@flatheadluke that would be the way for you to do it ?

The house we rented through a friend of a friend and then through Air B&B, Had a nice big grass play area about 50mtrs wide before they got down to the shallow water, So plenty of room to play without risk and they can paddle in the shalows, throw rocks and look at little fish.

The wharf was great to sit and fish, while watching the world go by and with no cars and great people the holiday was relaxing.

It would be a great alternative if you have young kids, they will be tucked nicely into bed while your freezing for hairtail and during the day plenty of walks and outdoor things to tire them and you out.

If the weathers crap it can be a little harder as you have to pack everything and everyone into the boat to get to the houses on Bar Point but there is other locations you can reach by car,

  2. Also a alternative to hiring a house boat is renting a house on the water, we have stayed at Bar point which had a private wharf and parking for two boats.

nice warm house and your boat is in the water ready to go.

  3. Hey Jim

    Thanks for the reply

i asked the same question to a mate who I know only buys top quality gear and he said stick with Shimano for ease of service and he and I have never had a issue with Shimano.

So I will be a one Brand man looks like the Ultegra will be my upgrade Reel.

Which means I can service myself after watching the videos on Fishraider.

    thanks

    Jeff

I have used the Soldiers Point ramp before, but it is a bit of a car trip from Gov Rd Shoal bay, to then drive the boat back to Shoal Bay,  is the local Shoalbay Ramp ok to launch a 5.4 Alloy by yourself?

also can i beach it or anchor it just off the beach, it while i park the car or would Little beach be better.

I have a Ford Ranger 4x4 but may be towing it with a Nissan Pathfinder FWD.

  5. I had one on my old 4.3mtr dinghy with a Johnson 25hp but when i swapped to a 2007 Mercury 25hp it didnt have one, did i notice a difference, not really, they both planed about the same

But it could be that the 1981 Johnson was tired and old and the foil helped the old motor and the newer 2007 mercury would have performed even better with the foil.

My friend has one  (SE Sports) on his fiberglass 16ft bowrider with a 115hp Yamaha and and he swears it has made a difference especially to lower speed planning which helps with vision and fuel economy.

I have thought about sticking one on my motor, but haven't go round to it.

  6. I once went on a fishing charter a couple of years back after work, it was rough so i took 2 sea sick tablets, combined with 2 beers, dinner and i had been up since 5am.

I drove home 4hrs later at 11pm and fell asleep at the set of lights on Epping rd at the Uni, 10mins from home, who knows how long i had been there i only woke up when the car behind was blasting the horn as they went past, i remember the drive and thinking, the lights are red, i will just close my eye for a minute.

    My Tip

I drive long distances for work regularly and i pull over and having a 15min power nap, its amazing how that 10 or 15mins helps, i go from eye drooping to wide awake.

Syd - Canberra when i leave Syd at 4.30am, i stop at the federal hwy for 15mins and im still in Canberra ready to work at 7.45am

Canberra - Syd usually after working all day i have to stop just before Goulburn as i am buggered and the traffic hasn't built up yet so, i want to be fresh when i hit Campbeltown traffic.

Syd - Tamworth when i leave at 5am, i usually stop about 4hrs that way i feel fresh and ready to work when i arrive on site.

    Hey Jeff,

Dependent on when it is illtry make it this year.

    Ric.

    Whatever

Everyone who comes fishing on my boat borrows all my gear, so I thought that was the done thing.

    maybe some pointers

    1. Rod type and weight

    2. Reel size needed

    4. Hook type & size

    5. Trace or no trace

    6. Bait type

    Great

Come to think about it this could become a game changer for other sites. If Donna is successful in introducing a small fee other sites will follow.

Plenty of forums already do charge and Thoses that don't charge have pop up ads and lots of sponsors.

i think a membership fee will be fine, and as Donna said there will still be free access.

  10. Thanks for Stewy and Donna and to the moderators as well. Been great being a member for a couple of years, have made a couple of new friends and that's always a good thing.

    Donna

any chance of one last run of Fishraider stickers, so we can ID members on the water long after the Forum has been retired to the ethers.

im happy to organise with someone like Vistaprint if you have a template we can use.

  11. Step 1: Make sure the battery is fully charged, any battery shop or good mechanic can load test the battery, our local will do that and even put it on charge over night to ensure its properly charged.

Step2: Make sure all electrical connections are cleaned and corrosion removed

Step 3: Do a compression test, check the spark plugs are clean, working and the right plug type and heat range($20 replace them if unsure of age or condition)

Step 4: Check the carby for air leaks, fuel leaks and operation

Step%: Check the fuel hose if pumping enough fuel, i had one that the bulb had started to collapse and even though the bulb felt hard there was only a little fuel flowing through until it started and the motor took over the pumping.

    P.s

One or two squirts of starter fluid isn't going to damage the old engine, there will be that much lube in the system and your not running your motor on it,

After it starts its running on oil and petrol, plus its less dangerous than trying to squirt a fuel mix into the carby, one quick spray and turn the key.

But best to check the above and repair the fault than cover it with a starting fluid, but the fluid might help in diagnosis if all of the above checks out.

  12. IMG_4443.JPGWas working in Tamworth for the last couple of days and spotted this in the local shop.

since I am going to be working there for the next 2yrs on and off, might have to have a crack.

i spotted heaps of carp from the Dam wall and most were massive 60cm or more with one that had to be easily 80cm, to bad it's illegal to fish at the Dam wall as these carp know they are safe.
