    Windang

Hit Windang early this morning armed with a variety of baits with the wife and son to be greeted by a glorious day out on the water. We tried fishing the channels along the islands to be plagued by massive schools of mullet everywhere and other than my son landing a small tailor around the mid 20,s not much else on the drift there. After a discussion earlier last night with another raider we decided to head upstream to the drop off to try drifting for flathead/whiting.Within minutes my son lands the first casualty,a flathead around 30cm or so on a whole prawn. From there on in it was hook up after hookup and quite frantic at times with 3 fish on at once in a small boat juggling rods, bait and tripping over each other that I was kept quite busy being the fish netter, bait passer etc. Overall we must have landed around 25 flathead, around 6-7 whiting and 2 good sized squid that had a appetite for prawn on a #1 hook. I tried to get a few snaps on my phone amongst all the fuss. We could not have asked for a better day both in the weather, the fishing and family time. We kept 2 legal Flatty and 4 whiting for dinner the rest went back to live another day. Plenty of other boats enjoying the weather also. Cheers.

    When tyres let go

A friend had this blow out that took out his guard like a grenade in the process.Timely reminder to keep an eye on those tyre pressures and condition of your tyres guys.

    Squid tubes

Just a quick one. Those fish shop squid tubes,do they make decent strip baits?Any one use/used them before? Thanks.
  8. If your ears are sensitive to the wind now, there's no harm in wearing the earplugs or even a set of ear muffs.I myself have lost a fair bit of hearing over the years and have similar ear discomfort at times.I blame industrial deafness, the mrs nagging and loud music as a youth that didn't know better. I've had hearing tests every year at work and it's incredible how much your hearing declines once you go past the age of 30-35. My advice is to wear some form of hearing protection when your vulnerable to the noise and hearing discomfort. I always wear ear plugs when at work, mowing, using power tools etc. I always wear earplugs as soon as the mrs begins to nag and as it becomes constant nagging I then put ear muffs over the top as the plugs just can't cope.lol. Ps My boat doesn't go fast enough to warrant wearing earplugs. Look after what hearing you have left mate. Fab1.
  9. Old Murphy wasn't on your side at all mate.My hat goes off to you for persisting and it certainly beats doing anything else especially work. Cheers.
  10. I think you could fish right beside Yowie and he'll still catch all the fish.
  11. Well done once again mate. You catch more in one session than what most people that fish the river catch in several.
  12. How many times if we're honest have we towed when tired? You know how it goes, too many beverages the night before, late nights, the baby keeping us up etc, etc. These guys could have easily killed themselves or others around them. I can honestly say that there's been a few times that I have woken up to go fishing and haven't felt the best for various reasons and have aborted the mission as I'm the only driver. Can you? Food for thought isn't it.
  13. What where they thinking? It never ceases to amaze me the stupidity of some people. My biggest worry is anyone can buy a boat and head out to sea these days with very little to nil experience under their belt. The same goes to buying a boat and rocking up to pick it up and simply hitching it up and driving off without any regard given to weight distribution, tow bar down weight, towing experience etc. Some people shouldn't drive a car let alone tow a boat from what I've seen.Hope the boaters where ok in the end.
  14. Hi mate, the Bp on Heathcote Rd the WindyBanks chicken gut.I bought some on Sunday night. Cheers.

    Hacking.

Well done and great report.I fished the rising tide from around 6pm-midnight last night for a couple of bream and a few whiting with the family. We fished up from grays,Lilly Pilly and Yowie bay for the fish with plenty of small reds, bream, tailor thrown in.I got busted of by something with good weight and so did my wife at one point.A few people where out which surprised me but I guess it's the long weekend. I had pillys,Banana prawns, chicken, and strip baits but all fish caught where on the prawns.
  18. Congrats on your first plastic caught Flathead.Im guessing it is very busy on the lake?Im thinking of having a crack there or down greenwell point in the next day or so.

    Small Prawns

I think people buy those packet prawns for the sake of convenience I guess even though they cost more. Where I live there's 2 servos on the way to the south coast that I always see people buying them on the way down to the coast among other baits. There's still plenty of people doing spare of the moment fishing trips and stop in the servo etc to buy bait on the way to their chosen fishing spot including myself and they do still catch fish. I've caught my best bream down the shoalhaven river on a prawn that was almost black that was given to me by an angler that left to go home. My best flathead drifting down Windang came from a servo prawn that I bought on the way down. Its like paying $4:50 for a 600ml coke from the servo or buying a 2l bottle for less from Coles. Humans are lazy and will pay for convenience even though sometimes it ain't the best option. I've used freshly pumped nippers and haven't caught anything before where the servo prawns caught some nice flathead to take home. I'm far from a fishing expert but believe all baits will catch fish given the right circumstances. I understand where your coming from though.
  22. The 3 options I can suggest are: 1-This is a very simple solution to get your kayak on the roof racks by yourself. Get yourself one of those rubber backed carpeted shower or door mats and drape it over the back of the cars roof onto the glass. If you can get the front up on the carpet it's then simply a matter of picking the rear up and sliding it on the carpet forward.Use a small step ladder/milk crate etc for that final push if you have to being a shorter person. 2-Buy some 40-50mm pvc pipe,90deg elbows and two tee pieces and make yourself up a rectangular frame to slide underneath your roof racks leaving about a foot over hanging the roof of the car. you'll place the kayak on this using the method above. 3-This option is more involved but not impossible.Using a boat roller and cradle you can magnetise the base and cover the magnets in felt to prevent scratching your duco and placing it on the roof of your car when needed and loading as above or you could semi/permanently have it mounted to a frame made to suit your roof racks which is more involved again. There's a few options that won't break the bank. Cheers.
  23. Have a look at readmanual.com or tradebit.com mate.
  24. That creek would of come in handy for sure. Not familiar with kayaks as I've never had one but know they weigh a fair bit. Have you thought about a simple roller on the rear of the car and placing the front of the kayak on that then sliding her on that way? Just a thougt.
