  1. yeah the magnum is heavier in the butt section than the standard Distance Spin. but you have sparked my interest i havent heard about the viper! another rod i looked at was the Dawia Coastal Tournament, but these are a bit lighter again. cheers Chris
  2. top gear! although I would recomend the Magnum Butt Nitro for heavier work (i have one and love it, but still get reefed by good fish on occasion) I use a Dawia Theory 4000, a lot more line capacity then the Symetre (i wanted to use it for Tuna spinning also) but i rate the symetre a bit higher in the a) HSS stakes and smoothness of drag. The Nitro Mahnum though is an awsome rod, and perfect length for boat or some light spin work off the stones at 7'6" Chris
  3. nice reddie mate, thats not your boat your on is it? PS : Minn Kota addition to 480 now complete
  4. try small metals or 3" Bass Minnows. Should these also fail drop a live bait down, squid or yakkas have been working. If they are boiling up they should be tempted by smaller lures, but you never know... they are fussy fish at times.
  5. hehehehe it certainly is fun getting pulled around by a kingie from the canoe,do you know the guys name? cheers Chris
  6. easily done in a dingy, I fish for kings from my 13' canoe sometimes , just pick weekday mornings and you will get less traffic and hopefully no wind, makes life much easier.
  7. certainly makes some sense to me, it has been warm in the bay (and river) for a while now.
  8. very sad, what happened to the "Jew"el of Sydney!??
  9. Fuji FinePix S5000, 3.1/6mp , 10x Optical Zoom, top camera and easy to use
  10. well done mate, nice to see cobes off Sydney
  11. Top report and pics, good to see Nick put you onto some fish! I will have to have another crack with him soon, our last outing wasnt all that productive...it was a hrad day, but fun
  12. If you are fishing for Kings, Salmon, Tailor it really helps to slow it down and use smaller poppers or sluggos. By Slow I mean cast let it sit the twitch quickly with the rod tip as you wind. Sometimes flatout retrives work to stir up the fish, but a jerky stop and start retrieve works best for me. cheers Chris
  13. top pics, that rat fin would have been fun on that gear! cheers Chris
  14. both good rods and the price is good, I would go with a dropshot for the faster action and in my opinion better build quality,i have a few and love them all. Chris
  15. Gday Mottyman, I tried Nitlon and Siglon and noticed no noticible improvement in my catches (bream and bass from the canoe) I also like to use surface lures and find that the fluro likes to sink, pulling lighter lures under the surface and impeding the action. plus, mono is cheaper and comes in big spools
  16. I have never used a flurocarbon leader, straight Daiwa mono (good quility, not the elcheapo spools) for me from 4lb - 20lb, then i use Penn 10X for heavier leaders.
  17. yes i had a spool of 10lb with absolutly no knot strength at all, no matter what knot i tied it would break under the slightest tension. send your spool back and get a new one.
  18. betts spin, size and weight dependant on conditions, from 2" to 4" curl tail grub attack minnow RMG scorpion/sneaky scorpion river2sea bubblepop or buggipop kokoda buggachug 3" Bass Minnow 1/8 to 1/2oz spinnerbaits killalure packrat
  19. I have been doing a heap of shallow water fishing from the canoe in the last few weeks, cleaning up on bream and lizards, the three top lures used 1. RMG sneaky scorpion 2. Attack Minnow 3. Smilin Jack raw prawn
  20. i have just started doing this from my boat too.,use a 2 hook rig, one through the top of the head and one through the bottom of the cape, use a sinker size relevent to the depth you are fishing.
  21. must have missed it first time round, great idea, also could be of assistance with Marine Park Battles, giving average fishraiders the chance to get involved.

    Garie Beach

There is really only oneoption for rocks at Garie, large platform at the northern end. I ussually flick metals there for tailor and salmon.
  24. I have just been made aware that the $%^&* group, setup to combat the Marine Parks has now a website and forums, please join up and show your support, all anglers need to band together here to ensure that we get the outcome that suits all parties. http://www.$%^&*.com/ Chris
