  1. when you give me some of those ones i saw in action in ya pool, ill add em to the list
  2. depends where we are targetting them, but these are the outfits i use from light to heavy light === Berkley Dropshot 6'8" 2 - 5kg Dawia Laguna / Shimano Symetre 2500 10lb Finns medium ===== Nitro Magnum Butt 7'6" Daiwa Theory 4000 14lb Fireline heavy cast/troll ========== Silstar Heavy Jig 6' Shimano Spheros 8000 30lb Finns lures ---> 6" or 9" Sluggos or Berley 4"/5" stickbaits or squidgy flickbaits just need one more outfit for work off the rocks
  3. 60 -70 jew nights, 100+ jew nice average Mr Ellis
  4. 1. How many jewies would you catch in a year (i.e. <1, 10, 50, 100!!??) - include all kept and released fish ? 6 2. What $ value would you outlay to catch an average size jewie (say 4-5 kg). Include in your answer the total cost you would outlay for a trip to target jews specifically (i.e. beer , bait, tackle, boat fuel etc)? As a guide this answer would typically be in the range of $20 - $100). easily $20 to $40 depending on location. 3. What $ value would you put on the experience of catching an average sized jew (i.e. aesthetic value). Try comparing the enjoyment you get out of it with the enjoyment you may get from a night on the drink that cost you $100 (Dont inflate this one too much)? $10 for an averged sized one, $100 per kilo over 7kg 4. If there were more jews in a system (i.e. stocking jewfish resulted in better catch rates), would you go fishing more for them. This is especially relevant for those who fish for the fun of it but release their catch? no would not fish for them any more than i do today 5. How many nights a year would specifically go fishing to target jewfish? 20
  5. what rod are you going to put it on? for live baiting i would go higher than a 4000, maybe a spheros 8000 or 12000, you never know when a tune might take your bait and you need the capacity
  6. seabreeze is pretty reliable, buoy weather says roughly the same NW/NNW 7 - 11kts 4am to 10am
  7. check this site out : http://www.shorefishingaustralia.com.au cheers Chris
  8. i just picked up a spheros 8000 for my jigging stick, only landed rat kings on 30lb with it , but feels great love the drag (time will tell if it really is waterproof) cheers Chris
  9. no worries, take a look at the Live Fibre Spin Rods 8' 6 - 10kg or 15 - 25kg, around the $230 mark
  10. Chucking Big Sp's with a livebait rod will not be a problem, but throwing unweighted sluggos will be. A nice 8/9ft 10kg/15kg stick will happily livebait and also allow you to throw 40gm+ lures.
  11. not really.... but what you are asking for you are going to need a compromise one way or the other.
  12. Ok for River work you dont need something massive and could probably get away with something like the squidgy Barra, that style of rod would be the best compromise in terms of throwing lures around as well. Of course it depends on the river system, but generally you will be looking at smallish kings so you should be safe, that rod will handle a jew pretty easily too (I used to have a squidgy Barra but found it a little too stiff for the majority of my plastic work. Other wise get a 9ft or so cheap PENN (kmart $60) for livebaiting and spends a few extra Dollars for a nice 7 or 8ft Med-Heavy Spin rod with a nice tip to chuck plastics around (can highly recommend the Nitro Magnum Butt - $269.00)
  13. Landbased from the river or the stones?
  14. Where did that report come from? byouweather shows 5 - 10kts NNE/NNW Most of Sat, with around a 1m Swell, seabreeze.com.au also. Sunday look messy though
  15. Top stuff sharky you're not wrong Phil, was just saying to a mate last night that we have caught more kings in the last 2months then all of last season!! and i thought last season was unreal
  16. I thought i answered this already, mustnt have?? likewise go for the symetre, sorry to say it but it poo's allover my Dawia Laguna and Theory's cheers Chris
  17. it's fun getting done over by a king though nicer to get one i know, but i still enjoy a good dusting!
  18. Top Stuff mate I got my 1st Landbased Plastic Jew this year also, what a buzz!
  19. Agree with Andrew, if your flicking plastics for jews and kings the BR will be too heavy, I would look at the 4000 (or even 6000 if you want more grunt) Stradic, Capricorn, Theory etc... for reference I have a 4000 Theory on a Nitro Magnum Butt, but then most of my jews and rat kings have been caught on my berkley dropshot bream rod/2500 laguna/10lb braid..... Chris
  20. no , lost a big one and dropped a small one close to the boat, also lost a breambo... got about 3 hours fishing in on Saturday and some boating , peed down all Sunday and the boat was high and dry most of the day (oops forgot about the tide when tying up Saturday arvo) saw a few 80cm plus fish and one absolute mother that was WELL over 1m (estimate 1.2/1.3m), just wallowing in about 2m of super clear water.
  21. nice work mate, saw some mega lizards this weekend, but reckon i could catch em!
  22. now ya talkin' Nice jew mate, will have to get that canoe out for a shot at them
