  1. G'Day all Wow! A new look site and a heap of new options. We're heading towards our 10,000th member and we've got some great new sponsors as well. Slinky (with some grateful assistant from Alan Tani) has created a reel maintenance section and it is a crackin' success! Today we're going to kick off yet another section – Adopt a Newbie. Admin has been considering this program for a while now, primarily due to the very generous information provided to the forum by many of its members, and the willingness of those less experienced to stick up their hand and request advice. Why not put the two groups together and share in their success? Here's how we would like to do it. Those of you who are having difficulty learning your desired fishing technique (whether it be bass on lures, fishing for kings, whatever), place your details into a post: Your name: Help Meout Your Location: Bakobourke Fishing technique: Jewfish on lure Availability: Weekends only Preferred location: Hawkesbury River Provide your own gear? Yes/No Provide your own boat? Yes/No Hopefully, a member who is experienced in this technique and location will then offer to take a 'newbie' out on the water and 'show them the ropes' When this occurs, let us know and we will open (and pin) a new topic in this section, and the new 'team' can post their report in there for all of us to follow their success. Easy! This is a terrific opportunity for less experienced members to receive one-on-one tuition, and for experienced members to share in the excitement of "My first Kingy!", "My first fish on surface lure!" etc. Let's hope this becomes one of our busiest forum sections, full of 'firsts', new friendships and a whole heap of photos. Good luck! Anyone who demonstrates this "fishraider spirit of assistance above and beyond" will be given a MENTOR badge for their signature and may be in the running for a grand prize PLEASE NOTE: Learners MUST be over 18. Minors are not allowed to be "adopted" unless accompanied by a parent or an adult known to them such as a family friend. The Administration Team

  11. Hi All, We have added a new section to Fishing Tackle called Reel and Tackle Maintenance. Your moderator slinkymalinky, who has a special interest in this will be looking after this area for us. Alan Tani will be in and around the area at times to answer queries too. Cheers mrsswordfisherman
  12. Thanks for that Tan. I have no idea how this thread has been allowed to go on with multiple members breaking site rules. When travelling overseas particularly to Asian or Pacific type destinations you get what you pay for George is quite right in saying that!!! I am a seasoned traveller and it is very easy to get ripped off unless you know the drill. If you are not prepared to pay the dollars for fishing then you will be wasting your time. You can get taken out and given rubbish gear to fish with, deckie and skipper that speaks no English or has no clue about fishing. They are purely looking to take your bucks. Golden Eagle charters is a reputable and very professional charter company and produces the goods consistently with a 51ft state of the art sportsfishing battlewagon. Anglers on Golden Eagle catch the fish of a lifetime not just some baitfish that weigh a couple of kgs that you can use as skipbaits. Seriously, if all you want to catch is stripies, go out in your tinnies out the front of Botany Heads and save yourself the time and money. Finally, Golden Eagle is our site sponsor. Without our sponsors we do not have fishraider, it would be closed. A message has been sent to all the jokers who broke site rules by plugging other charter companies in Fiji. Save your pennies and go with the best if you want that fish of a lifetime. Having said all that, there is nothing wrong with hiring a boat or taking a charter for half a day on a holiday. It is great to be out and having fun with the family. Just don't expect to catch the big fish if that is your main goal. mrsswordie

  17. Aw geez it was nuffin fellas. Seriously, it is a great family holiday. I have been travelling there since the early 70's and speak some Bahasa Indonesian. It is always great to get back up there and relax and have some fun. The fishing was an added bonus and ensured we all had a ball. I will make another post about the other side of things that you could show your wives and kids to pique their interest. Cheers mrsswordie
  18. Too true - always delete scam emails:) I was referring to the actual website only. For those wanting more info regarding the Do Not Call register check out all the info http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_100642 Thanks Roberta and thanks framedtrash for the info. Cheers mrsswordie
  19. The website is a government website that will show you details of the acts governing Do Not Call. I have registered here since its inception and have had very few rogue telemarketing calls that I can remember. Under these acts including the Privacy Act they are not allowed to sell your details to marketing companies. If you give details to companies then you will get calls and even sms texts. I am sick of Voda or Optus sending me stuff but I can't avoid it. Even clubs I am registered with send me sms. It is the electronic age and I am happy that the amount of print marketing is decreasing. Electronic marketing will always be there from now on however. mrsswordie
  20. CLICK HERE TO WATCH VIDEO ACTION AND SEE FULL REPORT HERE Cheers mrsswordie

  22. Thanks Snap'n - dont forget we have a KNOTS button up top of this forum that links to the fishraider animated knots. It is just to the left of the SEABREEZE button A 5 turn surgeon loop works a treat. Cut leader to length about 6 to 7 ft, cross the leader and braid about 6 to 8 inches, perform a backhand loop holding the upper and lower portions. On the right hand side take the tag end and the leader and wind together through the loop 5 times anticlockwise making sure that the leader comes completely through the loop as well as the tag end of the braid. Pull slowly tight all 4 pieces, lubricate and slowly pull tight till snug. Trim up close and presto it should slide through the guides. Cheers mrsswordie
