  6. Thanks Mike, 10 lb fluro is pretty sturdy so you can give a fair bit of stick, I just make sure all the knots are done 100% Yeah great to see some kings today can only get better hopefully
  7. Finished uni today at 10 so headed to the harbour for a look to see if anything was around. Only had half a bag of old pillys and 2 rods so wasn't really expecting an unbelievable session. set up abit further down that usual to get out of the wind and started burleying up. Not much happening for the first half hour when finally I hooked up on a pilly cube. After a quick fight up came a small salmon. Quick pic and back he went. I was running low on bait when I noticed 2 kings come through the burley so I quickly sent down a few cubes but was snubbed. eventually ran out of bait but didn't want to leave without having a proper go at the kings so I got out the squid jig and tried for a squid. After about 45 minutes of no luck finally managed to jag a lollipop sized squid so I sent that out on one rod and kept squidding with the other. I was casting away and jigging for about 20 minutes when out of the corner of my eye I saw the line tighten up against the wind and the line start peeling off slowly then stop. (I had the rod in freespool) About 20 seconds later the line started peeling off again but this time much faster so I went over and closed the bail and the rod loaded up nicely. Was using 10lb so had to get the pressure on quick but luckily he swam out not straight under. After about 5 minutes of negotiation I had the king surfaced so had to do a solo net job with net in one hand and rod in the other eventually got him up. Went 65 on the dot so he was coming home. Tried for another 20 minutes after that for squid but to no avail so packed up and went home. Not a bad result in trying conditions.
  8. The fish are always there its just about the technique, during the slower months you've got to fish much lighter as the fish are wary due to the clear water and there is also a smaller window of opportunity because they wont feed as often due to their slowed metabolism due to the cold water.
  9. I called the council and they told me its just reffering to the baths and off the beach
  10. My mate sent me this just now, unbelievable....

  12. nice fish mate, by the way is that a bastard morwong?
  13. Its hard going at the moment in the hacking, gotta fish super light but there are still some nice trevally and salmon getting around. just wondering do you fish floating baits for the snapper yowie? is there normally bigger ones around or are they all around that size
  14. well id agree because it resembles the fish quite well
  15. Mainly the eye colouration has me thinkning its a weed/grass/rock whiting when comparing to pics on google
  16. Hey scratchie, fortunately the boat wasnt with the car, the police have found the car albeit abit damaged, but insurance will sort that out. The pillys are seasonal they usually come in late april but they can be hit and miss. If theyre around and aggressive u can get alot in quick time. Usually just a tiny mosquito hook with a tiny bit of bait (pilchard is best lol) if theyre abit picky and bread crumbs for burley. If theyre aggressive you can just cast and retrieve a bait jig and get full strings of them. We do and these are actually better for bait than the W.A ones as they have a higher oil content by about 10%. They are hard to keep alive because theyre scales fall of very easily but during summer if you can get them and use them live they dont last more than a couple of minutes till you hook up. Great livebait for kingfish

  18. Hey yowie, yes the water is really cold around 15 or 16 degrees and the fish are shut down. They might come back on the bite by the time you get back though
  19. Thanks mate, yeah i thought it was just wasnt sure
  20. So the other day I was meant to head out to the peak on my mates boat, but of course the night before someone thought it was a good time to steal his car, so that plan didn't happen. Ended up gathering some bait for future sessions and caught an interesting fish as well which might be a grass whiting. The water is freezing right now and aside from pillys, yakka's, the pike and the squid there wasn't much happening.
  21. caught this the other day in port hacking, closest thing I could find was grass whiting but the colouration is different. unless it changes as they grow?
  22. Awesome thanks everyone ill let u all know how it goes. Ill take some sea sick tablets just incase
  23. I hear theyre great eating, just a paternoster would work for them?

  25. Hey raiders im heading out to 12 mile and the peak on a mates boat on sunday and dont really know what to expect as ive never gone out that far off sydney before. Am i a realistic chance of yellowfin? Or am i better off jigging for kings and bottom bashing. Also what kind of fish can be encountered on the reef? Thanks
