  1. Bad luck mate. I'm heading out next saturday so hopefully they'll be on the chew then Tides don't look fantastic though..
  2. Good effort mate! MH has been a little quiet the last week or so, so you did pretty well. I saw a few John Dory up around the moorings in Sugarloaf as well as Balmoral
  3. Depends if its a floating style HB or sinking HB. For floating you should ideally fish in water less than 2 meters. The retrieve is basically a fast double twitch with the rod (downwards) then either a very short (1-2s) pause or a slow wind for 2s. The pause is not as crucial as it is for bream but it will still entice plenty of strikes. For sinking style HB, same retrieve but with an optional upwards flick. This however, depends on the bib size of your lure. With sinking HB you can also do a really fast 3s wind, then a little twitch and repeat over. If you change up your retrieve every now and again and render it to suit conditions and water depth, then be in with a good chance Good luck!
  4. Bad luck about the kingy mate! I'd say a squid pinched your livie. That was regularly happening to me until i finally hooked whatever was stealing my livie. Turned out to be big squid.
  5. Not sure of the name however i got truckloads of them in a castnet in weipa (cape york). Could be a crescent grunter i guess
  6. Give it a go mate but you'd be surprised at how many others will be out even though its windy and cold. During the rains in the last few weeks its still been busy! Good luck!
  7. only issue is the thought at the back of your mind that they may close the national park gates early as its mid week... hopefully they won't...
  8. Bad luck mate! Probably tailor busting up. They're picky when it comes to yakkas at times. They were probably after smaller bait. Strange that there weren't any salmon around... Been a few at Balmoral lately. Maybe give it a go!
  9. Hopefully mate. Might have to head out during the week as WB gets pretty packed on weekends. Should be a few about though!
  10. Chum the area a bit and put out a selection of baits. A big salmon/mullet head and a live bait (big mullet, big yakkas, tailor) under a balloon. Preferably give the livie a little tiny wound so theres a small scent of blood in the water coming from it. In the Harbour, head up into middle harbour. Anchor in places where theres deep water (10m+) and good current flow. These are the sorts of places where sharks are likely to be actively feeding. Its worth having an unweighted bait too. This will woft around in the current until something has a crack at it! For the Hawkesbury, i find them almost anywhere. If you burley hard then you should have a little bit of luck! I have to agree with the previous comment though, the sharks will be harder to get through the cooler months. If i were you i'd hold off until september at least. Cheers, Tom
  11. hahahaha "squid testicle" aye? Any good? Classic !
  12. nice bream buddy! congrats! where'd you get it?
  13. hahaha, i reckon he must mean burley. Or maybe small bits of bread?
  14. For some reason i find them easier to get in winter. I'm sure most would differ from this though. I can definitely vouch for the theory that they go deeper in winter. For example, in winter last year the yakkas at west head (pittwater) were hanging right at the bottom in 15m of water. In summer they were hanging mid water in about 8m in the same area. Can't go wrong if you grab a sabiki rig and bait every second hook up and slowly lift it up and let it sink back down. Good luck!
  15. no expert on cowan but you can get them in most places with a little burley. I assume this post is related to hairtail and/or jewies. You should be able to anchor up at your spot and get a few, especially if your fishing WB.
  16. Depends on depth. I really mix and match so can't really give a good weight. You need to also consider current before choosing. Others may have better suggestions about weight though.
  17. Apple tree is where the vast majority will be launching. Another option is Akuna bay but not quite as close as apple tree. Good luck!
  18. thanks for that mate. Hopefully i won't get any nasty surprises!
  19. Keen to hear the answer to this too!
  20. Don't think it would do much to the school. If theres food and they're hungry they'll eat it for sure! . Jewies are a different story though. They will often sound when one is released back into the school. Mainly fish between 3-9kg that is.
  21. Just to get this straight, is it 4 rods overall or per person? Pretty sure its per person but not sure.
  22. Great session guys! Very jealous
  23. Definitely worth targetting them mate! They grow to monster sizes, fight VERY well and taste great too! By far my favourite fish in sydney waters!
