  1. What type of boat were you looking for a run about, bowrider or bigger?

I drove both before buying the 2016 Stacer 539 bowrider with Evo Hull, there was no real noticeable difference to my untrained eye.

Some people will tell you the quintrex is better because of the front design, others will tell you the Evo rear end is better designed so it will be better.

The Stacer was meant to handle turns better than the Quintrex but i couldn't pick much difference

I ended up with the Stacer as it was $$ cheaper, the Gunnels were flat on the inside side so sitting and cleaning is easier, although it does let the hose water into the boat, when washing down but less gaps for salt to hide,

The Stacer also came with the sports seats rather than the standard seat. Storage was very similar if not the same between the Q 510 and S539.

Sorry could be more helpful, but either one you will love.

  2. One of the managers here in our QLD office rang me excited to say he has put down a $20k deposit on a Brig Eagle 10 with twin 350 Yamaha 4 strokes, Which would be insane power.

He currently has a 6mtr or 7mtr rib with a 225Hp Etec and wanted a bigger unit. He said they should have one or something similar at the Sydney Boat show and if he makes it down we will go for a run, will be taking the GoPro for that ride.

  3. Hi All

    Here is my community service

Being 40yr and growing up in a typical Aussie kid at the beach or out skiing on the boat, Last year i decided its time to get my skin checked, I went to my local Medical Centre who also had a skin specialist and after a good look over was given the all clear.

Great, Well it was great but i still had doubts about a red itchy spot on my right arm,

i spoke to a few people and got a recommendation from a friend about a Dr in Nth Sydney who only does Skin checks, She said he can be a little trigger happy with burning things off but he was good.

So two weeks later mid Aug and i rolled into his office and within two minutes he said the spot on my arm doesn't look good, he did a Biopsy and then froze the buggar, Then proceeded to freeze 8 other suspect spots and recorded 4 others to check again in 6mths.

The biopsy came back as Bowen disease, which is a form of Skin Cancer and left untreated can be quite aggressive.

I have just gone back for my 6mth check up and again i have had 3 age spots frozen (One on my nose so think Rudolph) but was given the all clear and im on to yearly inspections now.

    So remember

Just like you do to the kids:

    Put on a Hat

    Wear Sunglasses

    Sunscreen regularly

Wear a Rash vest when on the water or at the beach, take it off to show the Abs if you need to, but put it back on.

50+ rated clothing while fishing in the Sun

    Plenty of Water

Get your skin checked along with all the other checks ups.

  4. I use a range of weights depending on depth, 1/8 and 1/4 oz and size 2/0 jig head and a 2.5 or 3.0 Zman Grub (paddle tail) in Motor Oil or Aromic Chicken.

    i also use Sfactor scent

i am no expert and I have only caught about 4 legal flatties and a bunch of bream In about 6 outings

i do the double lift and slight wind method.

i wish there was somewhere to tie up at Shoalie while I park/retrieve the trailer!

    Hey Berlyguts

i have done the beach and park at shoalbay when the waves are not big and it's worked ok just using the bow anchor.

i have also dropped the Bow anchor about 8 - 10mtrs from shore and then reversed in and use the stern anchor to hold the boat in place when waves and wind are a issues while I parked the car.

I have a Honda CRV Diesel. I tow a 4.55 polycraft without too much fuss. The CRV has a towing capacity of 2,ooo kilos. So, I'm pretty sure if you got the diesel you'd be ok.

Diesel, we didn't get a diesel CRV option here in Aust until something like 2014 unless it's a Jap import.

The front diff of a CRV are not LSD, so it's really only 1 drive wheel at the front, spin that and it then transfers to the rear which is also not a LSD so it then drives only one rear wheel.

my Mate who owns Honbits Autos wreckers in Smithfield, used to thrash the 2003 / 2005 CRVs on his 360acre property but due to the above they could not handle it, So he now has a bunch of Suzuki Vitaras which cop a hammering.

    p.s

they are great cars had one for 10yrs and only thing I spent on it was wear and tear items.

it towed my 4.4mtr tinnie and gear for a family holiday well.

Any bigger and you will find the short comings really quickly, it definitely struggled to tow my 5.4 Stacer Bowrider and all I wanted to do was move it down the road, I think my Stacer weights 1290kg plus fuel, gear and extra equipment.

  7. That coil does seem like it's seen better days.

maybe give the coil a clean up and clean the plugs and see if that helps

or if you can find a new or good 2nd hand unit to try.

the top and bottom coil  should be the same.

i have wrapped a coil with electrical tape in dodgy spots to get it to hold together and stop arching and get me home it also confirmed the coil was on its way out.

  8. I think you have pretty much all items I would suggest covered.

After watching the video I think it's a spark issue more than a fuel issue, fuel will just die, spark will cause it to jitter like it did.

    1. Re check spark plugs, gap and condition

    2. Running it at night without a cover and see if the spark plug leads are arcing to part of the block,

    3. Check the coils for signs of damage or the white marks from Arcing.

  9. I haven't noticed any difference in my catch rate when using circles or other hooks, but the do make it easier to catch and release the fish when I have the kids aboard, as all fish go back in the water unless it's a flathead they go in the pan for lunch.

  10. If you want to wake board using the Bait board / ski pole design, i would have a smaller diameter pole put inside to strengthen it as the force from a wake boarder maybe to much.

The guy who made mine may also be able to use a thicker wall pole.

I prefer the higher rope for skiing over the ski clips, although ski clips allow a better set up and wider range of movement as the skier / wake boarder.

  11. I have fished the Syd Harbour many times at night and early mornings.

i know it like the back of my hand after traveling it since I was 8yrs with my first dinghy and most weekends with my Dad.

i only have the regulation night lights on, but do wear a headlamp just in case.

my mate wears clear safety glasses as we like to stand up above the screen to have better vision.

just be careful who u follow as I once followed a pair as they were going faster than me and just before they hit the rocks off Mortlake (wangal Park) I thought Jeez these guys are to far right.

the red marker was broken and they just clipped the rock, no damage but their motor took a hit.

just like driving a car in the rain, little throttle and keep a good look out.

  12.  I had a $295 custom made bait board made with a longer pole 600mm and a lug welded into the pole just below the bait board to hold the rope above the motor and 3 rod holders, just missing two drink holders for the side.

then I drilled a hole through it and installed a double threaded stud which the factory Ski pole braces bolt to which gives it extra support.

so far I have towed the 3 person Ski tube around for about 5 days continuously with 3 kids weighing 120kg / 3 adults weighing 276kg and there has been no flex of the pole.

as a back up I was going to get a slightly smaller  diameter pole and insert it to give it strength but it hasn't needed it.

If I did it again I should have got the pole 650mm to grive a bit more head clearance when sitting on the rear seat. But then you would need the inner pole for strength.

I put a arrow on the bottom photo to show the lug position and you can see the support bar location and the wash down drain tube as well.

  13. So I popped my Podcast cherry thanks to a drive to Tamworth.

i downloaded to my IPhone and it played through my car stereo via the USB charging cable which connects it throu the Aux port.

it certainly was good since radio reception leaves after Gosford and doing this trip 3 times in 4 weeks I have listen to my limited supply of music.

time to download more and see what else is on pod casts for me.

    thanks Raging

  14. I would give them a call and let them know about it and tell them you would like it noted and you will monitor it over the next couple of trips.

Make sure you take down their name / time and date of call, to back up the claim.

Then just see if it does it again, it may have been a one off Switch got jammed or the switch could be on its way out.

  15. Had a great Anzac weekend in Shoalbay, not crowded was very quiet compared to other weekends and perfect weather each day.

Not much luck on the fishing stakes, but didn't real put any effort into it as the boat was always full of kids or family.

The whole family loved watching the dolphins everyday, We also saw a Large Turtle, 4 Penguins and a small shark chasing some bait on the surface.

Plenty of towing the kids on the Tube and swimming at any beach we pulled up at.

Since i had my 4x4 Ute i launched at Little beach and Shoal bay without issue, although with low tide being in the middle of the day the ramps were not to sandy when i retrieved in the afternoon on a rising or high tide.

I think with i could retrieve and launch at both with the wife's Nissan Pathfinder 2wd if i time the tides well, but being a Aluminum bowrider there isn't much weight to pull out. Which would save me dealing with 3 kids fighting over leg room in the back of a dual cab ute as the extra row of seats in welcomed.

    Thanks for the Tip Scratchie
