G'day MottyIt won't take long to crack your first bass, just keep plodding along. It's a bit like getting your first legal kingy from the Bay. That is a buggi-pop and I didn't give it much of a throw but Ozy was "chuckin'" his buggi-pop around and got at least a half dozen good wallops in the first half hour or so and throughout the day but unfortunately nothing connected. Ozy also lost a decent fish which bent his rod over almost touching the water but the hooks pulled/got spat out. It would have been a ripper of a fish too. I was using the betts spin and 2" grab for most of the morning. G'day Shane it is a nice bag and my sources tell me that there are only seven left in NSW but they are stuck "out back" and won't be retrieved till after stocktake. There are also a couple in Melbourne but that is it. G'day trouboy It's always best in the fresh and there's more to come. Lake Lyell is my next "boys" trip away so that should be good. Wenty lake is always good for a fish and I've fished it many times from when we lived in Wenty. Great choice in getting a canoe, it opens up a whole new world of fishing access but do yourself a favour, if you have a spare 250 dollars get yourself an electric motor. They make life a hell of a lot easier. G'day KenOld man wombat was a great site. It was just "hiding" behind this log and his head would just follow our every move and it looked like he was just as fascinated to see us. Also noted all the "industrious" (sp) water hens making there nests amongst all the fallen trees as well as getting........... . Darn males never seemed to give up.

G'day Raiders Been a while since I've posted a report, just too lazy I guess. Anyway I took Ozy for a spin in the canoe for a bass bash on the weekend and yes there were bass but I tell ya's what, when you see a wombat checkin' ya' out and laughing at you whilst retrieving a lure from a tree, it makes the whole day worth while.....bass or no bass. Best for the day went 38cm on the tape. Pic of the smallest. Anyways, that's all I've been up to lately. I've been going back to doing the fresh water stuff of late and more in the future with the trout as well which I enjoy so much more than the salt.......less cleaning to do afterwards. cheers Hooky

G'day there Pat Here's a pic of the rodholders I use for trolling up trout, Berkley brand and about $30 each. Don't know if they're the best but they seem to suit me and IMHO are good enough for trout especially if you, like me, use a low profile baitcaster for trolling as well as spin rods. I also have the Berkley quickset ones, I don't really recommend them for trolling with if you have rods with short butts but I still do use them at different stages and still good enough for what I need. Well, that's the first week back at work for the new year over with and boy was it a long one. I'm ready for another holiday that's for sure. As for the weekend, no fishing for me. I'm going on a river cruise on Saturday, and Sunday is full up by the way of a "Sunday drive". At least I'll get to see and be on the water, maybe I should take a rod and troll a lure behind the cruise boat. That probably wouldn't go down too well with the . G'day bloke, The back waters are your best bet if you want to go landbased or wading for flatties and whiting. The rock wall is also good for a stroll and a cast into the backwaters as well for bream and flatties. Jewies should be still around off the breakwall (so I'm told) so give that a go. You'll get a boat out through the entrance but only a decent sized one although I have gone out through there in a 5 metre boat. My cousin takes his medium sized cruiser out through there quite regularly with no hassles but your real best bet is Crowdy Head. Heaps of ramp/parking area and wash down area. Crowdy is always good off the stones and if you have a 4WD you can hit the beach for a fish at Crowdy and head north. Plan your beach trip before going so you don't get stuck with the high tide. I went on at Crowdy a couple of weeks ago and the beach was very flat and the high tide almost goes right up to the dunes. If you want a good pub meal drop in at the Coopernook hotel, Harrington hotel is good but Coopernook is better. (A very biased opinion by the way ) Anyways, there's heaps of options for ya in and around Harrington and if you want more up to date/realtime fishing info stop in at the tackle shop at Harrington (Ritchies Bait and Tackle) and ask for Craig. Tell him I sent you and you want all the info he's got on how and where to fish at Harrington, for a fee of course. cheers Hooky

G'day Mick, How's the red weed like on the beach at your place? Just spoke to dad and he says it's very thick out the front of his place so I'd imagine "up the beach" would be copping a bit as well.

Now I just have to make the time to fish on all the days that are shaded. Actually, I wouldn't mind fishing on the unshaded days as well as the shaded days, any day would do me just fine.

Unlucky day out there fella's and that seal is not a good thing. Should have headed over and got yourself a feed of whiting. Darn things were in plague proportions last time I was out and the good thing was that there wasn't a reddie in sight.

I've got 15lb TufLine on my low profile baitcaster and whilst Chris is right in saying it is very limp I do find it casts very well, I'm quite happy with it and never had any problems.

Good to see Lake Lyell getting a fresh stock of rainbows and browns. Good stuff I say.

Me, I've been fishin' for about 33 years.

I'm with Ken A on this one. The Ecogear SX 40's & 48's are just one step above all when it comes to fishing bibbed hard bodied lures in an estuary situation. They even kick butt in the fresh on trout. Not the cheapest of lures but definately pay their way when it comes to hooking up fish. I'm finding that I'm using hard bodies more than plastics lately and it certainly makes for a welcome change.

Thanks for your reply and explaination Bob. Nothing wrong with the article except like most newspaper articles it doesn't explain the real facts. I don't understand why anyone would want to "swap" a now prestine fishing area for what I reckon is a desert upstream from Bays Hill. I think it's fair to say that most voters are sceptical when it comes to political parties and how most of them end up representing the public. You only need to look at the current flock of galahs in Macquarie Street to see it first hand. As for who I vote for, well, that's why we have a secret ballot but I can assure you that I didn't vote for anyone aligned with the mob that's screwing the state of NSW at the moment. cheers Hooky
