  1. Yes mate!! With all game gear you need to thumb the spool. In other words, you need to manually move the line as you are winding it in from side to side to stop it gathering in the one spot!! This is very important as any nick on that line and you’ll lose your fish! I hope I explained that ok! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Awesome report swano! Congrats to Deb. Sounds like a great day out there on the yak. And the luxury of a water snake on the way back! Perfect! Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Welcome to fishraider! I suggest you do a search of the site for the information you need. There’s certainly plenty of information on jewfish. As for locations, there should be some of those too! Cheers scratchie!!!
  4. A few nice fillets there yowie! Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Congrats Anthony! Soft plastics is a very active way of fishing! Once you learn the art, it is so addictive! And it works for many species! The bonus is no smelly hands at the end of the day! Haha cheers scratchie!!!
  6. Between 6-8 knots is fine depending on lures. You want them running through the face of your wake not falling and bouncing off the back of it. The other guys may have been skip baiting or trolling livies. Lures- 6-8 knots skip baiting - 4 knots live baiting- drift or boat just in gear! Ask as many questions as you want! That’s what this forum is all about! Don’t forget, everyone that is reading this thread is learning too!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. Well they can’t be far off. But the season is definitely going to be shorter than last year! We’ll be back to chasing winter reds before you know it! ( what a shame 😝)
  8. I’m pretty sure that was last year! Nothing really happening up here at the moment 😩 cheers scratchie!!!
  9. There was only a few caught off Sydney yesterday. Little blacks in close. Definitely a hit or miss situation as always! Do the miles and you’ll get the smiles! Mate at least the water is better down there than up here! Not hearing much at all for PS. This time of year is usually on fire! Keep at it! Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Wow, has that sea change been a year already? Definitely a lot better fishing up there with the warmer waters and a great variety of fish too! Good to see you getting amongst a few! Keep the reports coming! Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Fair enough! A few guys I fish with use that knot but not on heavy line like that. I must admit I’m with rick! I use an improved Albright and don’t seem to have any problems. Interesting table JonD!!! Everyone seems to have an opinion on which knots work best for certain things but the best knot is the one that holds. So learn the ones you want for your application and do them well. Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. They are fine to take. And as mentioned it is a bag limit of 5. I have eaten them in the past and they are not too bad but the larger ones have a slight chlorine taste! Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Hey Sam, what do you intend to use the knot for??? Snapper stick? Flatty Fishing? Etc!!!
  14. That’s an awesome report! Good on Bob for giving it ago, catching a few and then eating the rewards! Well done Jim to converting another! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Nice photos Baz! A shame there’s no fish in them! I’m surprised the usual haunts didn’t yield any fish. Woodsy managed 7 snapper and a mako that day I think. But that’s fishing isn’t it. A lot of people up here are hit and miss atm! The cold water still welling in here doesn’t help things! At least you got out and enjoyed your day! Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. I’ve still got a few spots up sleeve! He hasn’t graduated yet! Lol 😂
  17. Haha, only 7 pannies??? My new and improved repellent is working!!! 😂😂😂 I bet you still did better than most! You are almost a tradesman now champ! Well done!!!
  18. Haha, slow day mate??? 7 snapper and no post of the mako you also caught! That’s a cracking day on anyone’s book! It’s very frustrating the etiquette of some fishos! Driving up your drift, doing circles around your intended fishing areas, or anchoring infront of you! Glad your knowledge of the area allowed you to move away and smack em! Well done champ! Jealous I had to work! Cheers scratchie!!!
  19. Haha, I seen your face when that thing hit you and didn’t give you a chance! Priceless!! That’s the adrenaline of a good snapper! 👍
  20. Yes I do! Always an option up here! Would have liked to hear the big gear scream though! 😩
  21. Well done fellas! You made the news by taking that beast of a mako Home! Haha There were bizarre scenes on Sydney’s roads on Sunday as a group of fishermen transported a mako shark across the city. cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Cheers mate! The beauty of flat seas! You can go almost anywhere in one day!
  23. Cheers mate! Glad you made the trek down safely! We had the same thing with the water! It climbed dramatically, so after working the shelf we came back and worked that area but it was all over the place and no bait anywhere! As for the snapper, it’s always an option!!! 😂
  24. Did you ask permission to have those beers baz! Get out there mate and let’s see a report! Good luck!
