There is one Dive sites that has a few wrecks that are good areas to try. Go to google and type in Michael Mcfadyn Diving, or something like that, its a good place, but beware that many of the wrecks inside the harbour are in shipping channels and anchoring can be very dangerous

Mate the temp was ranging between 14.5 to 15.2, It was 14.7 where we caught them

Hey guys, Well after not fishing for a very long time me and a couple of mates decided to hit the harbour today as all the wives were at a kitchen tea... We met up at Tunks ramp at 10.00am with the plan to catch some squid and then see if any kings were around. Squid was not too hard and we had 9 within 45 minutes so we then decided to head to some of the Middle harbour wrecks... Got to the first 2 locations and nothin was showing on the sounder but the Sailors bay wreck was showing heaps of life. We threw down some squid and within seconds it was taken bu a 70cm king, then another and another. We finished all our squid within 5 minutes and could still see heaps of kings on the sounder so decided to try 80 to 120 gram jigs and the kings went crazy for them.. We boated another 10 or so in 20 minutes and then they went jig shy..... The biggest king went over 80cm but as normal they were winter kings in cold water so there did not fight to summer standards..... All in all a good day though and it was good to be on the water again.

Overheads reels are not consider the best reels for jigging for a couple of reasons, When jigging with a overhead reel you are constantly balancing the rod because it naturally wants to spin back to a lowest point position. Also, It takes you considerably longer to get your jig to the floor then it does with an eggbeater, this is very important because you wanna hit the strike zone straight away and with an eggbeater you literally get down to 100 metres deep about 2-3 times faster then with an overhead, which means you have alot more time to jig.

Sal went squidding on Sunday in the harbour and got 7 in 20 minutes, so there is squid around the harbour at the moment

I had some YGK Jigman last year and wadsnt too impressed with it, i took the whole spool off and replaced it with Varivas and have never looked back, awesome line

Hey Daniel, Im aware that the blue rose is a jap made rod but its not made by one of the Specialised jap jigging brands like the smiths or Xzogas, For the price of a blue rose there are many better rods, Im extremely pro Shimano as many know but if i was comparing a Blue rose or Jig wrex to a Smith the smith would win hands down...

They have been around for over a year now, very nice rods but for the RRP of over $700 there are many better Jap rods...

Without a doubt 30cm slimie is not the best bait for a 70cm king, smaller baits would be more effective, also try a variety of baits, sometimes they will ignore a livie and smash a pillie

I have just got a new Smith spiral wrap for downrigging and its awesome, the best way to go for any overhead reel...

Mate if you can afford it go the new one, It has some imporvements on the older model liked sealed bearings, which the Fa models dont have
