    Fish ID please

Ah cheers, I didn't know their full name. I did find that they croaked!

    Fish ID please

Looks like a trumpeter. A smallish fish around 15-20cm in length.
  3. Congrats on your first jew. I know that feeling when your heart is pumping quickly. May this be the first of many happy catches.
  4. Great stuff Jeff, not sure what happened to my mobile, I knew it would be something good and probably a jew and you didn't disappoint!
  5. Top report Matt! I need to get some of those Damiki armor shads, they look the goods. Haha yeah funny day. Ben's 'jew' was found to be a salmon after several sizzling runs, whilst my 'pb flathead' turned out to be a confused blackie
  6. Looks like a fantastic trip Stuey. Looking forward to reading more about it when it gets posted.
  7. Thanks Ian, I'm always grateful for your supportive comments. Glad to be sharing these catches, makes for a good read and aids to generate a bit of interest and forum activity. Looking forward to your reports when you get a chance to wet a line! Pete
  8. Jeff, I can imagine the excitement over a fantastic catch like that - I'm getting exciting being all the way here! Jew on SP is something special and not everyone has ticked that box (including me!). You've learnt fast and earned your stripes in a spectacular fashion. Maybe instead of getting tips from me, I should be asking you haha! Fantastic work and on 6lb too. Now you've cracked the code, there may be a few big 'meterys' out there waiting for you! Pete
  9. As a younger person, you have a good point BUT I also experience something like this in reverse when older people immediately expect to beat me in a game of bowls
  10. Thanks Stan, with summer coming, you are spoilt for choice! Carp on fly, jewies in surf, bass and more. Thanks Jeff, I knew you would like the whiting. I tried mmsing it a while ago but it wouldn't send unfortunately. Good luck with your fishing and the trip and let me know how you go. Also if you ever come down this way we should tee up! Pete
  11. Awesome pictures. The accompanying photos of the release of those majestic blue groupers is something special.
  12. Well done on a big effort in getting out there solo. Even sweeter to score a trout on a lure you haven't used before.
  13. Cheers and welcome to Aus, I hope it's living up to (and exceeding ) expectations. Hopefully the warmer weather starts to heat up the action for you up there. Good fish in that pic, some big ones there. Thanks Paikea. I just try to put up any report I can so others have something to read and look at and hopefully inspire a few people to get out there.
  14. Good work on finding the jews again. That's a top croc too.
  15. Thanks Matt, I agree the bass are calling! I think I hear some cicadas too Cheers Ben, let's hope we smash some more bream instead of upping our credentials for the title of donut king haha.
  16. Nice trev, I'm sure it went nuts.
  17. Catches over the past month (Georges) have been sporadic. I had my share of donuts and near-donut seshes (just ask Kingfisher84, SargeRX8 and Matt17). It is difficult to put a finger on the reason(s), however, I have found that there have been some better-sized fish on these slow days. This is in agreement with the age-old statement that the fish is of better quality in winter whereas quantity describes the summer months. However, I have had a few seshes with over half dozen bream/fish with decent size too. Here are some photos, couldn't upload all of them. Some mean bream in the bunch, tailor, flatties, luderick, salmon and whiting (including a suicidal one!). Pretty stoked with some of the catches 2.5" Z-mans, squidgie wrigglers, madeye prawns on jigheads ca. 1/16oz, did the damage. The cracker whiting fell to a 80mm squidgie fish while the trevally found his match in the form of a Gulp! sandworm in copper colour. Mostly using 4lb fc leader to 6lb mainline worked throughout the water column. edit: more pics coming
  18. Is this always? What about at low tide? I do not believe they are there then, any suggestions?
  19. Tom Ugly's bridge hands down. You can literally fish from the car. I've seen people mount rods on their 4wds and utes and fish off that. You could park with the boot facing the water and have him sit there with the door open holding his rod

    Jewies

There's a jewie thread here (http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=36153) that is imo the best repository of information and experiences of fellow raiders which might be worth a look. I've only got a few jewies (but only on bait) and some others might have better info but I'd say pick a known jew spot (any place you KNOW has produced) and stick with it. Imo, beaches are a good place to start if you are not certain of the holes/structure of the any particular estuary. Learn to get fresh bait, especially squid which is the gun bait. Fish the tide changes and you will get that jew!
  21. Bad luck but at least there were a few bites to keep you interested. On the flipbside, it could have easily been 3 caught.
  22. Marlin would have got the heart racing.
