The swell is still big today, look for a sheltered end on the beach, be safe......
  2. It's just how they are, I doubt you're blacklisted. My local store is getting worse by the day, never go there now.
  3. This is the issue, rock fishing safety is a "bug" of mine, millions of people fish off the rocks, most never get into difficulty, but for some, it won't matter how many signs you put up, how many education classes you run, how many rules you make, a small percentage will never listen/learn. Certain locations are unique, no special shoes or gear will stop people being washed in, neither will a fence or sign stop them.
  4. Yeah I don't know, I just remember the Christmas tides when I was a kid were 6 foot and they came just to the top of the bank at the back of my place, occasionally they might just come up on the grass, now, they come right up into the park up the road, no idea how or what the difference is.
  5. I find it interesting how tides are now bigger than ever before, I have lived on a tidal estuary all my life and decades ago a "Christmas King tide" was about 1.8m (6 foot) but now 2m+ tides are common, why?
  6. The old Suzuki kind of decreases its value somewhat, make extra sure it has no rot, be pretty rare to find one that's OK.
  7. They made lots of models over the years, probably a few half cabs in different shapes.
  8. Just going by the "Bounty" on the side, best guess is a Monark?
  9. OK, if it's new, then it's quite simple.
  10. I think I need to clarify, is the boat NEW, or second hand? You said new in your first post, but maybe you mean "new to you" and it's second hand? makes quite a difference to how you go about it.
  11. It's a new boat, it will have a HIN, it will have a receipt, the trailer will have a VIN, most of the leg work is done.
  12. Didn't know about Huett closing up! I guess they decided that when Evinrude (BRP) stopped production, their time was up? When they do the water pump, make sure they replace the entire kit, not just the impeller, also make sure they use genuine parts, not cheap after market copies.
  13. Make sure you take it to a place that knows them well, a standard old boat mechanic will just change the plugs and gear oil and hand you the bill! I hear good things about Huett Marine for Evinrude.

    Next best thing.

We used to play at Narooma every year when we used to holiday there, there is one hole that is kind of on a "point" in the ocean, and the hole is on another point, across a steep (and very deep) ocean ravine. The "pro" tee makes you have to hit over the ravine, but the bodgy players tee is off to the side and way easier, but.......who wants to go the easy route? Armed with a handful of old balls, tee up, swing, straight into the water, tee up, swing, straight into the water, repeat! every now and then you hit a good one and make it across, such satisfaction when you do.

To give you an idea of my skills, my clubs would be, tee=driver, wedge out of the scrub, driver, wedge out of the scrub, then hit and hope next shot.....I have had a hole in one, I teed off, mishit it badly and went onto a green off to the side and into the hole (on the wrong green) but, it was a hole in one, so I claimed it!
  16. All the Samson fish I have caught were motley coloured when smaller and almost a red tinge when bigger (as distinct from the Kingfish green) are any of those photos Samson fish?

I play about 3 times a year, so certainly no expert, but, I do buy cheap balls and hit them into the water from in front of my house, it's quite satisfying when you hit a "good" shot! I play at Kiama and one particular tee is set up high on a hill, from up there it seems like you're going to hit the ball for miles, very disappointing when you tee off then have to run to the edge of the hill to see your ball, after thinking you were going to slog it way along the fairway......
  18. Alvey reels take a bit of effort for first time users, but once you get the hang of them, they are great, especially for just casual beach or rock fishing, no worries with water or sand, or a bang on a rock, just a quick hose when you get home, job done. Back in the heady land based gamefishing days at Jervis Bay, my mate landed a 65KG Yellowfin off the rocks, with a no drag Alvey, a long beach rod and 25LB mono, at times that spool was just a blur, as he "palmed" it to slow the fish down.
  19. Just goes to show, keep at it, use the best bait you have and you will still catch fish, even in heavily populated locations, you just have to put the time and effort in.
  20. Not too sure I personally would keep that Wrasse thing, they have a rather degrading nickname, and not that flash to eat (in my opinion)
  21. Yep agree, no political party could bring back car manufacturing, White goods manufacturing, TV manufacturing, or Alvey reels, it's just never going to happen. That door is shut, locked and bolted long ago.
  22. Not too sure too many Trevally are netted, they live in rocky terrain, so netting is not so easy to do.
  23. Silver Trevally, distinguished by the black spot on the gill cover, very common catch.
  24. Not too sure of their max, I have just caught them about 30cm long.
  25. This is a Pink Ling name Genypterus blacodes,
