  1. First of all you need to workout a little more as an aluminium boat should be able to be lifted with one hand.lol.You can buy tongues with different offsets/drops to help raise the nose on your trailer like this one.Try the wreckers and a few trailer places. Also if you haven't done so you can turn your existing tongue round 180 degrees to raise the trailer by around 50mm. Cheers.
  2. I look at it like this. You own a mass produced boat like many others do including myself. They are all built to a price with the #1 priority for the manufacturer being making as much profit as possible and being as efficient as possible at the same time.At the end of the day they couldn't care less if it takes you 2 seconds to change a light or 3weeks once the deal is made and they have your money. I bitch every time I change the oil filter on my ute how stupid it's placement is.It's still there in the same spot waiting for me next time round. Same with Plumbers, electricians, car manufacturers etc, etc. They will all put things where it's easier for them and not necessarily you. I've changed plugs on cars in 5 minutes and others took way longer due to accessibility and labour involved. Besides,if everything was well thought out, bullet proof and un breakable we'd all whine and complain how much the initial purchase price is. At least you know that you've made life that little bit easier for yourself and perhaps later the new owner Jim. cheers.
  3. I would sell that motor and buy a 30 to stay legal for your own good. All boats will steer well out of the water no matter what as there's no load, water pressure and speed put on the steering system and prop. They all suffer what is known as torque steer due to the rotation of the prop, water drag, etc which needs to be counter acted by adjusting the outboards trim tab a few degrees either to the left or right depending on the direction the outboards pulling towards.(Fwd powerful cars experience something similar also known as torque steer.)At the very least get that hull re-rated for the 40. Cheers.
  4. Hitting tyres on curbs, driving up gutters etc can and will damage tyres internally if done often enough even though there's no obvious damage externally with the naked eye. People don't realise how complex tyres are internally and the abuse they have to sustain day in and day out under everyday driving conditions on our cars let alone trailers of any description. Like some one else said the 13" and even the 14" tyres are slowly going by the wayside as there is an ever decreasing demand for them but it will be a while yet. If you go the 14" route ensure you have enough clearance inbetween your guard and top of your tyre so they don't scrub out.(The extra 1" will decrease that gap by 1/2".) Having said all that I would do my best to stop hitting kerbs, keep the tyres inflated correctly,Minimise there sun exposure by covering them if in the sun,if your rig is parked up for some time raise the wheels of the ground on stands or move the boat slightly to a new contact patch on the tyre(This is good for both tyres and bearings) of you could take it for a short drive every few weeks and replace the tyres every 5 years regardless of condition. This is what I've done my whole driving life and hasn't failed me yet other than the unavoidable odd puncture. In summary by the best you can afford, look after them and they will give you the longest service life. Cheers.
  5. The lunch in the hull etc is the builders version of burying all the rubble, rubbish and crap in the front yard of new homes. I went back to the dealer with a rusty tape etc that they left in my hull when I lifted the floor and have theme what for. That tape saved me 2k on the purchase of my boat not to mention the kick in the xxxx I gave them all. good job mate.

    Over 26,000 members?

I'm not that stupid that I thought that all the members where going to be posting all at once, then again how do you know I'm not.Like I said in the original post it would be nice if out of all those members more than the small percentage that replies and posts made the effort to contribute a little more. I've found some of the dozens or so various sites I've been a member of over the years have stagnated because of this among other things and have closed down some of which where very good in the first few years with plenty of active posts and replies to those posts/questions etc. Anyway it's good to see a few new guys posting after losing a few of the older members. Cheers.
  7. Intresting, how do they police it as I would assume it's a bit hard to put a chalk mark on a tyre as it's a boat?I've seen boats tied up for hours on end.
  8. It is a beutiful spot for young kids swimming/playing in the shallows. The few times I've caught any whiting there has been on either beach worms or a pinch of peeled prawn on a #6 hook. Great read. Cheers.
  9. Unfortunately with the ever increasing population, boats, anglers and fewer fish, the problem will only get worse. I understand where Raymondo is coming from in regards to people not getting involved not just with the taking of undersized fish but in society as a whole. I ask this,Do you help the man being bullied by thugs on the train? Do you interfere when your neighbours being robbed? Do you catch and hand over the man robbing your workplace and hand him to the police? I've done all three without a second thought about self preservation or what consequences there may be because it's the right thing to do. When that man being bullied on the train is your elderly father and the house and business being robbed is yours you may think differently also. We all need to wake up and realise that the world is the way it is because we as a society let it be by not getting involved. I can tell you that in all 3 scenarios I've shared that if I had just called the police, all four offenders (There where 2 robbing my neighbours)would have been long gone. That's what I do and will continue to do so when I see wrong regardless and others can choose to either get involved or do nothing it's up to them.
  10. Get a white rag with a little cutting compound and give the hull a rub.If you turn over the rag and it's blue you don't have a clear over base paint. The same with the white except you use a coloured rag other than white. You'll find it will be Clear over base mate.Back in the day we use to check if the cars we where painting were acrylic or 2k buy soaking a rag in thinners and wiping it over a conspicuous panel. The paint would start softening(Melting)if it was acrylic.2k is not affected. Word of warning is be careful if your machine buffing/polishing that hull as it is very easy to rub through the edges of the pressings on the side of the Hull as the paint is always thinner there.A trick is to run masking tape along those ridges and give them a light go over with the buff once the bulk of the polishing has been done. I would do the lot by hand if it where me but it's up to you. And finally, nice boat & lawn. Cheers.
  11. People tend to forget that they are a requirement in ALL low visibility scenarios such as fog etc not just at night. I had a situation where I was motoring at night when up ahead I could see a boat crossing my path with it's port light lit up. No big deal you'd think, but the problem was it was traveling left to right. It either was a very fast boat in reverse or my educated guess was his nav lights had been installed the wrong way round. Guess what? After chasing and waving the owner down and a few Q's later I was informed he was a new boater and the lights came with his boat from the dealer like that.I nearly fell over nearly as much as when I lifted the floor on my tinny on its maiden voyage home from the dealer to find a rusty tape measure, screws and rivets in the bottom of the Hull. Then people ask me why I do all my own work and if I don't know I will do everything I can to learn. Be careful guys it does happen.
  12. Don't worry about it mate.Like you said as long as you do the right thing is all that matters and eventually those idiots that guys try to educate will get run over or worse. Surely you won't get banned.
  13. It's like anything I guess isn't it?There's people that will go above and beyond to comply with the rules and regulations,There's the ones that try to,and those that simply don't care and will eventually become a statistic. The same goes to the idiots fishing off ramps, wharfs and pontoons when you come in to use them. They must think your coming over to have a chat on how their fishing is going. They too will become a statistic if they don't wind their lines in when asked. Cheers.

    Jacking trailer

I already had the photos from a previous post.Besides if Raging had of asked I would of taken some photos for him as it's only a few moments of my time.Big deal. As for preventing theft Raging ,there's no such thing. All pad locking etc does is slow them down.I put mine on the winch post on a bracket I made up and have locknuts holding it on.You can but brackets, make your own or store it in the car like Roylo does.Others carry the trailer spare in the boat,it's up to you. Make sure you carry an appropriate jack and wheel brace and lock nut key if fitted. Cheers.
  15. I know the store your on about Mick. Like the others said it is a requirement for all on board to where pfds from Dusk till dawn on the size vessels we both own. It would also be helpful to other boaters if people displayed appropriate Navigation lights on their vessel at those times also as they're also compulsory for all boats.I'm yet to see everyone out complying on both accounts when I've gone out at night. I nearly ran over a idiot at Yowie bay one night in a smaller tinny than mine going full pelt. All that saved him was I saw the glow from his cigarette at the last minute and turned away. This imbecile was shirtless and had no pfd or displayed nav lights.
  16. Me free hand sharpening my fillet knife using a oil stone in real time filmed today. It's all about keeping the angles you set at the beginning throughout the motion. Learn this basic skill and you will be able to sharpen your knives, tools etc anywhere.
  17. Some fine eating for all there.Nice way of utilising a bow roller too. Cheers.
  18. Yes,Alloy rims are better but they can also have issues.(Not to the degree steel does)I was talking in general to check your valve stems, tyres and rims periodically as many people have boats, box trailers, caravans etc that this can happen to. Cheers.
  19. Putting tubes in won't solve your delaminated tyre valve. Running tubes or tubeless you will eventually get cracking on the valve stem which should be inspected periodically by bending the stem and if any sort of cracking crazing is found should be replaced. This is past it's use by date and I would de-mount the tyre and inspect and paint the rim also.

    Jacking trailer

If removing both wheels at the same time it's good practice to have the trailer attached to the car and the cars handbrake firmly attached and in park/gear. Then jack underneath the axle as close to the leaf spring you can and place a suitable jack under the side rail/s. If doing one at a time chock the opposing wheel first then continue as above. Chock, jack and support here.Remember to crack the wheel nuts before lifting the wheels of the ground. Cheers.
  21. They where lucky that day.

    Bearing buddie cap

When you put the cap on press the centre in with your thumb to expell the air out in between the cap and the buddy. This creates a vacuum that helps hold them on. For good measure I tape them up also as I use the set and forget method.
  23. Glad to help. Yes,correct. And don't forget to service your calipers. I'm far from a genius and certainly no Einstein.Im glad the photos are helpful as it's not quite the same as video.

    Bearing buddie cap

Hi mate,I use insulation tape over the caps and haven't lost one yet.My boat came without caps and I launches and retrieved it for over 3 years without issue.I only added them recently. If your unfamiliar with bearings I've done a few posts on this site in the workshop which will she's some light on the subject you may want to look at. Look forward to seeing more posts from you in the future. Cheers.
