  1. I love eating them. Fillet them then cut skin off, remove as much red meat as you can, then lightly flour and shallow fry. Nothing wrong with it! But it must be fresh. Howard.
  2. My wife uses a Wilson Livefiber 10 1/2 foot, 6 kg rod with a Shimano baitrunner 4500. toped with 14 lb Fireline.and 15 to20 lb Vanish trace,. It is an absolute dream to use! Howard.
  3. I have 2 mt7144's. A 1 piece and a 2 piece, both built for an Alvey reel. 8 kg line on a 650c5 the 1 piece is a Butterworth and the 2 I think a Snyder glass. The 2 piece has been sanded and is a little softer, but only just. I love them!!!!!!! Howard.
  4. " Two of the most popular surf rods that we make are for such fishing situations, both of which are made on Snyder Glas blanks. Snyder Glas go right back to the early fifties where they started off as Len Butterworth. The reputation of top quality surf and estuary blanks continues on to this day and you will be hard stretched to find someone that doesn’t agree that today's Snyder Glas blanks set the standard in these fields. The two blanks that we will have a look at and make up are the MT 4144 and the MT 6144. The first rod being suited to ten pound line and the second one to fifteen pound line. Both are rolled up on multi tapered mandrels which gives them the sensitivity in the tip for feeling those bites yet the butt section has enough strength to cast baits well out. Weights of up to 40 grams will suit the 4144 while 60 gram weights can be cast on the 6144. The lighter of the two rods is ideal for general surf fishing while the 6144 makes a good all round surf rod capable of handling a few good tailor as well." Pinched this from another site! hope it helps. Howard.
  5. Booked a weekend down at Sandbar for the weekend before Anzac. Hope the worms cooperate, haven't been down there before but it looks great. Howard.

    Avoca Rocks

I go back to the early 70's with those rocks, have fished from Mugs all the way to Rat Trap. Have some great memories. It now seems so long ago!!!!!! Got spooled and 2 burnt thumbs by a yellowfin off the rocks at Copa too. Howard.
  7. I am so jealous!!!!!!!!!!! Howard.
  8. The base plate is attached to the boat with 3 screws, if these are loose it will move up and down vertically. The transducer itself is fitted to the base plate by lifting a tab at the top of the base plate and slotting the transducer into it. The transducer is then swung down, pushed down firmly and clicked into place. Then the top tab is pushed down and clicked in. If the transducer is swinging up, than it is not clicked down properly. Did you fit if or someone else? I have the same dual frequency transducer and find that the low frequency only works at low speeds, but the high frequency works well up to 25 knots or so. What do you have the Gain set on? If it is on OFF move it up to Fishing. Have a look at page 31 bottom right, how does your transducer look? It should be level with or a few m/m lower than the hull. See how you go with this, otherwise I can take some pics of mine. Howard.
  9. Tabourie is one of My favorite spots. And what a great fish, well done! Howard.

  15. DEVILS HOLE. Rumor has is that there is no bottom!!!!!!!!!! In reality there are a lot of areas that are around 22 to 25 meters deep. Go to http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/ and have a look at the boating maps. Howard.

  20. The drag ratio is 1/2/3, if you set 8 kg of drag you would get 8 at full, 16 at half full, 24 at empty!!!! add to this drag due to water pressure on the line and you had no chance! Howard.

    Sounder Help

As far as i can tell size and the ability to run a different trany is the only difference. the 585 is a big unit, if you are considering one, make sure you have the room. But they are both way ahead of non digital! Howard.
  22. Don't get me started, I am usually very tolerant of others with different tastes to mine, but the arrogance of Jet Skiers really riles me up!!!!!! Howard.
  23. AGM batteries require around 14.8 volts to charge properly, this will cook a gel. They require around 14.2 volts to charge. You must have the correct charger for the type of battery you are using. http://www.fridge-and-solar.net/charge.htm Have a look at the Xantrex Truecharge , It has a switch for Flooded/AGM or Gel, also has a switch for air temperature which changes the battery's ability to charge. Howard.
