  1. Usually a leader of about 70cm to keep it away from rays, eels and other ooglies
  2. Head over to Balmoral Wharf. Its located in mosman and there's plenty of fish there if you know what to do. Mainly flathead, salmon and trevally at this time of year. A few Tailor aswell. Try using prawns and pilchard fillets. Might be worth trying to catch a small baitfish called a yellowtail that lives here. If you fish one of these under a float off the end of the wharf then you might hook a salmon. If you want to try something different, you can catch squid here. Just chuck out a squid jig and away you go! Make sure you avoid weekends though.. gets pretty busy!
  3. Hi mate, Sliding swivels sound like they'll help you a bit. Grab a snapper lead and attach it to about 40cm of leader then onto a sliding swivel. This slides up and down the line so the fish feels no weight. This is a better alternative to a normal sliding sinker. Keep it in mind! Cheers, Tom
  4. Good to see the Palmy flats still have some good fish on them!
  5. It depends what sort of live bait your after; - Squid - Yakkas - Mullet - Slimeys - Garfish - squid; you can either get a few squid jigs and find likely spots where rock/weed/reef is present. Some public wharves such as Balmoral can be good too. - Yakkas; Either grab a bait jig from a tackle store or get a few small hooks and tiny splitshots/sinkers. BURLEY! Use pillie bits, prawn bits, pellets, tuna oil, bread and mix it together. With the jig, just slowly jig it off the bottom or wind it up through the water column. Sometimes if they are in your burley tril near the surface you can chuck out a tiny hook with a bit of pilli or chicken and no sinker. - Mullet; Get a mullet trap from your local tackle store or make one yourself. Attach some weight to it and put bread inside. Leave it in water preferably about 30cm deep and wait. Don't try this on a windy day though, it never works out well.. - Slimeys; Same as yakkas but a slightly bigger hook and bait. Jigs are also good. Burley aswell! - Garfish; light line/rod, float and small hook. Little bits of bread are what works from me but they are quite fragile and might not stay alive after handled for as long as mullet and yakkas. Good luck!
  6. Thanks for the replies, will have a look at them. I'm getting a kayak (Hobie Pro Angler) and i will hopefully do most of my trolling out of it. Would the skirt be kay for being trolled at kayak speed? Cheers, Tom
  7. Hi raiders, looking to build up my lure arsenal a bit. Just wondering what people use for tailor/salmon/bonito for trolling in the sydney area. Colours would be great too!\ Cheers, Tom
  8. Tailor and Plastics weren't made for eachother....

  9. Cut up pillies/squid/fish frames and chuck them out at regular intervalls. That should do the trick for pelagics! Burely bags can do the job aswell!
  10. Jeez you guys know how to catch a king or two! Great stuff! Cheers, Tom
  11. Nice work mate, sounds like the flatties were on! I think i know that spot you got most of them. Fires every now and again just like you experienced!
  12. Great stuff! Can't wait to head up north again!
  13. Works great on the reefies up north and gets snapper, flathead and a host of other species down our way!
  14. Try fishing in that spot when there's minimal tidal movement then. Coasters retreat has much less current and is another great spot!
  15. Hey mate, nice lizard fir rosie! Definitely tailor chomping your livies! Caught too many to count the other day on plastics near there! Keep at it mate! Cheers, Tom

    King Fish

I reckon try near the entrance to cowan creek with squid and live yakkas. Seen a few busting up early morning in the last month or so and they aren't small fish either! Haven't been able to nail one yet though.. Barrenjoey and West head are probably your next best bet as they seem to be hanging near the entrance to pittwater Cheers, Tom
  17. West head over the weed beds
  18. 97cm flathead on 6lb braid, 6lb leader. Taken from the noosa river 5 years ago! Took 15mins
  19. +1 for legal sized tailor on jews!
  20. I used to fish balmoral a fair bit but it just gets too crowded. Especially on weekends but even during the week during winter there are almost always others there. Nice work on the squid. I actually find that fishing there is better in winter! I always got a feed of flathead, trevally, bream and tailor. Yakkas are easier to get from the wharf too during winter!
  21. If your'e using squidgees put some S-Factor on them! Comes with the squidgy pro wrigglers and it does make a difference
  22. I've caught big bream and flathead on bonnie fillets in the hawkesbury. I find a 2 hook snelled rig with 4/0 suicides to be best. I only get the bream and flathead on bigger strips and small tailor on small strips
  23. Great fish mate! I've been wanting to tick off a big threadie but thats a cracker you got!
