  10. Yeah mate all eggbeaters were stellas only reel to use... The overalls mean wet weather pants were needed ... Plus they were easy to wash .... Mate the rod i was using is rated to deadlift 26kg , it was still bending . .....
  11. Hi Everyone , Well with the Kingfish being a little quiet a quick trip to New Zealand was made to catch a few , only problem was the Wind... We did manage to fish 2 days in 30 knot winds as the other days were 70 knots and the worst storms to hit New Zealand in 50 years ... Overall cosidering the weather we did manage some decent fish all released and all on jigs, hopefully the weather cant be as bad next year ... cheers Dogtooth..... John....
  12. Well done on the John Dory Jim... As a youngster wollomolloo wharfs where the flash units are use to hold plenty as well as Ruscutters bay wharfs where all the sailing boats are . Still remember walking around with livies in a bucket waiting to see on what looked like a plastic bag and cast a livie to them on a hand line , sight fishing at its best . If only soft plastics were invented back then... Cheers Dogtooth.... John.....
  13. Good fish Jim... Mate they will only get bigger in the next couple of months...Cant wait.. cheers Dogtooth...... John.....
  14. Downriggers Cristened And you didn't lose your bomb , mate the best asset for fishing you could have put on your boat , and a second net incase you forget one or for when both downrigger rods go off and every man for himself. cheers Dogtooth..... John.....
  15. Hi Finn , I had not been to browns in over a year and was one of the guys in a tinnie 5.6 metre centre console , the weather was that good i would have taken a 14 foot tinnie out there . It was rather funny as i got to browns and had to recheck my gps as i was the first boat there . It all comes down to being confident in the boat you own and experience at sea and knowing how to drive to conditions and most importantly fishing wide when the weather reports let you. Anyway we had a similar day with 4 gemfish biggest 6kg , 1 perch and 1 blueye 15.5kg . And if you had a boat come up and ask you how you were going and gave you gemfish that was me , but deepwater fish do not release so it was better to give them away than throw them away dead . Stopped fishing the bottom by 10 as i was just killing gemfish... cheers Dogtooth..... John......
  16. Well done on the Salmon , good to see someone made it out between all the windy days . cheers Dogtooth.... John.....
  17. Hi everyone , Well i have had permatrims on 2 boats that i owned and if your looking at planning quicker and carrying weight , Hydrofoils will make an improvement especially if your boat is underpowered . Sure you may lose 2 knots of top speed but the saving is that your boat will plain at a lower rpm . The first test boat was a savage kestral 4 metre with a 25 hp 2 stroke , this boat struggled to plane with 2 guys on board it was fitted with a permatrim and planed with 3 people with little effort and lots of fishing gear . The second boat was a 5.6 metre plate boat fitted with a 60 hp 2 stroke this boat really struggled loaded with gear untill a permatrim was fitted after that the boat performed very well . The motor was replaced to a 115 hp 4 stroke this year and on its first outing i was not happy at top speed trimmed down all the way , the boat porpised and carried on at top speed . A permatrim was fitted and the porpise problem was fixed and i was able to carry lots of weight in the bow compared to when no permatrim was fitted . Yes you can always weight shift around your boat and move stuff around but with a permatrim there is no need . As for following seas i have never had an issue with wild handling problems caused by permatrims and my steering is still light no need for hydraulic steering , Hope this helps .... Happy Permatrim owner Cheers Dogtooth..... John....
  18. Top session on the Blackfish rickster and steve Cheers Dogtooth.... John...
  19. What a great read , I have often thought about fishing that stretch of river i guess one day i will have to make the venture in and give it a fish , I guees its all about getting out as you cant fish in your lounge room now can you . Once again im sure you have inspired a few raiders next year, it may be a raiders couple of days away camp and fish seasion . cheers Dogtooth.... John....
  20. Hi framedtrash , As Sz1 said mate the daiwa advantage 4000 is a great reel and the daiwa 10lb to 20lb rod 7 foot is a great setup . I use this exact setup for plastics fishing for snapper , lure tossing and so on caught a few kings on it to . Unfortunately not the best travelling rod for planes as it is 1 piece . Cheers Dogtooth... John....
  21. Good trolling lure for bonito , tailor , salmon Try the pilchard colour pattern as well... cheers Dogtooth.... John....
  22. Well done on the kings Nothing better than jigging kings with guys that have never jigged before . It sure has been firing down there.... Cheers Dogtooth..... John....
  23. Hi prawnstar , Have a look at the shimano saragoosa 14000f , little bit better than the spheros . 13 kg of drag is plenty you would be lucky to fish more than 11 kg of drag on a t curve 200 without breaking the rod . There are some reels that claim to have 30kgs of drag but in reality i am yet to see a spinning rod let alone angler hold on to a rod with 30kgs of drag . Cheers Dogtooth...... John....
  24. Well done Andy , Your blue shark footage is a classic , Who needs a fishing rod..... Cheers dogtooth...... John....
  25. well done on your new PB Good feed of kings , I heard it was fairly quiet up there on kings this weekend gone. Cheers Dogtooth...... John....
