  1. That's good the Alternator is working and the batteries are holding charge.

now check all wiring connections, inline fuses, remove and clean / replace any connectors.

After that run a power wire to the gauge and if nothing then it's time to replace the gauge.

  2. my tips

    1. Make sure your car can tow the boat you want, including gear and fuel.

    2. Buy the newest boat you can with the biggest motor fitted, under powered boat suck.

    3. Ask for service records or receipts, self service is fine but they should have the parts invoices to show what they have changed when servicing the outboard and trailer.

    4. It's a buyers market and boats are like buses there will be another one along and it could be better.

    5. Factor in options into your price, if you have to replace repair things you may want to price them up as you may blow the budget.

    6. Go for a test drive, tow it with your car and launch the boat and have a drive.

    7. If in doubt spend $250 and get a mobile boat Mech to check it out.

  3. I have two or 3 actually, rectangle bag is my only bag i use now.

I have the hard Plano 3 tier tackle box, its empty as i didn't like it, great as a back up, put a few bits and pieces in it and stow away in the boat to get you by when you forget your tackle bag.

I have a Rectangle bag with 4 side pockets and 1 internal pocket, this is my go to bag, it has 2 medium sized divided tackle boxes (Hooks in one, SP & Lures in the other), 1 small divided tackle box (Sinkers & Swivels). The side pockets have my pliers, scissors, headlamp, Hook 5, SP Attractant. There is still a bit of room for spare line, Squid Jigs, floats and bits and pieces.

I also have a Back Pack, which used to get a bit of use when i didn't have a boat or i had the small boat and 3 kids with me, it was just a medium to large sports back pack, i used the same plastic divider trays as above, the advantage was it had loops which i could put my rod in to give me a free hand to hold my little ones hands when crossing roads.

This looks the goods as a cross between a back pack and tackle bag.

Just to complete this I ended up Purchasing the Shimano Stradic FK Hg in 2500 and 4000 sizes as they were on special for $199ea.

Should be a nice little upgrade from my old 2500 set up.

If anyone finds a Stradic 4000 and Shimano Cantana Rod in the harbour it will be mine, got hammered by a side wave, front wave from a very large cruiser going flatout and a tanker / tug boats. Just past Cockatoo island and before blues point Southside..

The new rod and reel unused was in a multi rod holder (Snapper rack type) and must have slipped out.I had it on the floor tucked away but was worried the tip might break.

So wish they floated but straight to Neptune's grave

    So gutted

  5. Easy way to check if it's gearbox fluid is to undo the bottom drain plug just a little until some gearbox fluid comes out. If it looks like mud then you have answerd your question. Which means you may have a gearbox seal issue.

if it's clean and Oil looking then you may have mud in you water jackets.

which would require removing the thermostat housing and thermostat and flushing the cooling system.some pipe cleaners used to unblock drain holes

Might be time to change the gearbox fluid if it hasn't been changed in a while. Do you know when it and the water pump impeller was changed?

Will be doing tubing and kneeboarding

How would that affect the performance of the hull design?

Stacer is reported to be better for water sports due to the hull design,  i haven't done water sports with a Quintrex but i am happy ripping 3 people around on a tube behind my Stacer.

If i have the boat trimmed right i get very little if any water spray over the bow, its a comfortable ride for a Alloy boat and i don't think any more water sprays in my boat compared to a Runabout, but i can fit people easier and i can have 1 extra person legally than the equiv 539 baymaster when out dolphin watching or going for a picnic on a private beach on the river.

But as i said i think you would be hard pressed to pick any difference between a Stacer or Quintrex that are the same production year.

So i would be buying the newest and best boat from either stable

  7. Hi Voiltan

Can totally see the thinking from your specialist.

i have only had the one spot which was Bowens, the rest were described as age spots.

I did ask and he told me he froze them off to prevent them from possibly becoming a concern in the future.

surprisingly I don't actually have lots of sun damage, now he has frozen these spots there is very little to see so hopefully next visit I won't have any to remove.

but it does go to show that even if you don't think you have any issues you should get a check up as I would not describe my self as fair skinned but am white.
