  1. As always, awesome reddie there Jeff. Would this fella be classified as Whiskers or is that only reserved for the bad boys over 90cm. Some bloody good conditions in the background too.
  2. I dont mind doing reviews but agree that being bombarded with 20 emails a week asking for reviews can get pretty frustrating. I recently changed energy provider and since then i get 5 phone calls a week from unknown "energy deals" companies trying to sell me solar, cheaper rates. At first i was polite and said im not interested but its been 7 months now and i still get phone calls so now i just hang up🤷‍♂️
  3. We continue to say things like, "cant legislate against stupidity" however i really dont think it is stupidity or arrogance. For some people who did not grow up by the ocean, did not grow up learning how to swim. The risks are just not obvious to them. How many aussies have we heard about disappearing or dying in foreign countries. They must all think we are stupid right? Logic dictates that education and exposure is the answer to the problem, but a few seem to think that is a waste of time. Respectfully, that is a very short sighted view taken by a few who have had the benefit of growing up by the seaside. The type of education we are talking about does not have an immediate effect. It takes years. You will not be able to educate or get the message through to every person, but a few will learn. They will hang out with other fishos from their community, what was learned will get passed on. As a community they grow and become more educated on the subject matter. I have experienced this in recent years in my own community. Keeping of undersize fish used to be very common, they either didn't know about the laws or if they did, they didn't care. Yes totally unacceptable. These days, most fishos in my community are very well educated on the subject matter and i dont know a single one that keeps undersize fish. Yes i know that keeping undersize fish is policed whilst rock fishing is not........but i assure you the change did not come from the policing. Its pride and education in the sport we love. We will never be able to achieve zero rock fishing deaths, in the same way that we will never reach zero car deaths, or zero beach swimming deaths. Sometimes accidents do genuinely happen, sometimes some people genuinely are stupid and dont care. In those circumstances theres not much we can do really. HenryNSW - honestly the best thing you can do is educate yourself on rock fishing safety as much as you possibly can, and then make sure you communicate what you have learnt with those in your community, and also encourage them to do the same. The message will get out eventually.
  4. This is an interesting topic. Swimming at the beach is engrained in the Aussie upbringing. Most aussies visit the beach from when they are only a few years old. We grow up loving the beach. Therefore, the risks associated with the ocean, at face value, to us seem like "common sense". It is very well known that most of the drownings on rock ledges are foreigners. These fisherman often do not have the same exposure to the ocean and thus have never been exposed to the risks. Its like packing your bags and moving to Mexico only to get stung by a scorpion walking to the grocery store on your first day. And then the locals point and laugh and say your stupid. My point is...... these fishos are not ignorant or stupid. Its just a matter of exposure and experience. I guess that doesnt really help the situation. But i think sometimes we forget how lucky we are as aussies to grow up by the ocean. Its not a luxury everyone has.
  5. Its been strange. Despite the very warm water off Sydney i havebt heard any reports of dollies in good numbers on the FADS yet. Better luck next time champ
  6. Thanks everyone. Much appreciated
  7. Could have left a few off the list to give others a few to put down 🤣🤣 You definately watched too much tv. My favourite cartoons had to be captain planet, angry beavers.
  8. Mate im glad you and your fishing friends are all safe. It could have turned out worse. It seems as though you are doing your homework. Keep it up. Do some more reading about safety and dangers of rock fishing. There's also lots of good videos on youtube. Your on the right track, stay safe, catch some fish!
  9. me too...... i have all my safety flares, V sheet etc inside the cabin. Sounds like that needs to change.
  10. Good on ya Jeff for coming to their rescue. So glad it ended well. Im with the boys, scratching my head as to how a 2019 model tub can sink in 30 seconds. The only thing i can think of that would make them sink so fast is a cracked hull.
  11. Thats a quality mixed bag Yowie. Some of the best seafood available in Sydney for sure !
  12. Ive fished weekends all my life. If you get in early you will be fine. The part time and inexperienced boaties, along with every jet ski in sydney usually rock up around 8.
  13. I must have missed this thread previously. Glad you went with the instantaneous. its the best option BY FAR, and take it from me, on my projects ive installed every type of hot water heating you can possibly imagine. Back when solar hot water made its break into the market, it only made commercial sense because of the government subsidization, otherwise it would have taken 10 years just to pay off the unit and break even. Now with the enhancement of solar the performance is alot better but still nothing competes with instantaneous gas when it comes to hot water heating.
  14. Gday Raiders I am appealing to those who know a thing or two about plants - specifically - indoor plants. My beloved indoor plants (Bird of Paradise & Kentia Palm) have recently developed a type of fungus or mould? It is white, soft and fluffy and falls off with a touch by the hand or a wipe with the cloth. My house is very well ventilated, the plants are located adjacent to a window which is open all day and only closed at night, to the left hand side but not visible in the image below is a 1.8m wide sliding door, again glass screen open all day with fly screen closed. Does anyone know what to do with this ? I asked the guys at my local flower power but they were useless. Thanks
  15. Well Brendan. I read your report yesterday and almost passed out. Its taken a full day to recover ! So now im back 🤣 Mate, awesome stuff and a real dream experience for many, that would have been a shit tonne of fun !
  16. We had one out, a teaser chain. Just not clearly visible in the vid
  17. Light Gauge Pakula hooks. Trying to increase the hook up rate by going light and even then still tricky !!! What hooks are you using? 🤣🤣 id never do that !
  18. Awesome vid Z !!! Youll have to excuse my intensity guys ! I promise i wasnt like that the whole day 🤣
  19. Your not wrong Zoran. Its a serious itch, and it needs to be scratched in 2021 or i might go mad ! This year already a few marlin strikes but cant get the hooks to stick. Its bound to happen soon !! (i hope 🤞🤞🤞)
  20. Thanks Lakelad - its pretty awesome - Browns is circa 40km from the coast and you could see kilometres of empty ocean only to arrive at Browns and see 30 boats floating on the one spot. For those who are interested in cooking, here are some snaps of the dish i prepared last night. Very simple marinade, garlic, butter, lemon juice, cracked pepper and salt put into a blender.
  21. Thanks for all the replies fellas - it certainly was a very enjoyable day on the water and yes, boat traffic was pretty intense. It was quite funny because on the shelf we were doing 55km on the way in on almost glass out conditions, only to be met with really bad chop inside the harbour. lots of boat traffic and wakes etc. Yes indeed Browns saved the day for us ! I think between the two of us we managed well at Ermo ramp, we did a quick drop off and retrieve considering the surrounding chaos. Thanks again mate your a champ! Thanks KC - I am happy to report that no rigs or weights were lost on my first attempt ! That would have been hilarious, not easy to come by a 2kg weight too 😆 Thanks Jeff. It seems that would be the case, who wants to have me onboard next !! i am available saturdays and sundays on the same note - is there anyone out there with an uncanny ability to boat marlin who would be more than welcome to hop onboard with me please 😂
