toxin if spiked. Conditions were great and quite different to the predicted strong winds
Isaac Ct
Good stuff Pickles, on point with the gurnard, had some tonight and was much better than the snapper that was cooked with it.

Yowie
Nice gurnard Bob. I rate flatties slightly above the gurnard. Gurnard are slightly easier to skin than flatties.
big Neil
Good to see that you're managing to get some quality time on the water Bob. I can vouch for the painful effects of a nasty encounter with the said culprit. My hand and arm started to go black, extreme pain, and a 4 hr visit to the hospital when fishing at Port Welshpool, Gippsland, Victoria. Pretty looking fish that belies their dangerous capabilities. I didn't get to taste it, so will accept the opinions of those who have. bn
