  1. Hi Troutboy, thanks for that. I'll check it out and I'm sure a few other people will now as well.
  2. When and where is this show on TV?
  3. While we are talking Sabiki jigs, has anyone had any success using them when it is dark? I mean without the hooks baited as well. Never works for me when dark. I don't bother baiting up Sabiki jigs. If I'm going to go to the trouble of doing that I think its more convenient and less headaches and tangles to just use a single hook rig with a tiny running sinker and a long shank hook.
  4. I've asked about that and apparently it wont do much unless you have a whole heap of them all over the trailer.
  5. Yeah right. I've never seen this done. Its always displayed just on the water level above a float. The amount of times I have come across divers that I didn't notice until I was basically on top of them then felt bad because I didn't notice the flag earlier and stayed away. Don't they realise in choppy water we cannot see the flag like this until its too late?
  6. Maybe a few post guidelines such as location obviously. Duration (on/off or constant), surface feeding size, species type if known, what lures are working if fishing it...
  7. Just thinking, if there is no minimum or lowish post count it may encourage bogus live action reports.
  8. Yeah pinned in the reports section with a minimum of 100 posts or more would be good, but then the guy who started this and wants to add his live reports is well below that amount.
  9. I am going with that as well. I leave Southern squid that have died in the bait tank with water or throw them in the esky with ice and they never harden at all.
  10. Sounds like there is something out of whack with the lure. The bib, tow point, hooks or something is out of shape or unbalanced. It may have happened when you caught the last fish on it. My 'rule' is any lure that's about to hit the water for the first time of the day and especially when it is a new lure is to trial it beside the boat first where you can see it.
  11. Nah mate no need to apologize I was just thinking maybe you didn't know but you do After a bit of poking around there is another type of squid called a Loligo or Hawkesbury Squid that those can possibly be, going by the description I found. Anyone know their squids?
  12. I always thought Southern Calamari had its wings the full length of the body. The wings in the picture look shorter.
  13. I've persisted with my old school globe lights as that is what my trailer came with. I would much prefer LED. LED solves many problems and is much more reliable and maintenance free. Another good idea is to have the wiring one piece front to back with no joins or openings in the outer coating at all.
  14. After it frozen and you want to release it, run some hot water on the outside then it should fall straight out....
  15. Oh yes you just reminded me as its been a long time since I had an Interline. If you happen to get a wind knot when casting, it gets wedged inside the rod and you have lots of fun trying to dig it out. Its a shame they have these few problems as they could be good rods. One of my pet hates are tip wraps and with Interline there is no such thing.
  16. I used to have one of those and got rid of it. Too many headaches. Threading your line through with the special tool every time was a pain and leader joins would have problems going through the hole to the inside of the rod. I did like the sensitivity and the no tip wraps in particular.
  17. Those in the picture are arrow squid rather than calamari. You can still eat them though.
  18. Not really. You will still get bitten off. 20lb is good but it depends if you want to use line that thick and maybe get less bites. I would use about 10lb and concentrate more on technique and hooks if using baits. Use long shank hooks. Maybe how you put the bait on the hooks, sensing takes early and when to set the hook. Don't lift their head too close to the surface when near the net. Keep them as low as possible under the water and they will be less likely to thrash around. That's a few things you can try..
  19. Bad luck with the flatty's mate. I liked reading your story though....
  20. Yeah you get smashed without a proper long sleeved shirt. I wear Shimano and Gloomis. They have vents and Velcro sleeves. All good but I wish they had velcro to fasten the main part instead of buttons.
  21. Yeh that happened to my neighbour but my plastic bin has been ok. I keep a constant supply of baits around the place and that keeps the rats n mice under control. Never really see them.
  22. Boat trailer lights.... wish I had a dollar for every one I've seen on the road with some sort of light problem. No exaggeration, but I reckon 90% I see on the road have something wrong with them haha. Geoff, what type of lights have you got? If its the type where the wires connect to the lights with pressure and a few screws your going to continue to have problems with them. I have these and I drilled the back of the lights out, fed the wires through and soldered them direct to the globe holders. Then I silicone the holes up. They have no choice but to work now and had no issues for years. Also, I think its a good idea to disconnect them before backing in the water as I've found the sudden cooling from the water prematurely blows globes and cracks the lenses. The stop 18W globe gets very hot, especially when you have had the brakes on for a while.
  23. Well my tip is to not waste anymore cash on Egimax and you will have no more cleaning problems and catch the same if not more squid. You should clean the outside of your reels when they get dirty hahaha. After every trip is good and I service mine when I notice them getting a bit noisy or not so smooth. Otherwise, I leave them as they are and don't mess them.
  24. That sound dangerous alright. How would you get if off other than jumping in and cutting it? You cant tilt the motor up unless you have some slack. With the prop spinning it could just tighten and pull you under before you notice it. Your boat would be facing rear into any swell and waves. A rising tide can pull you under depending on how tight it is and how quick you get if off. Geez
  25. For that age engine it is not much at all. If your thinking of buying this and you are told by the seller or the hour meter says these hours, I would ignore that and inspect the engine yourself for clues to the real usage amount and its condition. Hour meters can very simply be disconnected.
