  1. no im in Sydney , and yes they do taste ok , because theres so few of them i would be fishing in areas that do not get hammered all of the time , this way you may find the odd one that has escaped getting caught , it means you have to find hard to reach places that only dedicated fishos would go to , .... look in reality you are searching for a species that is not that common , just go do your thing and if you get the odd one happy days .
  2. mate ive caught them , its only a bi catch they do not hang around in an area in great numbers , also do not confuse deep sea ling for rock ling . they are different species , and the flesh is different
  3. anything 60cm is an amazing catch , a drummer even more so because they are extremely hard to land at any size , congratulations
  4. all screws come off easy because i always lube , its the bail arm with the roller attached to it that has seized and it feels like its glued together
  5. my old shimano (no line roller bearing) has a seized line roller, is there anything that i can soak the bail arm into that may loosen corrosion etc , i know its just a cheap reel but i have had it for a long time and i like to keep it as a spare for when i lend people fishing gear , thank you for your reply
  6. this very interesting! i would never have a go at them after obviously overcooking them in the past , next time i will give them a go
  7. thank you for your advice ,
  8. what size hook, and how long is your trace please mate ? once again great catch
  9. hi Raiders , we mainly fish around the oyster leases in the vicinity of Ettalong , would any local be able to tell me generally when the bream run stops around this area please ? thank you
  10. great report, looking forward to more of them in the future
  11. good report mate , sometimes good bait makes all the difference , what some people do not realise is that Sydney harbour has not been trawled for years as a result there's a lot of food that has the fish spoiled for choice , eg prawns marine worms and a lot of other things , you see this every time you catch a decent size fish and once you clean it you find fat right through its organs , by using things that fish love to eat like freshly caught squid you find that you will always catch more and better fish , try doing this with frozen bait and you will find that you will not do as well , while you can not avoid feeding the small ones you will find that now and then you will hook on to the big ones as well , just something to consider
  12. Hello Raiders , im looking to buy a couple of those collapsible keeper nets (not the metal ones ) so that i can keep fish alive until i make a decision which ones to take home and release the rest of the fish with as little harm as possible , i do all of my tackle shopping these days online , mainly because i always look for the best possible price , but the bad thing about this is that i don't get to have a close up look at the quality of the material used and as some of us know you don't always get what you thought you were buying , so if any of you use them 3 ring ones, i would love to find out which ones have the best netting on them that can last the longest , thank you all for reading this
  13. sounds expensive , i don't want to spend any more then the cost of a tube of quality epoxy, as i said i will probably end up doing the same thing that i would do with any fishing rod , the only thing i dont know is if that will be enough on a cracked carbon tube , but thank you for the offer L F ,
  14. hello raiders , i was driving around the other day when i spotted a a couple of rods (broken ) and one of those (ISO) Telescopic Carbon Landing Nets and Pole , , the pole has got a couple of cracks at the end bit where the net screws into so it will need some minor repairs , the first thing that comes to mind is to use some binding thread etc the same as you would use on a guide , but i was just wondering if anyone has got any better ideas instead , please take a look a the photo and tell me what you think about it , thank you .
