  1. great stuff @Pickles @big Neil on wrangling up fish in tough conditions.
  2. hey BaitDropper going along with your scenario I'd would imagine myself holding a 2-5kg, ~7ft rod with a 2500 sized reel with 8-10lb braid. I would want something that could cast a bit of distance and that be light enough to cast all day. With that said, I have 17 year old Shimano outfit (T-curve 1-3kg with a 2500c Symetre) that feels great in the hand and just feels like an extension to my arm. I also have a newer Daiwa outfit(TD Black 2-4kg with a 3000 Freams) which is lighter and stiffer and it got more 'feel' in the hand. Some of the technology has improved over the years and it's definitely targeting an improved fishing experience (no guarantees that you will catch fish!) Both of my outfits give me joy everytime, but not always fish 😅 Like most things, it's a personal choice and IMHO you have to 'fall in love' your equipment and it's got to give you a buzz when you use it. The process of researching and choosing a combo is almost just as exciting and addictive as fishing itself. Good luck and can't wait to see what you end up with.
  3. nice mixed bag @Pickles, the colours on that gunnard is amazing.
  4. nice one @Yowie, what a lovely chunky looking kingie!
  5. What a trip! fantastic report and thanks for sharing!
  6. Annyeong @Pickles! It certainly was a huuuggee plate of sashimi for 3 adults and 2 kids, I couldn't eat any more that day. The wrasse were too small, thrown back to grow bigger for the next fisho. We did go to Hallasan and Seongsan Ilchulbong (a 5000 year old volcanic crater!) and a bunch of other places. Jeju is famous for it's hairtail and abalone, so we ate alot of that too. thanks @Squidless, Jeju is a beautiful place to visit and it's a lot quieter than Seoul or Busan. Don't forget to pack a rod or book a fishing trip!
  7. glad you are back out there fishing and well done on the bag of fish!
  8. living up to your name, the flatties are coming! well done!
  9. some solid looking fish there, enjoy the feed
  10. Thanks @Larkin! Is it even a holiday if there's no fishing involved? LOL Thanks @Blackfish, we were blessed with great weather. It was super tasty sashimi, best I've had. Thanks @Little_Flatty, a great place to holiday, just make sure you pick your seasons correctly. The fish markets are a great place to enjoy the seafood too. I did drop into a few tackle shops and the range is insane. The local reels and rods are next level, highly specialised to ISO. Thanks @Yowie, it was the most sashimi I've ever had in 1 sitting. The fish frame was tossed into a spicy stew which was brought out to us after we finished the sashimi, fooood comma!
  11. Just got back from South Korea this week and I was able to sneak 1 fishing trip into the family holiday! We were on the island of Jeju and were taken by boat to a barge in the middle of the ocean. This fishing barge was quite big and was very comfortable for the whole family to fish from. At first, everyone was given rods with paternoster rig with tiny hooks. We started with live worms and tiny prawns, which resulted in a range of reef fish. Then, to my delight, our fishing guide took out the jigging rod! Within minutes I was hooked up and the fight was on. Fair to say I was ecstatic when we landed the fish. My first amberjack on a jig! Since this was a family fishing trip, we were only on the barge for 2 hours. Within that time, I landed 3 more smaller jacks and got absolutely reefed by a bigger one. The kids loved seeing me nearly get pulled over the side by these powerful fish, but I had to put the jig down to help the kids land their first wrasse. We took one of the fish to a local restaurant and it was best sashimi I've had! I'm already dreaming about my next 'Korea-break' Tight lines!
  12. great catches there, well done!!
  13. top report and glad to hear Maria is getting better.
  14. solid flattie there. Persistence paid off in the heat.
  15. wow! quality report and fish there. well done!
  16. solid trip, well done boys. Looks like thirsty work
  17. Kings from the yak, that's awesome and well done! Must be a handful to handle. I'm pretty sure if I got a king in a yak, I would flip the yak and the fish would swim away 🤣
